Penalty shots show evaluators very little in the overall evaluation process...they might serve as an intangible....but whether a player converts on a penalty shot or the goalie stops the shot should not play a huge role in the rankings....

I think the penalty shots were exciting for the fans, but not good for the goalies..I would guess if they got scored on, that was used against them in the evaluation process. Also I think the player who committed the penalty should have to go off the ice for at least two minutes. They need to be acc...

Agree that Guider, Carroll and Stauber are good choices for skill development...I have watched the Howard tapes, good concepts, but complicated style to teach young goalies...it's tough to pickup in a weekend and outside of Howard few coaches know how to teach his techniques during winter months..It...

Goalie tryouts

interested in hearing how different hockey associations evaluate their goalies during tryouts. Do they grade the goalies on skills or just how they play in scrimmages or some sort of combination of the two

Who does the grading...head coaches, tryout committee members, outside evaluators?

Yeah I agree some of the top Wayzata players move to the privates, but with all the numbers in the program there still should be enough talent around to field a quality high school team..Perhaps there is a coaching issue....

Wondering how, in a few short years things may have changed...in the beginning the elite league was designed to keep our top players from leaving early to play juniors and to provide our multi-sport athletes a chance to play both sports in the fall... Our association uses the Carroll Goalie School staff for our development program. They help with pre-season clinics, evaluate our goalies during the tryouts and provide a series of in-season clinics during the year. As a goalie parent, very pleased with the way they help our kids improve their skills

They should play at no higher than a B1 level.....allowing private schools to field peewee and bantams teams has nothing to do with creating additional opportunities. It's about not allowing private schools to field "AAA" or All-Star teams since MN Hockey is basically community-based progr...

Haven;t heard for sure...I know Minnehaha Academy had a BB team last year. It's a way for private schools to offer a hockey program to students in that age group. This way the can play with the kids they go to school with and not have to actually play in the community they live in.
