Re: Games Wednesday 2-23-22

#9 Irondale 3-2 over #8 Osseo in 5AA. Not really an upset by QRF rankings, but shots were about 35-15 in favor of Osseo. Irondale goalie stood on his head.

Re: Suburban east conference

Is Rodefeld still coaching the Irondale girls? My daughter played for him and I really liked him. The trick would be for Irondale and Mounds View to combine the youth system. The youth system has been combined for about 8 years. They go by Mounds View Irondale. Rodefeld coached this year's Irondale...

Re: Suburban east conference

Irondale and Mounds View should have joined forces a long time ago, but certain personalities did not let that happen. Will be an interesting conference. They'll be joining forces on the girls side starting next season. Could it be a preview of things to come on the boys side? Maybe, but apparently...

Re: Suburban east conference

Looks like Irondale is leaving the SEC next season for the newly formed Tri-Metro Conference (St. Paul Highland Park, Minneapolis, Holy Angels, Bloomington Kennedy). Hopkins will join the year after. It's a bit sad to note that all of these teams had played in the State Tournament at some point (oth...

Re: Penalty shot

I watched a game this year where a kid was hooked on a breakaway (ref's arm goes up) but the player managed to get the shot off anyway. Instead of calling 2 minutes for hooking, they called for a penalty shot. If the ref had planned on calling 2 minutes for hooking, and if the post-infraction delaye...

Re: If Minnesota Had an Olympic Team

Pionk's gotta be on it. Good call. The list I was working off of didn’t list him because he was born in Nebraska. Definitely a Minnesotan. Definitely on the team. Anderson, Holl, Braun, Perunovich, Miller all considered but defense is just too deep. Tyler Pitlick just off the bubble. Mittelstadt co...

Re: Early Departures 2021-22

Have a hard time seeing Bump come back, 2nd leading scorer in Omaha in his draft year. Hearing rumblings that multiple PL players may remain in Jr, can anyone verify? Sam Rice was with St. Cloud in the NAHL, Justin Kingery was with Fairbanks AAA, and Will Schumacher was with the MN Magicians of the...

Re: A Third Class

I know people don't like recruiting and open enrollment but it could also work in the other direction. Every time a player is recruited and open enrolls into one of the "power programs" it displaces a local player that is a pretty decent hockey player. There is a whole lot of meat left on the bone ...

Re: Mask recommendations for high school hockey

I’m hearing what happens is a kid is already worn down, and then looks up and down and sideways and tries to get his peripheral vision oriented to look around the mask insert, then gets dizzy and pukes. Maybe will get better with time I had one private Twitter reply that said the best alternative i...

Re: Mask recommendations for high school hockey

My kid also shared reports of kids puking, so that seems like it's probably legit. I'm sure some of it can be chalked up to skating hard after a long break, but who knows how much of it is that versus masks. He said all the mask options were bad, particularly because they get sopping wet. He's curre...

I'm really confused where anybody is talking about profits here. It looks to me like a very sick family that could use some help. That comment isn't about the Halversons AT ALL. I wish they didn't have to fundraise to cover expenses like health care. They shouldn't have to. I'm not going any furthe...

Re: MSHSL moves football to spring

If you want to have a season, don't argue like the guy above me. "It's just the flu!" is not going to convince the MSHSL of anything. Recognize the potential danger, be willing to accept whatever restrictions the MSHSL recommends, and suck it up. Announcing in advance that you're going to go on with...

Re: MSHSL moves football to spring

I'd like to see HS hockey this year postponed or not and with whatever restrictions the MSHSL and individual conferences require. I'll happily watch the online stream if that's my only option. A big difference between hockey and other sports are facilities. Rinks don't make money. Operating at near ...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

Amazed that this is even a debate. Everybody keeps busting out cherry picked studies to prove DEFINITIVELY this or DEFINITIVELY that. It's pretty simple really. This thing spreads because one person can give it to more than one person. • Social distancing reduces that ratio • Hand washing reduces th...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

N95 masks, ONLY WHEN RIGOROUSLY FITTED AND TESTED, stop approximately 95% of particles down to 0.300 microns. Anything smaller than 0.300 microns sails through an N95 mask, EVEN if it is rigorously custom-fitted. This is wrong. They stop 95% of 0.3 micron particles. They stop a higher percent large...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

I think a case could be made to continue activities as usual even if kids aren’t in the classroom. Think about it: No matter how you try to mitigate the spread in schools, the kids are still in the same building breathing the same air and touching the same doorknobs. If there’s an outbreak in a scho...
