Observers description sounds more like slapshot than the USHL. GM's aren't just throwing kids out there to fill a roster. They are usually trying to advance in their profession just like the players are trying to advance to college. I am really not sure what you don't like about it. The GM's are try...

Observer - It's too bad your kids jr experience involves sitting around drinking beer in some boring midwest town. My experience was that most of the guys I played with in the USHL probably had more beers in the their first week of college than we did in 2 years of jr's. At least the team I was with...

Some of the great hockey minds on this forum said Jake Gardiner wasn't ready to play defense in the wcha either but he wound up on the all-rookie team and has turned into one of the best defensive d-men in the country at wisconsin and is their best penalty kill guy. I think he led the NCAA in +/- th...

Barribal did rip it up when he got to the U leading a team with Okposo, wheeler, stoa and other good players in scoring. He had a little sophomore slump but is already over 100 points going into his sr year. Not bad. He had more points his Freshman yr than ness, sachetti, and white combined. Not sur...

Gretzky was great. Yuoso was the 41st leading scorer in the NAHL during his 20 year old season. I guess he's great in Owatonna. Just another example of a player who dominates nordern MN until they play with the big boys and then they find out they might just be avg. Sachetti, Ness, White, etc. Falls...

Im not doubting that either. Yes, Roseau had an easy schedule and that could have hurt Ness in the voting but he still won the award. My point on Ness/Gardiner was that I didn't agree with the guy who said they are still on the same level.

I didn't try to bash Hanowski if I did. I just stated that they played a weak schedule where he probably wasn't really challenged much and could sort of do what he wanted. If anything I said he probably lost votes because of the schedule he played where it might have given 494 players like Leddy an ...

Leddy did a lot of things great that didn't show up on the scoresheet. When I saw him play he was basically unbeatable in one on ones and controlled the play in his own zone. His passing and breakouts were as good as it gets. Hanowski probably didn't have to worry about anything but scoring given Sm...

StayAtHome - Take your argument to the 4h forums as this is a hockey forum. I have no idea but how many NU kids are actually farmers as well and if they are running 200k combines are they really as bad off as you make it sound. Any solid #'s on how many of them run milking operations? So what if the...

"I also believe that college teams that use juniors as their minor leagues and roster a team full of 23 and 24 year old players is "just wrong". Personally, I would rather see the Gophers ocasionally get to the final 4 and win the right way, than sell out their tradtions and win at a...

i agree with the mix idea. Take those real blue chip guys like the 4 mentioned above based on their ability and not guys just because they played in the prestigious NTDP program. I am not saying pass on guys like that at 18. More so that your depth should be filled with USHLers and 19 or 20 yr old f...

Ok you Gopher guys are right. Taking 'blue chip' guys at 18 and bring them in right away is the way to go versus 19 or 20 guys who are more physically mature and have proven they can score or do whatever there role is in the USHL. Heaven forbid you might lose an Ann Arbor kid to a rival team! The An...

Obviously playing USHL as opposed to NAHL would have been better. However, it is highly debatable if it significantly better and would have done all that much more than what he already got. That's all I am saying Ill agree with you there but what I am saying is have guys like this play a yr after h...

Ok you got me Gopher Blog. Guys like Flynn are better off coming in as 18 yr olds having played in any league with older players leading up to their fr yr. He probably wouldn't have benefited playing in 100 USHL games. I see Flynn had the lowest pt totals of any Gopher his first year for guys who pl...

Except when Flynn was there they played in the NAHL (not as good as the USHL; smaller, less talented players; not nearly as deep of rosters, less intimidating road buildings, etc.) and he scored about a point every 3 games in the NA. Is anyone surprised he chipped in a point every 3 games for the Go...

Take a look at Ryan Flynn. Maybe he will have a good pro career. He was an Ann Arbor/NTDP product, one of U.S. best players, played on the US Under 20 as one of the best players in the world for his age and did not have a great Gopher career. How about that for the cookie cutter, you need to play J...
