We should have done the same thing last year. If the U14 numbers aren't better this year there may not be enough girls to have B.Pens4 wrote:Eden Prairie will be fielding a 14UA1 and A2 team this season and one 14UB team.

The Blades have historically assembled a roster specifically for the Brick....and that roster doesn't always jive with their "regular" roster...this is nothing new. Why? I ask this seriously. What is the purpose of mix and match teams to play in a tournament? Does it help the players? Does it help ...

I will only comment in saying that none of you are aware of how many female candidates are actually applying for these jobs hence you are making the assumption that alot are being turned down. Nobody said anything about women candidates being turned down. I mentioned there were rumors circulating t...

And shame on you for judging someone before he has even began his position. Why? Because he didnt play women's hockey, play on a women's olympic team, etc. He might be the best available candidate, and he might not be. Give him the benefit of the doubt, because like you just said, coaches pretty mu...

EP Dad - This why parents have destroyed sports. You have already put it in your mind that he will fail. Therefore, anything he does that you dont agree with you will automatically be assured he is a BAD coach. Instead let the guy come in and show what he can do for three years. Then after three ye...

Never was a chance to get one of the mentioned girls. They would only accept applications from people that had been head coaches. Jamie will do well. Do you mean candidates were limited to only people with previous HS head coaching experience or would any head coaching gig do? If the latter you can...

New Cretin coaches: K. Wendell Pohl and J. Pohl. Skrypek will remain on staff. CDH families received a letter in the mail. Poor Jaime Grossman. It was rumored that a "Former women's Olympic hockey player" interviewed for the Eden Prairie job. Don't know if it was true, but some of the girls were ge...

I didn't realize hockey is only for kids who will go on to play in the NHL. No wonder the girls get no respect. Nobody answered my question about how many kids are rostered for three HPC hockey clubs. If you pull those kids from all round the state how much effect does it have on the numbers playing...

Re: The ADM Question
How many kids are rostered for three USA Hockey HPC clubs? Isn't that number so small that it wouldn't have any noticable effect on Minnesota Hockey?

Minnesota's hockey culture is much different from what you see in competitive youth soccer. Girls are separated out by age 9 and are never seen playing with boys past age 11. Minnesota has enough girls playing youth hockey. A cultural shift that saw travel coaches cut all girls that try out would e...

It reminds of the scene in Miracle where Mark Johnson (a MN NHL player who did have some scoring touch) who during practice scored on a beautiful end to end rush only to get ripped by Herb Brooks. MN Hockey player??? I guess Mark was technically born in MN but he moved to Madison, WI when he was ve...

As for MN NHL players not generally being scorers, I will say as an outsider, MN teams have what looks to be a highly egalitarian ethos that drives them. It doesn't look like high end teams necessarily encourage singular offensive talent so while you have very deep, disciplined, hard working teams,...

If a 12U girl is opting to play peewee hockey, I would hope someone is asking the parents "Why?" Then I hope they are discussing that answer at board meetings and developmental meetings. A company doesn't do an exit interview with an employee that just left to work for someone else, then shove the ...

Re: Checking still allowed in PeeWee's
If girls leave U12 because they(or their parents) believe there won't be any checking, they are sadly mistaken!!!! If girls or parents think there won't be checking in U12 they are sadly mistaken. Was just at a AAA tournament in Winnepeg. It was funny hearing Canadian parents complain about how the...

What did the girls director say when you asked, "Why?" Hopefully the response would be "None of your business". I'm not sure I understand. The girls director told OG85 that 3 girls would play with the boys next year, but when OG85 asked the girls director "Why" they were going to skate with the boy...

You were obviously not witness to what went on in winnipeg this weekend because it was obvious and blatant. Maybe wouldn't have been so bad if not for every time the whistle was blown, the kid didn't get up on his own and skate to the bench. According to USA Hockey rules the ref has the option to "...

One thing that was painfully obvious is that the so-called "Bernie Rule" should be enacted in more tournaments. Watched the Alberta Brick team play both the Blades and Machine at the 00 level and it was comical how every single time an Alberta kid got hit, he would lay there until the whistle was b...

I'm surprised Edina and Wayzata would do this. Two equal A teams is probably developmentally superior for skaters ranked 15-30 but it is arguably worse for skaters ranked 1-15. Some of the top skaters will view two A teams as "watered down" and will view the ever-expanding Minnesota Made programs a...

O-town, you haven't been giving legal advice to D6 and Hewitt, have you? MH dictates that all players are to have an equal opportunity to participate in competition regardless of sex, race, religion, etc. Not being eligible for the A team based on sex would violate the rule. Minnesota Hockey dictat...

I think parents will put their kids where they think they can get the best coaching AND the best competition. If a girl won't get hit until the 14's now, the very best girls WILL come to the boys program. Will they beat out the best boys? Probably not, but if your kid's on the bubble, you might hav...
