Minnesota's hockey jingoism

I recently heard that Hudson will not be participating in the U14B state tournament even though they will likely end up with the 3rd best record. I assume they are being left out of the Minnesota State tournament just because they happen to live on the other side of the river. I'm of the opinion tha...

It will be interesting to see if the benches hold out for a few of these top teams or if the top 10 skaters run out of steam by season's end. EP doesn't have much beyond 10. All skated pretty equally in the championship game against Edina. I watched Sibley valiantly fight off Wayzata for a while un...

On the B bracket's, I am pretty sure Highland does not exist?? I believe that is the Highland 14A team. They would have been a better fit in 14B and I am glad their coach and the tournament director came to the same conclusion. Plus the EP Red girls are looking forward to playing somebody different...

Sounds like Highland may have dropped out. My daughter was looking forward to playing them. Bummer. As far as this affecting 14B teams, I am sure the "special circumstances" clause could be invoked. If the mess that is 14B hockey this year isn't "special circumstances" I don't know what is. It's not...

I think it is great that LPH has Stillwater ranked 8th in the state for 14B. They don't have a team in 14B. They tried but could not get enough girls. I'm pretty sure that they mean the Hudson team. Maybe there is something very very wrong with including a Wisconsin team in the Minnesota rankings. ...

In EP the girl's coordinator was determined to move 12's up to play 14B. Many parents questioned his motivation to move the girl's to a level that has not fully developed. EP had the numbers to have 3 12u teams of 12-13 skaters. Instead they have 2 12u teams that are not competitve and moved girls ...

Re: 14uB and 14uA teams in mn

Wayzata instead of Crow River. The Warrior rankings lists Hudson as Stillwater. They may still be referring to Mora as Duluth, but that is difficult to determine as Mora is not in the top 10.

You are right EPDad U14 is a mess and the top 14B teams are listed on the D6 web-site. In fact all the 14B teams are listed. There are no other teams. Yup. That's an iron clad guarantee if I ever saw one. After teams formed I started looking around all the associations to see who the competition wo...

U14 is a mess. It is my opinion that the top two or three 14B teams in district 6 (Which I guarantee has all the top teams in the state) are better than the bottom three to four 14A teams in d6 (which has some of the best teams in the state). Eden Prairie would have been better off doing like Edina ...

Why wouldn't Centennial have 15 skaters like any of the big programs do? With all those kids up there? Don't they have 2 B teams? I would short those squads and help them develop. I've noticed several teams don't have 15 skaters. Too many kids for two teams, but not quite enough for three is gettin...

Slim pickins at U14B. Nobody better schedule a 16 team tournament. Is it always this bad? Poor Mora and Rochester having to drive so far all the time.

Developing Hockey IQ

My daughter worked hard over the summer. She ran, worked out, played soccer and AAA hockey. She is more physically fit and stronger than ever before, and has made very noticable improvements in her skating and stick handling. After all that she was very disappointed to not make the A team yet again ...

New coach for Edina this year at 12A and I bet they roll their lines. Based on last night's scrimmage, where they had FIVE lines, their top 3 lines looked pretty even. Some kids who'll skate past you, some who'll skate around you, and some who'll skate through you. They'll be young, maybe a little ...

Tough to fight the Edina numbers. If your best athletes play hockey instead of basketball, etc. they'll always be strong. It helps to avoid having the weaker 3rd line that most other teams must contend with. Makes you wonder why the Edina boys coach plays with such a short bench. Even though I like...

Good U14A programs practice just about every day, sometimes even on game days, including Sat. & Sun.; they probably play twice as many games as JV, and are skating a month longer--the JV and V players go around searching for ice time in March to no avail. And I don't know what 14A programs you've w...

Re: 12A Landscape 2010-11

Who coaches U12 may be more important than who is playing. It would be nice if each team had a first year and second year coach to help smooth the transition and pass on accumulated knowledge.

So is your goal to force players to try out for the youth program before they can try out for the HS program to take away the HS option? Interesting interpretation of the previous post. I don't hear a hidden agenda in the question. What do other associations do to manage Varsity, JV, and U14? U12 t...

Hipcheck, you're a little confused about the role of a youth hockey association. A youth hockey association is in the business of developing hockey players. Period. Gee, I thought their business was to provide opportunities for youth to play hockey. Playing sports is important. Being good at sports...

u14agoalie, sounds to me like you are making excuses. I would question if your weaker skaters with fresh legs could make any difference compared to your starters who are tired. Are you saying that your team made it to state without shortening the bench? And if not, are you then saying that you coul...
