Re: Best PageStat Era Class AA Champions

2015 Lakeville North followed closely by 1999 Roseau. Obviously the 93 Jags if you include them. 2004 Centennial’s 3 shutouts will never be done again. Great team they just weren’t all that exciting to watch. 2001 Elks were dominant but nowhere near as good as the year before when they got upset in ...

Re: Turning Points

2004 class A semifinals. Breck vs. South St. Paul Private schools had begun taking over the class A tournament and a few other than Hill-Murray were starting to make noise in AA, fueling the dislike by the casual tourney go-er. Meanwhile the programs at the inner-city and first ring suburb schools t...

Re: Greatest Games That Never Were

If the one class tourney still existed-

2005 section 8 final between Warroad and Moorhead. They tied during the regular season and both went into state tournament ranked #1 in their class. They were far and away thought of as #1 & 2 overall throughout the regular season.

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

That Lakeville South team had the best player in the state in Justin Kloos, after being upset in the section finals the year before Kloos unexpectedly returned to South for his senior season. South was a good team all year and Kloos was not going to be denied a trip to state, they rolled through se...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

2007 was a really weird year for big upsets. 3 seed Hill lost to Rochester Century. I was driving and listening on the radio. When Century scores the game winner the announcers were just screaming at the top of their lungs. You couldn’t tell what they were saying. Then the announcer did his best Mi...

Re: All Time All Tournament Team

McDonagh Is definitely the name that stuck out to me as well. Crowley seems to be a better fit. Agree as well. One because he was an unbelievable HS player and two he was the face of what is generally accepted as the best team of all time. If they wanted a career award, at least Housley played in 2...

Re: A Class All Tourney Team

If I remember right Jordan Schroeder from STA was an 8th grader and made the all-tourney team in 2005, the beginning of STA’s rise to power.

Anders Lee was also an 8th grader but I don’t think he made the all-tourney team.

Re: Greenway Raiders

Such a fun team to watch. Rooting hard for them today like everyone else. IMO, the class A tournament has saved the tournament this year along with a couple recent tournaments. Fun hockey to watch once you get to Friday along with great story lines. I would agree, especially this year. Folks talk a...

Re: Greenway vs Mahtomedi

How was this crowd so pro- Greenway? I'd guess that under most opponents, Mahtomedi are the darlings, finally cruising to their first title, as it would be. Sure they're Metro, but they are the prototypical small school the two class format was made for. Has Mahtomedi born the brunt of the crowd li...

Re: Class A QF: #5 Delano vs. #4 Greenway

Just an idea. . .focus on your D1 team, or satisfy your man crush and go coach Greenway. What purpose does it serve a D1 coach to go on a rambling dissertation about a below average HS hockey team? Hey Goldy, #1 it's his alma mater. #2 if you don't like A hockey, don't go the the boards to discuss ...

Re: Pioneer Press Top 75 MN H.S. Players of all time

Clearly a list based on career achievements and nothing to do with H.S. Hockey. Spehar should be in the top 5 and didn’t make the list. Were Erik Johnson’s Freshmen & Soph seasons at AHA really that memorable? How long was Stepan at Hastings? Or Leopold at Armstrong? Wheeler #10? As a HS player not ...

Re: Last 16 State Winners: Rank 'Em

The north suburbs were pretty dominant in the late 90's early 2000's. Much like how the west side is today. Anoka was runner-up to East in 98. They then gave way to the loaded Blaine teams (Hendricks, Bochenski, Frischmon, Foyt and company) in 1999-2000. While Elk River took 3rd in 99 (out of sectio...

Seem to be missing the leading American goal scorer in the NHL, Anders Lee from Edina/STA Nobody is missing him. Great player. The question was which HS program has the most current NHL'ers. Neither one of those programs could muster up another NHL player to get them on the list of 2+ current playe...

Re: New Edina coach

How can a team with so much talent not compete well against the best teams? Time for a coach that can motivate and smile on occasion? Not sure how long he's been at Edina (early 2000's?) but since 2008 he's had the Hornets playing on semifinal Friday 7 times. At that point anybody can beat anybody....

Assuming the state seed will happen the way we wall think it will happen... Edina Minnetonka STA Duluth East in some order.... Will anyone not make it to Friday night? Just 5 years ago STMA lost 15-0 in the section 7AA quarterfinals to Duluth East. It's amazing how quickly this program has become so competitive. I can't think of any other program that burst onto the scene in such a short period of time. Centennial in the early 2000's maybe? Congrats to the Knights.

I was really pulling for Greenway. It's always good to see the old school powers back in the mix. With schools like Mahtomedi, Alexandria, and Monticello flirting with the A/AA enrollment cutoff, is there any chance a domino effect throughout 4A/5A/6A could force Hermantown back into 5A? Leaving sec...
