It sounds like the better team won this contest, and the officials did a decent job of calling the game. As for all the opinions on how, when and which penalties should be called, I'm wondering if any of those opinions are educated from real life experience? There's a variety of threads based on wha...

It's unfortunate that outstanding play by the kids in this, and other tournaments are quite often overshadowed by uneducated and bitter adults.

Congrats to all the teams that made it to the X, and got an opportunity to play some great hockey.

Does anyone know that percentage statics used in a forum are incorrect 87.4% of the time.... The question that has been asked, and answered, is where would the girls like to play? We parents can watch and enjoy a hockey game anywhere. Outside of a few players that return over and over again to the s...

I find a few things in this thread interesting.. 1. From what I've read, this is a thread about shortening a bench during a game, that didn't actually have a shortened bench. 2. Has anyone seen much women's college hockey? I've not witnessed a team play less than 3 lines, and many times there are ad...

Up 7-2 in a playoff game and Tonka still can't put their 3rd or 4th line out for some experience? They must have zero confidence in those girls! Clueless..played everyone. Check the box score, it was a Jv kid not even a 3rd liner in the penalty box, in addition our 3rd line left wing had goals in t...

"MOST" times this is a parental issue, and not a player point of contention.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but each situation requires a different look and decision making process.

Is there a high school team, hockey or not, that would treat a game like the one referenced here, different than Coach Johnson did? Are the players on this team complaining, or giving negative feedback? From my experience, most of the teams "players" I've been involved with enjoy winning quite a lot...

Winter, step back and take a breath. This is one of those situations where we will have to agree to disagree.

There's not enough space to discuss the differences in hockey philosophy.

Happy, as you can see "realistic" is different things to different people. Just as penalty calling is different to different officials and different times of the game... It's interesting to me the number of people that find officiating consistency issues, at a level of play many or all have never be...

Smart coaches and players will adjust their play to the game calling. Smart officials adjust their game calling to the way it's being played. Ever since I can remember, the state tournament has been called differently than regular season. If players and coaches don't like that, maybe it's time for t...

No one said penalties have to even out. Wow! I did say in this game they did even out. But I thought that that was a fair statement since 4 consecutive penalties in the first period on EGF before one Hermantown penalty. I should have said something else. Again this is not an attack on officials. I ...

Unlike teams that win their way into the tourney, officials are rated all season long by the coaches, their own associations and the MSHSL upper echelon. Once at the tourney, the pairing of officials will combine members of different officiating associations together. Some may have not worked togeth...

Curious if the same policies on goal judges are in-place for boys and girls hockey ? With tightening budgets and most sports being a negative on cash flow ... adding costs is not feasible in today's HS sports budgets. The actually cost paid by each athlete will continue to increase as school boards...

There are times when goal judges aren't available for some games. It's a hired position, and you need two per game.

Their only task is to turn on the light when the puck goes completely over the goal line. Nothing else.

A few observations. 1 - It's difficult for the official down low to see anything other than if the puck crosses the goal line in relation to the clock since he's looking directly at the goal line. With crowd noise, it can be difficult for anyone to hear the buzzer. 2 - The linesman and outside offic...

Apologies for the passing cheap shot post. Didn't realize that observation would be taken offense too.

Stanley, although I wasn't specific my reply wasn't pointed in your direction.

Fast food - no

Female - no

Had to leave for a game tonite.

What if we took the face masks off and even wore less padding? Athletes wear a ton of protection nowadays and there are more injuries than ever. Taking checking out of Pee Wees doesn't help the situation either, unless you're going to get rid of checking at all levels. Kids learning to deliver and ...

Letting the crowd know what's happening with penalties. The one's that care enough usually already have an idea what's being called, even if they don't agree. Most of what I've seen over the years from a spectator standpoint would have little value, be hard to understand over most arena PA systems,...

The new rule is referenced as "targeting" a defenseless player. As with all calls, they are up the officials discretion. That, along with the embelishment rule are a couple of changes that all coaches, players and officials have been made aware of prior to the season starting. Minor changes to check...

It sounds like the most correct outcome was the end result after the on ice officials reviewed a television broadcast video of the game.

Appears as the referee's calls checked and reinforced for accuracy, which should be a good thing?
