Re: 218 - Minnesota Wilderness U18 goes 4-0

Awesome. I saw them, as well as Voyageurs. Both beat my son's team in close games. Minnesota showed its model off to all. Elite League in full swing. Blades showcase. Blizzard showcase. NAPHL. Think how many kids it takes to fill all these teams and everyone did well. Best developmental model in the...

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

Several shots at Blue Army. How is their participation different from Norway in years past? I think I saw a Norway box score this year versus a Fall 18U team in the Minnesota Hockey league. More appropriate competition for them perhaps. Teams guest play in the league. I can see being against guest p...

How many Edina JGA teams have won championships? I don't know... just asking..
Here's an article on Edina's Junior Gold team and head coach, with a few quotes from his longtime co-coach.

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

Karl, I think you've got it. When you take everything into consideration these guys are doing a great job. Ken Pauly too, and a few others.

I'll be the first one to say it. Edina will do better than they are expected to this season because of Curt Giles.

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

Giles is arguably the best high school coach today. Thanks, Mark. It's obvious he's had a lot to work with at Edina, but it hasn't made sense to me that Saterdalen & Ikola were revered and this guy seldom gets mentioned. Several comments above recognize that he's doing something right. 2019-20 will...

So much fawning about Mike Randolph.
Mike Randolph has done pretty well against them hem over the years....
The fawning continues.

When the planets align Mike Randolph can lead Duluth East to an upset to beat Edina.

When things break his way Curt Giles beats everybody.

Part of the problem is most high school hockey fans despise Edina.

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

You don’t think he does? I wouldn’t know cause I’m way up here in Cloquet/Esko I've never heard him cited as a reason why Edina will be real good, like Randolph. I've never heard that Edina, "led by Curt Giles with his" whatever his trademark look is, is back at the state tournament, like Ikola. If...

Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

He has a great record as HC for Edina. Tom Saterdalen and Willard Ikola are considered legends. Like Giles, they led prominent programs to several state titles with great players. Giles should be viewed in the same light. Lee Smith as well. So much fawning about Mike Randolph. Why not Giles? He's cl...

Pinoniemi, Bryce Brodzinski, and Nate Warner all ditched SCSU to follow Bob Motzko to Minnesota.
Yes, which is why I linked you to Led Zeppelin's "What is (Bushy) and what should never be (Pinoniemi)" - I view the world through music lyrics so that was the first thing that came to my head.

What are your thoughts? I watch the below and cringe, not only because of some of the crappy examples they give (for both sides) but by how we are taking any of the onus off the player with the puck to play heads up hockey. You are onto a peeve of mine. I'll watch the video later. A kid will go nea...

Re: Moving to Minnesota for HS Hockey

Pee Wee Quebec is wonderful, no doubt. It's more than a hockey tournament because it is in large part a vacation. Consider that when comparing to others. A friend grew up in Quebec and now lives in South Florida. Schools are off that week in Quebec, so kids aren't sacrificing that. He was puzzled ho...

Flammang showing on Blizzard protected list. Now in St. Cloud this season.

Unclear on all the protected lists is whether or not the Minnesota HS kids playing Junior hockey are planning on before/after.

Re: Moving to Minnesota for HS Hockey

A few days and the tone of the comments is mildly against transfers, with several pointing out that the out-of-state aspect isn't as common - and may not be as bothersome - as movement within MSHSL schools. Trying to summarize multiple comments, so please nobody should feel like I'm saying exactly h...

Moving to Minnesota for HS Hockey

Some recent comments have me thinking. Is it GOOD or BAD that kids move in to play Minnesota HS hockey? Some examples: Rob Granato from one of the most prominent families in American hockey to play on a state championship team at Burnsville. TJ Oshie migrating from Seattle to Warroad to play where h...

Re: Early Departures 2019-2020

It's starting to feel more and more that HS hockey will continue to lose more and more talent to early departures that I had hoped for the past several seasons. While it's still hanging on to most - and I could be wrong - but it feels like there's been an acceleration of players leaving early altho...

I use Heisenberg because it shows when a player committed. Nevers was the first Motzko recruit, so draw a line there for the Lucia-Motzko breakdown.

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019

Isn't ranking the worst A & AA sections 1-8 the same as doing the best sections countdown? For AA (best to worst, read from the bottom up if you want the countdown) 1. VI - Benilde, Blake & Edina 2. II - Eden Prairie with some contenders 3. IV - Hill 4. V - how much has T-G closed the gap 5. III - R...
