I think this really depends on where you play. For us, the JV hockey is pretty competitive, almost every game, and the young players are playing against girls 1-3 year older. At the U14 level there may be 3-4 competitive teams, and then the drop off is pretty dramatic. As the poster said above, the ...

Our association is very active in recruiting non-parent coaches. The problem has been that while candidates are interested in coaching the higher-level boys teams, they are not interested in coaching the girls teams. It seems to be very hard to find non-parent coaches even for the U14 A team, which ...

Re: shortening Bench at 12A level
[quote="RealisticRonnie"]As far as your BS argument about "NO win HS team"...time will only tell on how this group of girls will do at the HS level. Well, yes only time will tell. I don't think the "no win" comment is BS when the fact is that Edina has never, ever won a...

Peter's right. My kids have competed against Edina at this level in the recent past and while the girls do get good coaching and have scheduled practices more often than probably any team in the state at their level, the coach consistently shortens the bench or gives the better players significantly...

Can't overlook the advantage Wayzata had having practiced and played their home games on the big sheet. They used the space really well. I'm not taking anything away from their performance--they were the better team in every way, especially Dingman, but I'm sure being familiar with the aspects of a ...

The core of this Tonka team also has what teams like Benilde, or Breck, or HM will never have--an intangible that comes from playing and going to school together, representing your community, and being battle tested year after year. There is a predictability that comes with knowing your teammate so ...

From what I've seen the norm is 2 lines as well, 3 if you're lucky. On the girls side, it's the rare school that could put 4 lines on the bench night after night primarily because of the logistics of the 4-period rule. Most teams don't cut girls, and there are many schools that need varsity players ...

Dynamo- You are right. I had no idea how this process works, and I appreciate your candor. The consensus above from you and those who have been involved in this for years is that the Team Reebok and Ice Cats coaches in essence pre-qualify players for consideration for the national team by asking the...

Perhaps, but out of the 11 girls from Team Reebok who tried out, 9 made the national team and 1 is an alternate. One of the alternates NOT from Team Reebok was one of the 3 top point getters in the tournament and was in the top 2 in scoring for Blake varsity this past season. She was selected as an ...

Note to all prospective candidates for the REEBOK High Potential Programs in the future: You'd better find a way to get onto a TEAM REEBOK AAA hockey team to have the best chance of making the selects team. Not surprisingly, 9 of the 14 skaters selected for the 15s National Camp play summer hockey f...

More money is a good thing. I was just commenting on the lack of any mention of the new owners' interest in player development. These kids are not professionals, and this is not the NHL. These kids have a limited time in this league to make an impact. If all the new owners are interested in is profi...

It will be interesting to see. With the appointment of Garrity as CEO, and the way the Stampede website announcement focuses almost exclusively on his revenue-generating accomplishments for NHL teams as his greatest qualification, it should concern any player thinking of playing with the Stampede. h...

I'm going to throw this out there to see what others think: Ramsey certainly has the pedigree, and was likely given a pass just based on that. However, do you think the evaluators also looked at size? I ask because we certainly saw this on the girls side where selections were made that simply defied...

ticktack- The comments are the same every year at this time, and you'd think that people would wise up. The reality is that for every few that realize what is really going on, and bow out, there are 10 who believe everyone starts with a clean slate and actually have a chance. We've aged out of the S...
