Incredibly Sad News - Brano died today
Brano Stankovsky died today. He was a long time coach at Blake High School and a great guy. I didn't know him personally but my daughter often talked about how much she admired him when he coached her at the freshman camp. He made a lasting impression on her with his positive attitude and encouragem...

1. It can open doors, there are girls who have a chance to choose between some of the best schools in the country who with out hockey would not be accepted to those schools. How many ladies actually go to Cornell, Darmouth, Princeton, Harvard, Yale and Brown ? Not sure these schools have the same s...

Can we just agree that no matter what the list is, or who posts it, there will be disappointment with the content..... Congrats to the girls making this one. I totally agree. There's never a consensus on these awards. IMO its a beauty contest in which different organizations use varied criteria. He...

As long as the system allows it to happen, it will. As soon as the process loop holes are closed, it won't. A bit of a simplistic view, but it's reality. There will always be loopholes. The truly motivated will find a way to exploit them. We can all name a number of examples of this. I'm not a fan ...

Still waiting for an answer about how you maximize the benefit of having a standout player. So far only stupid answers. In years past, I frequently put together AAA teams to compete in summer tournaments. I knew that I would have a team capable of winning the tournament whenever I was lucky enough ...

Would moving back to Ridder generate another lawsuit? I have a feeling it might. Does anyone think that previous lawsuit had anything to do with the move? I tend to think it did influence the MSHSL some. It could generate a lawsuit but like the previous lawsuit my opinion is that I doubt that the p...

Re: The X wins-- at least for a couple former HS players
For what its worth: Having read this thread I surveyed both my daughters who played a few HS games at Ridder and also in a couple state championships at the X a few years back (they also continued to play in college) and they both indicated that they strongly preferred the X This same question come...

The U19 Championship game is between NAHA and Little Ceasars. I believe that's 3 years in a row that the Michigan team Little Ceasars is in the U19 Championship game. Last year the Ice Cats beat Little Ceasars and the year before that Little Ceasars beat the Ice Cats for the championship. This year...

Minnesota teams 4-1 in their first games, http://www.winter-hawks.org/page/show/199874-naha-labor-day-tournament Interestingly, it was likely the best of the Minnesota teams that lost their first game. A little pool misfortune. Correction MN teams were 3-1-1 in their first games. Starzz, Icecats U1...

Thoroughbreds is the same as boys going to the ushl or nahl. They are no longer a part of the minnesota state high school league. If you cant get the exposure with the thoroughbreds then you never should have left your own program. Players on the team from the following cities: Plymouth Princeton M...

What you'll also notice (hello, oblivious HS coaches) - the sophmore class is yes "good". Freshman "better" ..then the 97/98 "best". Yes, girls hockey has reached it's apex. So you juniors - watch your backs. That's not meant to be "mean spirited" but many haven't seen this wave of girls yet. Watch...

Re: Cost of State Tourney
If I want to watch hockey played at the highest skill level I'll watch the NHL. I like HS hockey because of the passion and intensity. Girls hockey may not quite be there with the skill level (yet), but there is no shortage of passion. If you can't see that I pity you. Great comment! I'm sure most ...

Just to offer a bit of perspective. Yes, girls hockey has come a long way, but it still has a long way to go. There were, what, 52 or 54 14U teams this year, compared to how many bantam teams, 300+? In most areas those with hockey knowledge would rather coach a peewee B team than a 12UA team. In ma...

I think if girls can play PeeWee's It can help teach them to play with there head up and can help them become better playmakers. I think Amanda Trunzo, Alex Nelson, Rachael Bona,& Casey Hirsch all played boys peewee A's Look at Hanna Brandt...Never played with the boys. Today, I think that in Minne...
