Re: A and AA Enrollment Information

Mn river= st peter, lesuer, henderson, belle plain, montgomery, lonsdale, lecenter, cleveland Single A really? Did anyone care until their state tournament appearance last year? Those communities are all small towns with no tradition of hockey success. You also need to look at the participation numbers in...

Re: Transfers for 2019-20 season

Whatever TG is doing it hasn't seemed to help much the past several years. Totally new coaching staff (actually twice) after longtime coach Loahr retired two years ago. Brian Murphy coached 2017-18 before leaving for CDH, then Adam Sharratt stepped in last year. Loahr was not a particularly aggress...

Re: Death of inner ring suburbs hockey

Whenever this topic comes up, Karl inevitably references his excellent blog post regarding the changing demographics of the Twin Cities and how they relate to hockey. Speaking from personal experience, I grew up primarily playing in the Brooklyn Park youth system, which for years was among the bette...

Re: 2019-2020 Coaching Changes List

Former NHLer Greg Zanon will be the new head coach in Stillwater! https://twitter.com/YouthHockeyHub/status/1123976050822848512 https://www.eliteprospects.com/staff/46511/greg-zanon That feels awfully familiar. We’ll see if the results are better for the Ponies this time around. They certainly seem...

All division teams:

Central:

Sam Malinski (D) - Lakeville
Aaron Myers (F) - Thief RIver Falls
Dalton Weigel (D) - Bloomington (BRECK)
Had to add that info for you  Unfortunately there won’t be as many honors like that to go around for the old alma mater in the foreseeable future.

https://www.neutralzone.net/mens/2019/04/30/lessons-from-the-road-a-scouts-life/ Good read some very interesting thoughts I will hold off commenting on. GB Agreed, it was a good article. A little meandering at times, but he brings up some excellent points. I particularly enjoyed the part about the ...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

The Bulldogs have shown that the last 3 years. They have a bunch of MN kids from up north and the metro, and mix in some gems from *ahem Canada with a team first attitude and they get the job done. Sandelin is a very good coach with a proven system, he deserves all the credit he’s received. It took...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Would you rather play for SCSU, UMD, UND and play way more close to home, or play for the gophers and be a long ways away a lot? I still think that might have some influence on some kids and their parents. The NCHC travel is every bit as bad as the Big Ten. Other than the three semi-clustered teams...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

OTC, Im just saying, how much is too much from one high school during a single gopher season ? 5? 7 ? 10? 15? Wondering if some of the Gopher historians might remember the previous record number on a single year's gophers roster from a single HS program? Lets cut it off at 1975. Were there ever 7 R...

Re: NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings

I remember Lou Nanne saying on the radio when Ben Brinkman was a high school junior that he is a 1st round NHL pick, probably top 1/2 of the first round. What happened? What happened is that you somehow believed that Lou could have a remotely objective opinion regarding an Edina player  While...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

From what I hear, UW-River Falls pretty much cut all there Tier III Junior players this spring. Apparently Tier III Juniors isn't enough anymore either even for DIII hockey. In most cases it never was. There are plenty of NAHL and even USHL players who don’t make it at the DI level to fill out DIII...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Changing gears a bit, I am copying a post from the USCHO forums that touches on an interesting point regarding UMD’s success, one which was echoed by a friend of mine who is a UMD alumnus and is a season ticket holder. As someone who has been going to UMD games since the early 80's as a little kid,...

Re: June 2019 Draft

Ben Brinkman I’m sure his stock dropped quite a bit with the poor season he had , but omitting Brinkman entirely from the list seems crazy, particularly given his mid-term ranking from central scouting. Also, I am biased since I know his family, but Helleson is way too low on this list. He was 33rd...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

It is going to take someone pretty special to go straight from high school to college any more. Heck, even D-III schools want players to have junior experience under their belts. And who can blame them when the rules allow it. Why would you want an 18 or 19 year old freshman when you can have 20 or...

Re: State of Hockey's Team

Great stuff...Nice work on digging up the info... We need to see more kids play out their high school careers versus leaving early Do you know how many went right from High School to college? Age wise they are considered a "young team" in comparison to the other 60 D-1 programs The question is...If...

Re: NDTP Invites MN edition

Okay so if I'm following that logic (and trust me I'm not arguing with you) Take the 1998 birth year. It would have around 50 kids right now - Either at the D-1 school, at juniors but verbally committed or maybe already played a year or two of college and currently playing pro (The W and OHL we can...

You're saying 40-50 2003 birth year kids from Minnesota will eventually play D-1? Wow I had no idea the numbers were that high. Impressive Anyone know the current number of 2001's verbally committed ? 2000's ? Easy to find by grad year on FollowthePuck.com http://followthepuck.com/index.php/minneso...

Right, plus Haider! Just ridiculous! Crimson boosters and admin should put on the coffee pot and do some fresh brainstorming. Re: NDTP Invites MN edition

Steering the conversation back away from my boarding school tangent, three players from Minnesota must be one of the smaller groups of players from the state in some time. There are a lot of players from non-traditional areas, seemingly even more than in recent years. I don't think so: 2019 - Janic...

Re: 2019-2021 Section Assignments

Lastly, the Tartan situation is somewhat disconcerting in that they are a team with only two seasons below .500 since their back-to-back state appearances in 2004 and 2005. They had 18 wins in 2016-17 and 17 the next season, making the 4AA semifinals both years. That is not a team struggling to com...
