3A is pretty low key with no Trout and Luverne losing a couple games. Tough to keep top southern MN talent at home the whole hs career. Hilary, is it tough? What's the name of the last "top southern MN talent" player that left a So Minn high school early? I can think of Schaeffer from Marshall who ...

We followed Toby S in the NAHL this year for Coulee Region; good player, but it's tough to hang these days at that level. He was released by Coulee the first week in Nov, and since then has been playing for Lacrosse in the NA3HL, where he's doing well. As for Smedsrud, I still say he is one of the ...

Wyatt Aamodt lives by a simple principle . If you come in his zone with the puck, you are going to pay for it. If the puck comes in first and you try to beat him to it, you are going to pay for it. If you stand in the low slot trying for a deflection, you're going to pay for it. All in all, you are...

I saw the Team SE v Team NW elite league game on Friday, and Chase Ellingson from Breck stole the show with a natural hat trick to turn a 4-2 Team SE lead into a 5-4 Team NW win. Btw, the arena was just packed for the game; I've never seen so many scouts all in one rink. The five day combination of ...

The elite league will already be at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, from Sep 25-27; elite league teams play a regular weekend set of games as part of the overall event. The games are played at the same time as the NAHL has all 22 teams coming in from all over the country to play four games each. The el...

At least for the Magicians, my understanding is that they are a "before" team only and that most if not all of their players will be trying out for their HS teams in November. That's basically right, LSA. They have an "affiliate agreement" with MN Hockey allowing them to play a Tier 1 schedule in t...

This was published in Let's Play Hockey, explaining the Elite League selection process. Sounds familiar, but hopefully worth posting anyway:

"The 2015 elite league season selection process involved a nominating phase, begun in November 2014, which led to a beginning list of about 320 players." - How does a player get nominated? Who generally does the nominating? Head boys hockey coaches at the MN high schools get a request for nominatio...

These rosters are exactly why this league is becoming a joke. No I don't have a son that tried out or even in high school. Way to many average underclassmen. The league has lost its focus on trying to keep seniors from leaving early. If I am a high end senior like Boesser or Swaney this year why wo...

Congrats to Simonson. Nice showing for both him and the Magicians.

Btw, not to disagree, but this year I think NAHL players gathered roughly 230 NCAA commitments, with about 125 of those accepting full or partial scholarships to D1 schools - an all time record total for the NA on both counts.

There is some NAHL presence there, but the NA3HL is much more active at this combine. But NA opportunities do start there sometimes. As an example, last year Max Mettler (a '95 defenseman from Mankato West) was contacted by the coaches from Minot in the NAHL after he attended the R4 combine. He even...

Karl, great points.

Btw, I didn't mean I thought Tyler Cisar putting up 11 points in 52 games as a 17 year old in the NAHL was a bad showing. On the contrary, I think most Minnesota 17 year olds (even some from Duluth East) would be glad to have that as a first year in juniors.

Tyler Cisar (a '95) from Moose Lake had 177 pts in three years for Moose Lake Area, then played a year for Aberdeen in the NAHL in 2012-2013, where he had 11 pts in 52 games. Josh Cisar was the other brother at Moose Lake with over 100 career pts, but I don't think he played after high school.

Congrats to New Ulm. Luverne posters, sorry about the karma, but really - insulting the coach of a team in your section like you have been mocking the NU coach all year? Calling him "Lord", or saying "Eagle fry in the parking lot"? Not too bright. I'm guessing those comments fired up the NU team eve...

If Albert Lea is really 6 goals better than LaCrescent like they were in the play-in game Tuesday night, they are playing some solid hockey. Hope the Scarlets come ready to play tonight.

I'll pick West, NP, Faribo, and Northfield.

Thx guys - all good points. I'd just add that HF (which opted up voluntarily to class AA despite about one fifth the enrollment of EP and Wayzata, btw) would love to prove it on the ice: at home on Thursday, which they earned IMHO, not on the road where BSM gets to match lines. This is why I think i...

So Tonka looses to Moorhead, STA (x2) one game was 9-3, Wayzata, PL and Hopkins. These are all teams that HF beat this year. Plus HF beat them head to head. Since January 22 they are 1-6-1. They also lost to 7th seed AC. So naturally Tonka gets a 2 seed and HF a 5 seed. I totally agree; this year's...

I'll be cheering for West, but have to go with New Prague based on last year, coaching, and the possibility of a hot goalie Have you been able to watch them play at all lately? I know you generally have had good insight on West, and they've won a ton of games since the new year. Just wondering what...
