Re: The Hermantown Thread
We could just start a new A.5 league and toss Hermantown, SCC and other privates/public success stories in there. I was thinking of this the other day and I don't necessarily feel that Hermantown is the problem. They are the symptom of the problem. The problem (in my opinion) is that summer (and now...

Re: Section 6A 2019-20
Well, it was hardly a "decisive" win by Alexandria, in fact it was difficult to decipher the better team here. Alex definitely benefited from some whistle happy officials early. Hearing that some key players for Alex were out of the lineup suggests perhaps the Cards are the slightly bette...

Re: Games Tuesday 11/26/19
St. Cloud cathedral should be ashamed what they did tonight. Destroy a team by 15 goals in 2 periods and the. Basically toy with them and play cat and mouse in the 3rd and only take 3 shots on goal...have some integrity and move to AA Wasn't at the game, but the box score showed 15 goals in the fir...

Re: Brainerd coming to town
Brainerd should still be very solid this year, as they were very deep last year. My expectations are another state tourney appearance. Not sure if they can go as deep as last year. I do think Alexandria will give them a good run in sections, as they are deeper than they have ever been.

Re: Section 6A 2019-20
Cathedral definitely the favorite. Alexandria lost a lot of talent and depth to graduation, but they should still be the #2 team in the section. I would go Little Falls and Sartell as 3 and 4. After that it is pretty slim pickings.

Re: Section 6A 2019-20
In other news, former Alexandria and current Aberdeen Wings D-man Jack Powell has verbally committed to Bemidji State. Good to see for the Cardinal program and, of course, I am happy to see him going to BSU! Yes, good news for Jack. He is a good kid. I wonder if Mark Parrish will bring hi...

Re: University of St Thomas
Attendance is a great topic as it pertains to St Thomas possibly going D-1 On one hand you have schools like ASU playing in front of 400 people and the U of MN playing in a arena half full. My guess is St Thomas would struggle to draw in the casual Metro area hockey fan. Just to much competition in...

Re: University of St Thomas
Side Note/Question: Any updates on U of Illinois going D1? I have a relative who has been pushing this for years if not decades. His kids played for the Chicago Mission AAA. His view is Title IX is preventing it, along with hockey isn’t very popular outside Chicago...... the hockey joke is you coul...

Re: High school programs #s in Elite league
Since we're yakking about the elite league, let's bring it back to high school... Certainly supports that Edina/Blake/Andover are at a different level. Breck seems to be ready to field another team capable of competing at AA (at every position except parents and administration, apparently). It is p...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?
You would think of the players that get cut from Edina. You could take those boys that were cut, put a team together, it would compete for an A championship every year, and be able to beat many AA squads. I think they would be pretty good, but this might be an overreach. Possibly ranked 8-12 or so ...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?
Let's not forget they cut 3/4 of the players that tryout for HS, law of averages and history shows he has more talent as a whole than most schools every year to choose from (except MG from #'s). He should be able to win more consistently. Not saying anything about him not being a good coach, but so...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019
Thanks for the info, zoomx. I still have a few years before I get neck deep, but the kiddos are getting older and the Alex programs have been fun to follow the last couple of years! And knowing the people involved, I am sure they have had contingency plans in place for when (if) that move to AA com...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020
Holy Hound-dog......!! In the last 10 seasons, Duluth East has a 29-1 record in the Section 7AA tournament, with 9 state appearances. Going to state 6 times in a row, narrowly losing to Rapids in 2016, the eventual State Champion. I don't care if they go 5 and 20 during the regular season, It will ...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019
I am not 100% sure either on the mindset either. I didn't realize they were that far from the AA enrollment cut off yet and all those schools above them. I don't think the enrollment is growing at such a pace that they would add 100 students in the next two years, but it is growing. And the youth n...

Re: Worst AA/A sections 1-8, 2019
Even though they are not 218 (about 10 miles from the line), is it possible we could see Alexandria ending up in AA in the next alignment cycle? Their girls program got bumped up in the most recent alignment cycle. :?: New Prague High School 1260 St. Louis Park High School 1255 Northfield High Scho...

Speaking of new rinks/complexes like the new one being built in Elk River....I sole to a Hermonite today and a 10million dollar rink is in the works being engineered on paper. I think until the new school is built, they are looking at a collaboration situation. Once the school is open, it will become a consolidation.

Re: The Hermantown Thread
What would be an interesting statistic is what percentage of a team’s roster is on free and reduced lunch. I know for Greenway’s full roster there is only one player (bench player) who might be on free/reduced lunch. This f/r lunch figure has a significant impact on the pool of kids that will/can g...

Re: Checking in bantams
I had my son use a wooden stick through squirts. I can tell you the cost savings is negligible. You can buy a cheap composite youth stick for under $50, easily, especially with sales, that will perform better than a wood stick. Lower grade composites are more durable than the more expensive composi...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season
Hmm... it now seems like every team that has some semblance of success is a target on this board. I remember Luverne taking shots. Hermantown, Warroad, EGF, Alexandria, Orono, Totino Grace, and so on and so on and so on. These are just the Class A schools. Let's be honest about something. It is not...

I agree with you almost 100%. I will add I think most sports are dying due to specialization. Football being different to the negative because of concussions. Track and Cross Country to the positive being different because everyone gets to compete. Trap shooting is growing exponentially. Hockey nee...

Re: Development is YOUR responsibility
No, the best athletes are playing basketball or wrestling. Continue to make hockey inaccessible to 80% of the population. Development is a minor issue. If the kid can’t afford to even play hockey after the 4th grade development does not matter. Income does not equal talent. MN hockey better wrap th...
