Elaborate. Teams and players take on the personality of their coach. Bill Lechner is always calm and cool. His teams play tough and disciplined hockey. Greg Vannelli is a yeller. He is constantly barking at officials. As a result his players are always looking for the penalty and waiving their arms...

Agree completely. That was a great game. Lots of hitting, all out effort, lots of scoring, a late goal winner and a pipe shot at the buzzer. Happy to see the Governors win in St. Paul.

HM - STA

Those numbers are a little deceiving. It's 12-6-1 HM in the last 9 years. Still Bill Lechner and HM has the edge over some pretty talented Vannelli STA teams - 5 of which were Class A State Champs.

Re: HDM

Note to stpaul: Not sure where you get you information and if you've ever been out of St. Paul. HDM at Minnetonka was not set up in a parking lot. The venue was on the shores of Lake Minnetonka in the park known as the Commons in downtown Excelsior. The location was a great backdrop that provided g...

HDM

Disagree with Mouse and barry. The City of St. Paul, Hill-Murray, St. Thomas Academy and Johnson High School have hockey roots and tradition too. The site is a beatiful one. Not only will there be the Holman Field military backdrop, but also the river, the bluffs and downtown. Using one of St. Paul'...

Driving up from the Twin Cities for this one. Need advice on tickets, etc. How early should we get there to get a good seat? How is the concession food? First Visit to the Heritage Center. Really looking forward to it. Thanks.

Schwan Cup

Hill-Murray is 18-17-3 all time vs. Edina (including Edina East & West). They will now play twice in the next 11 days. These games will be a good test for HM to see if they can really compete with the best teams in the state. Their 4-3 loss to Lakeville North last week was actually encouraging. Lots...

I don't think you can draw that conclusion based on WBL losing in OT to East Ridge on Dec. 27. Lots of hockey to play and a meeting in late January in Vadnais Heights. However congrats to East Ridge.

HM

Agree that Jake Wittl was an idiot. Put your head down and go fist bump with your bench. There were 33 minutes left to play and it was 1-1. Nothing was won yet. He deserved the penalty. I have seen all 3 Aldrich games and am starting to really like this HM team. Mitch Slattery's graduation and Joey ...

HM

I was at the Burnsville game. HM played very well in the first period and into the 2nd. They were up 3-1 and then went flat for the last 22 minutes of the game. They were lucky to hang on. They did take a lot of penalties and were shorthanded at least 4 times in the 3rd period. They were outshot 15-...

Hill-Murray / Aldrich Arena

This is certainly good news for HM followers. Aldrich is still a great place to play and watch high school hockey. The new locker rooms will be a nice "recruiting" tool for HM.

Anybody know much about Nate Peasley? I see that he played at Bethel up until 2007. Does he have more coaching experience than his one year as an assistant at North?

Need some help. Love the tourney and its great history.

AA Semifinals Friday night: No private schools. No northern schools.

Exactly which one of these 4 southwest suburban mega-schools am I supposed to get excited about?

Every section final anywhere is nerve wracking. These are great hockey games and better than 75% of state tournament games. Winner gets to go to state and loser gets nothing. Makes for tons of tension. Last night I watched EGF-Warroad on internet TV (great quality broadcast by the way) and switched ...

HM had to kick off 3 of their top 4 scorers to make that happen. Maybe some of the boys will get in trouble tomorrow at school.

Both brothers tormented the Pioneers. Peter had a hat trick in the 1995 Final - a 5-3 WBL win at Marriucci. Shawn had 2 goals including that OT winner in the 1996 Semifinal at the Coliseum - a huge 4-3 OT upset of #1 (22-1) HM by an under .500 (8-14-1) WBL team. HM had beaten WBL 7-0 and 6-2 earlier...

Peter Roed also spent 8 years in minor league hockey. He did have 2 full seasons in the AHL in 98-00.
