Re: Duluth Denfeld, Rock Ridge to opt up to Class AA, Hermantown to stay Class A
Policy that I just read in mshsl.org says there are three options for two classes : top 64 to AA, bottom 64 to A , or even split. So there is no black and white answer. Also teams can opt up or opt down, there are forms for both. This was general policy not specific to a sport. Maybe its time for T...

Re: EYE-POPPER GAMES
Rochester John Marshall 5 Rochester Mayo 3 WOW Goldy fill us in this seems shocking John Marshall is a decent 1AA team. There is a lot of emotions here as John Marshall may not exist as a stand alone program after this year. This may have been the last JM/Mayo game ever. This game in the 80’s drew ...

Re: Mr. Hockey & Brimsek finalists
Some year a school may hit the Daily Double by winning Mr hockey and the Brimsek awards. The hat trick would be to win both awards and the state championship. The Grand Slam would be winning both awards on the boys & girls side. 2014: Grand Rapids hit your daily double with Avery Peterson and some ...

Circling back to the Joey pierce question. Missed the last half of the 1st denfeld game and don’t think he played last night. Anyone hear anything? All I know is that he had a walking-boot and was using a crutch on the bench Thursday (2/25) night. Didnt see him skate any shifts tonite. Anyone know ...

Re: Games Saturday 2-27-21
Nice character win for Rapids today. Warroad appeared really good and fast in the first period on the video stream. But, it seemed like GR took a page from the 2016/17 team and decided to play once they were down by 2 goals in the second. I think there is a lot to like about this team. We'll see ho...

Re: Transfers 2020-21
ummmmm.... can we get a goalie transfer in Grand Rapids? Honestly not sure whoze in the pipeline to replace Clafton, but HTown shouldn't get all the elite talent wanting to relocate in the 218. With our bloated local government, I'm sure there's some sort of cushy job that we could come up with for ...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?
So would you say that the loss of football could cause a domino effect on other sports for the upcoming season? It’s hard to envision a school committing resources to non-revenue spring sports in that event. There may be some exceptions, like East or Rapids where hockey is a big revenue sport, but ...

Re: 7AA 2020-2021
Andover is going to rule 7AA again next winter with their depth. No team will have their quality depth top to bottom. It seems Duluth East will be all sophomores and a couple 8th graders with the talent. Rapids won’t be deep and no returning netminder. Elk has numbers and new rink next winter. 😳😳😳😳...

Re: Announcers for State
I'd say it's pretty easy to avoid talking about lynchings during a high school hockey broadcast. No kidding. I'm sure some of the old timers on this bored thought he was a quality broadcaster, but man did I cringe listening to Gopher FSN broadcasts in recent years with him calling games. Many times...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
Incorrect on several levels. St. Francis is now in 5A, and are the second largest true Class A school by enrollment. Also, East (1363 students) is well above the A/AA cutoff point and is not opting up. Northfield is the smallest AA school at 1252 students. 2019–20 MSHSL enrollments [/quote All I’m ...

3. We can introduce historic games in the first couple rounds played at some of the old great arenas around the state (imagine an Edina versus Minnetonka playoff game at say Warroad Arena) Clearly you haven't looked closely at the Edina schedule. Their varsity doesn't venture north of the Metro. Mu...

Grand Rapids is primed for one of its ugliest years in the past couple decades. Three stars have moved on to junior hockey. The head coach left. Last year's bantams weren't great. Last year's JV wasn't great. Rumor has it six players were recently caught drinking and have suspensions to serve. Coul...

1-0 Benilde after 1. Rapids got their first shot on goal with 3 seconds left in the period. Shots are 24-1. Don't see how Rapids will make it to 5 wins with their brutal schedule. I can see more than a couple of games going into running time. Did 4-5 guys really make the difference between state ch...

On the other hand, if you go by smaller kids forechecking in the offensive zone , I would have to rank Blake Mcgloughlin as one of the most effective for forecheckers despite his small size because of his tenacity if he is fresh and fired up. Blake learned everything about forechecking from #10 on ...

Thought for the day (and this isn't me complaining about seeding, I don't care). Would HM be seeded if Cloquet (3 seed) had come out of 7AA as opposed to Grand Rapids (4 seed)? It is curious that a team who was good enough for the 4 seed in their section was able to pull the 5 seed at state... Cons...

Not a bad suggestion, but it would be easier if teams that play against AA competition all throughout youth levels and the high school regular season would just decide to play against AA competition during the HS playoffs also. From the time a Hermantown kid puts skates on for the first time in the...

Guys, Maybe I can clarify the data in the graph a little bit. The data was from the 2014-2015 season (nation wide). I cut out all the non-Minnesota team in the list below, so that why you will see the ranking number jump as you go down the list. During that season, the Edina & Wayzata JGA teams wer...
