Lourdes had an "off night" and got beat? Come on. Northland Pines came out flat in the 1st and LHS couldn't do anything with that chance. Then NP came out playing hard in the 2nd and 3rd and it was a very close game. LHS played as good as they could. They have 2 very talented players, as shown by th...

I think Mayo showed who is the best team in Rochester. LHS was the 5th best team in the Class A side. (Probably would have been the 6th best in the AA side) They work hard but are just a cute little Class A team with 1 line. The tournament was well run and thanks to Mayo playing the Saturday night g...

Century has some injuries and some players out with rules violations. I think they will struggle for a while. Roy, this season, I predict Mayo is the best team in Rochester, though rules violations have hit them too. Century has had a long run of being 1-2 with Mayo. But Century is in for a down yea...

Lucia: The analogy I'd use. How many Bantam teams could beat a "decent" high school team? Could a top 10 Bantam team beat a 3rd tier HS team? Maybe. But, if the team only has 1-2 "super-stars" (like a Gersich), or are small, or are young, or don't have a really good goalie, the HS team, being 1-4 ye...

There could be alot of reasons. But a drop in numbers is a huge one. Somebody else (Goldy I think) was right that school enrollments are down over the past 20 years. Each grade used to have over 1,500 kids with JM, Mayo and LHS. Now is down 150+ per grade, yet the town has 30k-40k more people. Why i...

HockeyRoch: You obviously don't know what you're talking about. RYHA has not had a North/South team for 10 years. Was too watered down then and 75% of the players were north and 25%. So the bottom north kids had to play with the south kids. Was a disaster. RYHA has had the top 15 skaters on 1 A team...

See Bo, you want to make this personal. And it is not about me or my boys or the various levels I have coached. I am looking at the entire state of MN, not my little corner of it. It is personal for you. You can't see the big picture and with anything that is said, you view its impact to your own pe...

LHS has had very good teams over the years. They would have beat JM every year. Some years (like this year) Century. Other years Mayo. But I don't think LHS has ever had (what the title of this thread is) The Best Team in Rochester. But they play at the Class A level so we will never know. Class A h...

Very simple Bo. When a district has 8 of each level (AA-A) I see no reason why they should be FORCED to play each other. But I think there are many larger associations where their A level team can match well with other associations AA teams. This format allows them to play each other. That is not "s...

Ahhh, no. The problem was in the past too many B1 caliber teams were playing at the A level so they could somehow get better. I had said all along, the B1-B2 thing has worked well for years. Do it at the A level. So we have AA and A. I agree with you that FORCING A teams to play AA teams is stupid. ...

Talon: Relax, I didn't say LHS is the worst team in Rochester. Year to year teams change. One year Mayo is better. The next Century. JM has not been the best team in Rochester for many years. While it's possible LHS may have had the best team in Rochester at some point over the years, I maintain May...

Sounds more like you agree with me now! What, did you forget your position on this? You have always maintained the old A-B1-B2-C is best! I'm sure you will think this is very complicated, but D10 has 8 AA and 8 A teams at PW, and 8 AA and 7 A at Bantams, correct? For the 8 team leagues, play each ot...

How about you ask the 3 seniors how their Elite tryouts went? Oh yeah, they were invites, no tryout! 1 was still in a cast! I totally agree LHS has had some very good hockey players. But problem is, they have almost always been a 1 line wonder. Add a decent goalie here or there and a couple solid D-...

Able to have an AA team? I've always said the AA-A thing should not automatically reflect the HS program(s) they feed, it should be based on association size. I would say 75-80 players at each level is a starting point for discussion. Then you have an AA-A-B1-B2-C team. Small associations with 12 st...

Put down the purple kool-aid! The reality is several attempts had been made to get LHS adminstration to opt up to AA. The adminstration has said no because they don't want LHS to become a "hockey school" that "recruits" players. They want to maintain their Catholic enrollment fed by their K-8 system...
