Re: Private School Top 10 for 2018-19

Only Orono twice. They don’t have a choice since they are stuck in the Wright County Conference. Agree competition not great within conference but they are stuck there. I did hear they are looking to go independent as early as next season to avoid playing some of these games. School controls it but...

Have not heard of any yet but would not be shocked if Orono is looking for a new coach! Why would Orono want a new coach? They did win the Class A Championship. I believe he was being sarcastic. Orono has a long history of chewing up and spitting out hockey coaches... including some very good ones.

I chuckled when I saw this matchup. The Orono coach was on WCCO friday and they asked him about whether he would prefer to see seeding 1-8 instead of 1-5 and random draw. He threw a little shade at the MSHSL's random draw, saying something to the effect that he would guarantee the Spartans won't pla...

For a sport that rarely plays Monday games...why so many today, and so few tomorrow? Make-up games from weather-related postponements? I believe it has something to do with precinct caucuses in those communities. Correct... State law prohibits public schools from scheduling activities on precinct c...

If you transfer to a new high school, you will be eligible for varsity athletic competition if: this seems to imply the student is coming from a high school, where a middle school that goes through 9th grade seems to not fit the intent of the rule. My guess is the AD’s at both the middle school and...

MSHSL hasn't updated the section listing on website yet. There are a number of other changes that also haven't been listed in hockey and other sports. They typically won't update it until closer to the school year, or perhaps, maybe not until the winter sports season. The listing includes Annandale ...

They have allowed this in the past. Happened to our school when the combined enrollment put us in AA. They dropped the smaller school, but two seniors from the other school were allowed to finish their HS career with the old program. This was more than 10 years ago. The other school has since co-ope...

Does anyone know exactly how these teams are formed? And how does the MSHSL do the enrollment numbers for 2017-2018 right now? The 64th biggest school in the state from that list is Henry Sibley, who is in Class A. 63rd is Tech, who is in a AA co-op with Apollo. 62nd is St Louis Park, who is in AA....

MSHSL tightened up its credential policy this year. The Guillotine web site forum (that's wrestling, for those who don't know) had a few complaints last week about a couple of nontraditional media outlets that were not allowed press credentials this year, even though they have in the past.

On the Marshall comments: I believe opting up is a 4-year commitment, so they're stuck in AA for another two. There is some okay young talent there; I'm skeptical it'll be enough to do any serious damage with what CEC, DE, and ER have coming through their systems, but they'll at least be able to se...

I've been saying for years that I full expect St. Paul Johnson to co-op with Hill-Murray. It would be the best of both worlds. That would be a huge mistake for Johnson kids, Hill already has more kids try out than make the team, maybe 1 or 2 Johnson kids would make the varsity or junior varsity tea...

Those wishing/hoping for Blake to move up shouldn't get too excited. That opportunity is only on the years sections are re-aligned. Since that just happened they will be class A next year, and they would have the option to move up again in 17-18 season. The one thing that the MSHSL should consider ...

To clarify, I believe the answer to the original question is that the MSHSL has no policy on streaming section games. It allows each section to set its own policy and sell the rights, if it wants.

There was an imbalance.... close to 70 AA schools and 52 A schools, since the MSHSL policy was to include "The largest 64 schools, plus opt ups" in Class AA. Several schools appealed their placement, and the league felt the logical thing to do was to bring some of the smaller AA schools down to A. T...
