Re: Coaching Changes

Forest Lake Girls' Hockey has filled their head coaching vacancy by hiring Breanna Gaffy, a Michigan native and 2015 St. Mary's University graduate. Gaffy (Breanna Peterson then) played for the Cardinals from 2011-2015.

Re: 2023 Boys Hockey State All-Tournament Teams

So it's not an all tournament team, it's an all quarter finals and semi finals award. Real smart.

Re: 2023 Boys Hockey State All-Tournament Teams

Because the MSHSL has no idea what's going on. In both A and AA there are more members from second place teams than from champions? In the girls' AA tourney a player gets a hat trick in the championship game and huge goal in the semi's to propel her team to the title and gets left out. These are the...

Re: Minnesotans in Division lll Hockey

Lots of data there. There was no head to head between Middlebury and UWEC. The common opponents stack up this way: Middlebury vs. River Falls 0-1 = .000 UWEC vs. River Falls 1-2-1 = .375 Seems common opponent slants in favor of UWEC. Can't really speak to RPI other than Middlebury and Colby both ran...

Re: Minnesotans in Division lll Hockey

The DIII tourney is currently strictly formula driven based on the Pairwise poll, with no room for voting or negotiation. Of the 4 NESCAC schools in the tourney, Middlebury and Colby have records of 16-7-3 and 17-7 respectively. Meanwhile, UW-Eau Claire, the first team out, has a record of 22-4-2, w...

Re: Minnesotans in Division lll Hockey

Couldn't agree more. D 1 has 11 teams in the tourney out of 42 total teams playing women's hockey (26.2 % of teams make the tourney). D III also has 11 teams in the tourney but has 72 teams that offer D III women's hockey (15.2 % of teams). Good logic.

Re: Minnesotans in Division lll Hockey

Two big NCAA Division III games this Saturday with loads of former Minnesota high school girls' hockey players on all four teams. Number 3 ranked UW-River Falls hosts #7 ranked UW-Eau Claire for the O'Brien Cup, the WIAC tourney championship, at 2:00 pm. In the MIAC, #1 ranked Gustavus Adolphus host...

Re: Coaching Changes

Good points with BSM and CLHS. What other big schools? South Suburban might see some changes at AVHS and Eagan. South, North, Farmington, Eastview, Shakopee and Prior Lake won't see any changes. Some of the longest coaches around been at those school (not prior lake but she did a great job building...

Re: tourney

I think a lot of credit should go to Billy Hengen. After being outshot pretty significantly in the first Gentry, either through adjustments and/or motivation, came out much stronger in the second period.

Re: 2023 Ms. Hockey Semifinalists

My belief is that it will be won - and deserved - by Ella Boerger. Although she actually moved to Andover before ninth grade, she apparently doesn't "count" as a transfer because she didn't start her HS hockey career at Sartell, as Nora Sauer did the following season. I'm looking forward t...

Ethics question for the group: If you had footage of a section competitor committing a MSHSL rules violation, is it ethical to sit on the information until the week you play said competitor in a section final? Asking for a friend

Re: 2023 Ms. Hockey Semifinalists

It's not the High School League that sponsors the award but point well taken. What a haul the University of St. Thomas has with this 2023 class of Sajevic, Boerger, Brown, Bartz, Hause and others. Will be very interesting to follow the Tommies the next few years.

Re: 2023 Ms. Hockey Semifinalists

Here's a great scheduling idea: let's have the MSHSL mandate that every hockey team that built their school in the parking lot of a hockey arena and has
5 hours of WIN time per week to skate MUST play Gentry so their precious schedule is filled up.

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Regular season is over and playoffs have begun. Where are we with Ms. Hockey? Are we really going to give it to a player with 20 goals and 14 assists?
Top three should be Boerger, Hause and Higuchi IMO.
