Good for Bob Slater. It’s nice to see someone with integrity.
What part of the process put integrity at risk?

I didn't realize Robb had a son committed to MSUM. Another lost legacy for the Gophers.

(No I'm not suggesting they should recruit all of them nor should they be entitled to them. Just an observation)

The model has not been ruined. Tarnished maybe, slightly different for sure, but far from ruined and even with that it's still the best system in the country.

Since the Big Ten was formed, they've only had two teams make it to the finals...Minnesota in 2014 and Notre Dame 2018..Both teams lost NCHC - 4 National Champions since the Big Ten was formed So right now it's pretty clear who's winning the race Money can buy a lot of things but apparently not col...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Programs such as Minn, Wisc and Mich have been near the top of college hockey for decades. Why would anyone logically expect their recent slide to continue much longer? Also with rise of PSU, ND and OSU on the national scene it looks to being a very competitive conference soon. 4 straight NC wins st...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

I don't think the Gophers ignore recruiting northern players (at least until the end of Lucia's tenure) so much as I think they've had plenty of competition with UND, UMD and SCSU among others. And even metro kids have so many options these days that despite the "built in" advantages the Gophers sup...

Re: Competitive Section Assignments

You could do sections like they are but runner-ups make state as well. -The 8 section winners are seeded 1- 8 even though some of these teams would be rated lower on PageStat than some runner-ups -This is the benefit for being a section champion -Fill in the remaining 8 with section losers seeing th...

Denver was the 4th youngest team in the country by DOB and finished 8th in PWR and 4th in KRACH. Quinnipiac 11th youngest, 7th and 8th. UMD 16th, 2nd and 2nd. Cornell 17th, 11th and 11th UMASS 18th, 4th and 4th. MSUM was the only team in the country in the Top 21 for oldest age (3rd overall) that fi...

You're saying 40-50 2003 birth year kids from Minnesota will eventually play D-1? Wow I had no idea the numbers were that high. Impressive Anyone know the current number of 2001's verbally committed ? 2000's ? I can't comment on any specific birth year, but per the NCAA Div I media kit for 2018-19 ...

Re: 2019 HP U17 or U16 Boys Rosters?

They don't typically have that many move ins. Last year was a bit of an anomaly with 2 (Motzko and I think Kittleson. One other that transferred from HF already lived in the district and previously played for Tonka youth teams), the 2018 team had only Brink I believe.

Edina will definitely take a dip on older talent next year Tonka Joe Brink still recovering from injury early last season , hopefully in good shape for next fall varsity Minnetonka will be fine, agreed. The 17s have like 6 or 7 kids on the team. Plus, end of the day, HP teams are a nice spring bara...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

Interest in the NCAA BB tournament falls off for a lot of people after the first two rounds have been played, and suffice it to say a significant portion of the interest is generated by office pools, online pools, neighborhood pools, etc. Pool generated interest will never happen for this tournament...

Re: AA school fielding an additional A team

No, it would be possible, but not "fair" (lack of a better term). Part of the reason there is AA and A is due to the number of kids a school has to pick from to put a team together. If you start allowing AA schools to field both AA and A teams, what is to say they don't stack their A team to make a...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

Slapshot, which sections are you most interested in preserving and why? All of them as far as format. I am not saying they can't be tweaked as far as placement, but reaching the state tournament should be an accomplishment. Upsets happen and that is part of the magic. To me a 2 class hockey tournam...

Re: New State Tournament Format (or my day dream)

No. Anything that gets rid of sections doesn't have my vote. The only way I would change the current system would be to combine the winners of each section (1AA - 8AA and 1A - 8A) into a 16 team tournament.

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

But my point in all this is that making a prediction that 4-6 teams will dominate and be in every state championship game is such an easy prediction because that has happened in every decade besides one. You're contradicting your own facts: The 2000's - 9 different champions The 2010's - 7 teams wo...

My crystal ball says this (and it's right 50% of the time...The other 50% of the time it's wrong) Over the next 3,5,10 years I think you will see the same 4-6 teams dominating the class AA tournament Yes we all know 8 teams get invited and yes a team like a Lakeville South or say Burnsville will oc...

Re: Pridictability of Class AA - state

Uh, the AA tournament is still revered as one of the premier HS events in the country so anyone saying otherwise is not paying attention. I too would prefer there be a one class (or even a 16 team tournament made up of 8A and 8AA teams) but it's never going back to the way it was.

Re: First report for next season

Sadly I think 2AA will be EP's to lose. They had a number of seniors but they return a lot of key guys. Tonka does typically reload and they have some nice players returning as well, but their Bantam AA team wasn't that great (as compared with EP') and while they were highly rated I don't think play...

Well the world looks different in hindsight, does it not? But first, the seeding conspiracy theory. For many seasons the conspiracy was that MSHSL secretly seeding the tourney 1 - 8. Remember that? I never got that one. There is no reason to conspire unless there is a benefit to conspirators. And t...
