Re: Top 20 single A teams since inception (1994)

12 OR 13 OF THE 20 SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHERS? Influencing Factors (in no particular order): 1. Community Population 2. Community Financial Resources 3. Geography/Access to addition hockey resources (AAA, Tier 1, HP, Leagues, Development, etc.) 4. Ability to attract and keep (top)players 5. You...

Re: 3 PM Matinee Games - BLAH!!

For those teams that often travel 2,3, 4 or more hours one way there has to be a sacrifice. For the student-athlete it is either missing school to travel or getting home late (sometimes both). Missing school can be really tough for those on a block schedule where missing one class is like really mis...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Still having this discussion? Hermantown is playing by the rules. Why hate? Just beat them Agreed. Hermantown is playing by the rules. Fans statewide, generally speaking, can’t stand that program. I have witnessed several times over the years. Fans throughout the state can’t stand that program. Ins...

Umm.. so a new area of the state gets some interest in hockey.... they obviously love hs hockey, why so negative man? Dont read it if you don't care. Honestly go re live your high school career in 7A or 7AA t...

Is the kid from Grand Forks (J.P.) crossing over to play for EGF?
To my knowledge he has crossed over the river for school...
with the intent of playing MN hockey.
Thanks. That is what I heard as well. EGF is going to be very good.

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

If they want a shot at winning the section they’ll pick Chiodo rather than another former Rapids player. Chiodo is a proven winner. He would be okay as an interim coach. If they want to win the section this year, they are better candidates. I pretty sure he took a couple teams to state within the l...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

I can tell you from direct experience with a similar situation. A interim head coach could set the program back. If there is an opportunity to simply make a hire, that would be ideal. Well said! I really could care less what they do. I’m a diehard purple so I really could care less. I actually hope...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

GR should hire the best coach they can given the situation they are in. If things go well and that coach is the best long-term option for the program, then hire back for the next season. Like most places in life: make the best decision you can, evaluate that decision at the appropriate time, determi...

Re: Section 6A 2019-20

I'm not too surprised, Alex FF, Rocori and Sartell are all in the Central Lakes Conference with Brainerd. That makes sense. I guess being a AA team in Section 8 I didn't expect to see so many A teams from a different section (River Lakes especially, but perhaps I am underestimating them). River Lak...

Re: Bantams vs. High School

My association is dealing with this. IMVHO, it is a huge negative. All but one second year bantam moved up. With what is left, we have to play Bantam B. We have a handful of first year bantams that should be playing Bantam A hockey that will now not develop as they should. None of the players that ...

Re: Bantams vs. High School

I'd say the high school situation they move into would be a factor. The transition is going to be easier on a young player if he has stronger teammates around him. Conversely, they are going to struggle getting the puck out of the zone or be put in more vulnerable positions in the offensive end or i...

That’s about a month later than most metro based teams Yes. Most student athletes up here are multi sport. There wouldn’t be many kids at captains practice if it started September 30th. Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

Let's not forget they cut 3/4 of the players that tryout for HS, law of averages and history shows he has more talent as a whole than most schools every year to choose from (except MG from #'s). He should be able to win more consistently. Not saying anything about him not being a good coach, but so...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

Something to consider is how the cut off date affects high school numbers. I don’t believe adding more players to high school in this way is beneficial for development, participation, or winning. Unlike sports like football, soccer, basketball, and baseball, there is not a ninth grade team in hockey...

Slapshot, which sections are you most interested in preserving and why? All of them as far as format. I am not saying they can't be tweaked as far as placement, but reaching the state tournament should be an accomplishment. Upsets happen and that is part of the magic. To me a 2 class hockey tournam...
