Here are the latest 7A rankings. Overall record and 7A record are given for each team. 1. Hermantown- 2-1-1 (0-0) The Hawks continued with their AA-only schedule thus far, beating Duluth Marshall 3-1 and Hopkins 9-0. Their first game of the week is against another top AA team (Minnetonka) before fin...

I think the biggest question is: Does Htown want to keep breezing to the A title game every year or do they want to compete in the AA playoffs against teams with levels of talent similar to theirs? I think Cloquet is still a year away from making serious noise in 7AA, due to the bulk of their talent...

With two weeks’ worth of games in the books, here are my latest 7A rankings. Overall record and 7A record are given for each team. 1. Hermantown- 0-1-1 (0-0) No reason to drop the Hawks despite their record, as they played two top 15 AA teams in Wayzata and Lakeville South. They face two more AA foe...

If Hermantown does indeed opt up this year, then I agree with your prediction, although Greenway will also be very good.

I agree with Karl that GR's main issue will be offensive depth, as they lost a ton of forwards to graduation. However, I am much more bullish on their defense. I think Heitkamp takes a big step this year as a junior, giving them two top flight defensemen, and I think Huson and Anderson are quality p...

I think it's fantastic that they are streaming games this year, so I don't want to complain, buuuuuuuut.....Hermantown vs Denfeld will be a ...

Section 7A (2016-2017)

Here’s my preseason thoughts on 7A. I would appreciate it if other 7A fans could correct my mistakes and help fill in important things I have missed. (I’m looking at you Greenie, PuckRanger, pekyman, and Jeffy95) :) Unfortunately, YHH doesn’t have last year’s bantam rankings/results available on the...

For 7A, my guess is: 1. Hermantown 2. Greenway 3. Hibbing 4. Virginia 5. Denfeld 6. North Shore 7. Eveleth-Gilbert 8. Proctor 9. I-Falls 10. Ely I think Greenway has the talent to be a top 5 A team, if they are able to get solid goaltending. They shouldn't lose to anyone other than Hermantown in 7A,...

To help me understand this, can you tell me which players on last year's varsity team open enrolled at Hermantown, where they are from and when they changed to Htown school district. Thanks. The article does state there is now a waiting list for most grades. People want their kids in this district primarily for the schools. Of the 20% that have successfully open enrolled I would bet few are even hockey players. Like I said, my sophomore has not seen any changes in who he has played wit...

I think you forgot about Parker Hawk, Dylan Samberg, Logan Judnick and Eric Gotz. They did not play Mites at Hermantown. The climate has changed a lot since my kids played even. Minor point, but "Hermantown is up in AA beating Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, and Duluth East.", it's really more like Hermantown is up in AA beating Wayzata, Roseville, Hopkins, Grand Rapids, WBL, Brainard and Bemidji - looking at the past recent history of their schedule. I don't so much mind...

Bring back one class tournament, sweet sixteen format and let's do this right. 8) Not a bad suggestion, but it would be easier if teams that play against AA competition all throughout youth levels and the high school regular season would just decide to play against AA competition during the HS play...

Re: Class A hockey

Making the early prediction- Virginia blue devils, will be in the tournament in 2018-2019 seasons! Go blue! You must be assuming that Hermantown moves up to AA starting in 17-18. I'd love to see an Iron Range team win 7A, but until the Hawks go to AA I don't think anyone has a realistic shot. I wat...

Hibbing? How long has the coach from last year been there? They've got some serious talent on the ice too.
He'd been the coach for three seasons. No idea what happened.

How about single A? Hermantown will be awesome again, unless there are some serious defections to juniors. They do lose 3 of their top 4 D and their goalie, but they return 5 of their top 6 forwards, the goalie will be a talented senior, there are some bantam stars that will be contributors next se...
