Re: State of Hockey's Team

Would you rather play for SCSU, UMD, UND and play way more close to home, or play for the gophers and be a long ways away a lot? I still think that might have some influence on some kids and their parents.

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Honestly I think it is dumb that you have to play multiple years of juniors to play D3 hockey. NCAA D3 should make a freshman age limit of 19. You've just taken away the incentive for a kid not Div. I committed upon completion of HS to even try to get there. I fail to see what is so evil about a ki...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

From what I hear, UW-River Falls pretty much cut all there Tier III Junior players this spring. Apparently Tier III Juniors isn't enough anymore either even for DIII hockey.

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

Lastly, the Tartan situation is somewhat disconcerting in that they are a team with only two seasons below .500 since their back-to-back state appearances in 2004 and 2005. They had 18 wins in 2016-17 and 17 the next season, making the 4AA semifinals both years. That is not a team struggling to com...

Enrollment is irrelevant. It seems if you want to opt down you can. Do they ever refuse an opt down?

Any news??
According to the agenda on MSHSL website, the executive council meets at 5:00 PM today (Wednesday) to discuss competitive section appeals, and then tomorrow, April 4, it goes in front of the whole board with that meeting starting at 9:30 AM.
Thanks!

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

That’s certainly another way to skin the cat (no offense to any cat lovers, ha ha) and so crazy it just might work. I’m not ambitious enough to determine what the new cutoff line would be, but it would likely push Northfield, Mahtomedi, Sartell, and Alexandria up to AA, among others. As with any su...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Stang..... I wonder what would happen if we changed the A tournament to the smallest 64 schools in stead of AA to the biggest 64 schools. Hill Murray and Roseau would clearly be among the smallest 64 but they could opt up anyway. Given the F/R lunch exemption we already give Minneapolis, my hunch i...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

The Single A Quarterfinals could be made much better with very little imagination in the section reassignment process. It might water down the section final games though in some sections.

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Here's a potential solution. Take the top two teams from each section for the AA tournament, start it on Tuesday. Leave the A tournament the same. This would get more new teams into the AA tournament. It might also lure some of the bigger A schools into AA. I could see an Alexandria, EGF, Hermantow...

The one class tournament would suck and it would have the same 8 teams every year. It would improve nothing.
But your just a Mite-dad what do you know. :P

Re: Class A 2019-2020

6A 1. Cathedral - return a lot, and barring injuries or defections it is their section 2. Alex - graduates a great senior class, but will still be #2 3. Sartell - losing a lot of good seniors too. 4. Little Falls - Had some strong younger players who should only get better 5. River Lakes - will cha...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Hermantown, East Grand Forks, St. Cloud Cathedral, Alexandria. Move these teams up to AA. Then make a few moves to the sections in the metro and it’ll help. Also not sure why teams (like Mounds View, Hopkins, St Louis Park, Anoka, Burnsville, Jefferson, etc...) don’t recruit like Edina, Tonka or EP...

Re: East Grand Forks vs St. Cloud Cathedral

EGF will have to play very physical and take advantage of their scoring opportunities in this one. If SCC has a weakness it might be a goalie that hasn't been challenged very much during the year. Not saying he isn't good, but when your team is in the offensive zone most of the time most games you m...

Agree with the New Ulm goalie. He was amazing and obviously a kid who can steal a game for you. I was sitting right behind him and you could see his intensity and compete level were high.

Re: AA QF: #5 Duluth East vs. #4 St. Thomas Academy

In Duluth East I saw a team that was fast, physical and sharp but couldn't score. From reading past DE threads, it seems this was an issue during the regular season as well.

Who are some of the less hyped players that are impressing at the tournament this year? I was impressed with the #14 defenseman for Minnesota River.

Unreal! How many Brodzinskis are out there? And are they all D1 players? Are they all brothers? Is this unprecedented that so many brothers are D1 players? I suppose you have the Brotens.
