What you fail to see is that associations at the A level also cater to the individual: The Average Player. Most A teams have maybe a few, give or take, top end players, a handfull of average players and some low end players. Practices are held back by the lower end players and do not challenge the h...

I'd say yes. If it not being determined by hockey, including the player's ability, committment, discipline, then it is Politics . See that is where my issue is with calling it politics...a BA, PWA or SQA is not necessarily in control of those items among others. They are not getting themselves to p...

By intentionally listening to and giving the direct or indirect nod to giving preference to the board members kid, friends kid, drinking buddy's kid, fellow coaches kids they are intentionally conspiring against all of the deserving kids that should be considered or outright choices against those ki...

Re: MM rink #3

WOW --- hockey in a cold sport. Mark Messier, Gretzy, Orr and etc....all played POND hockey back in the day, no matter what the temp was outside. I think it's great for MM to have this opporunity. Kids will have a blast. I am guessing if its too cold then they will cancel practice, the associations...

You point to Team WI as a reason why droves of kids are coming back to high school away from Tier 1 Midget. I offered the suggestion of having district all star teams pre and post the association/HS season as an alternative to Tier 1 hockey in MN. I think MN could have its cake and eat it too, as o...

Good case made by Napalm Problem is obviously tradition and the politics that go with it. The traditionalists that are not even remotely interested in Tier 1 will fight it and that makes up most of the state. The state has to approve a Tier 1 program. Why would they if they think the MHSHL will be t...

Fair point and I don't disagree. There are some young kids that are equipped to specialize at a young age. Not many of them, but there are some. And you are right, the world isn't black and white. But if you think all the young kids playing only one sport all year round, and a lot of it, are in the...

Does a kid that specializes at the age of 10 come out further ahead at the end of the day than a kid that specializes at the age of 14 or 15? To me, the key discussion point here has been touched on in this thread but not focused on. What age are we talking about? There's somewhat of a difference b...

Re: MN Hockey reminds coaches hockey is about having fun

From MN Hockey email newsletter: How short is your bench? I received an email recently from a 17-year-old “former youth player.” She related that as a U-14 when their team began district playoffs she and a couple other players did not skate one shift in any of the games. She sat and watched with no...

I'm gonna come out and say it. I don't know who you are, or what your qualifications are. I do think however that you are looking for clicks. The way you get them is to create controversy. Your insight and propaganda are simply a way to get read. Your articles focus on nothing short of tabloid yout...

I got a kick out of the post that stated that parents don't select the drills or the players. Wow. Maybe need to do a check on just how many associations have parent coaches at the PWA(AA) level. There is no good reason to have any part of the tryout process closed. If a parent gets "unruly" during...

Problem parents - problem dad coaches. The system isn't perfect on either side of the coin. Just set up some ground rules for the parents to keep it civil and throw the best system out there you have. We all have our own opinions right or wrong, but full disclosure is always the best policy. And whe...

So let's see if I have this right Former A teams, now AA will not only be playing the top teams but also former B1 teams, now A. The only associations with B1 teams that won't move up to A are those that want the team to compete at the B2 level and thereby keeping them at B1. State playoffs have not...
