Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
Is this really such a big deal that it requires 10 separate threads every single season? It’s ridiculous. Rant time... I’m willing to bet that for most people this isn’t about giving other small towns a chance. It’s purely about hating the top dog, which right now is Hermantown. I say that because ...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
Interesting Post. I will bite being its Class A I will play devil's advocate I know you are a big Monti Guy. So I will ask was it fair then in your mind that your program was giving the benefit of the doubt and allowed by the MSHSL to play Class A with AA Enrollment because you were not competitive...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament
I personally think MSHSL needs Boys hockey more then boys Hockey needs the MSHSL. would it be better for everyone to opt out and just be under Minnesota hockey? You can still do the state tournament the same. You could have sectionals or adopt region play like youth hockey. You could then play 40-5...

Re: What new Co-Op would be instantly relevant?
The new Virginia-Eveleth Co-op has me curious what you all think? What new co-ops would be instantly relevant at the AA level? In my area, the girls Brainerd-LF co-op has been successful. Would a B-LF co-op at the boys level be similarly as successful? Would it make Brainerd more of a threat in 8AA...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
You still haven't answered my questions. How many teams will have to be moved from A to AA as per your 'little plan"? Where does it stop? I bet I can take a good guess: (top 10 rankings) Hermantown - move em up... duh Cathedral - move em up... duh pt2 Warroad - they are too good, move em up Or...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
Orono - city team, move em up A city team?! funniest thing I've heard in awhile. Ok, it is a City and they do have a team, so maybe that is what you meant. Have you been to downtown Orono? Let me know next time you are there. I'd love to treat you to a horse ride on the Luce Line trail. Orono's sch...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
For the bad that Warroad had the last decade they are going to make up for this decade. Again do a little research. Warroad is going to be pretty loaded for some time. Keep asking me the same question, it seems to be working well. My plan is keep it the same. Do you have memory loss? Oh and keep qu...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
I remember when the AA/A split happened at the youth levels. The spin at the time was that there was no split, all teams were considered A teams and would regularly schedule each other and attend the same tournaments. Nothing would change except there would be a AA and A designation for state tourn...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
This is all an interesting debate, and I will toss in some thoughts about the title of this thread using Alexandria as an example. I am no longer directly involved in the youth program, but these are some discussions we have had. Our youth district (15) consists of 2 AA programs. Moorhead and Braine...

Breck and Warroad. Those 2 teams should really move up. They are light years above the rest of Class A. No disrespect to Cloquet, South St. Paul, etc. I am kind of surprised these 2 teams do not get the Hermantown Boys treatment.

Re: North Star Academy-Alexandria
I’ve heard it’s been a big boost to add another sheet of ice in the town as it was hard to come by at the main rink. Also heard they’re building a third rink attached to the two they have at the fairgrounds so they’ll have 4 indoor arenas. Seems that program is growing well As a restaurant owner, y...

Interesting that these thoughts come up once a year for about 3 weeks. I just looked back at the trail and realized this thread was just getting re-uped. Yes Monticello lost some guys but it's still growth of of our loved sport....however only time will tell how a school or team like this will surv...

Re: Section 6A 2019-20
Thursday, January 2 Brainerd 4 at Alexandria 1 Sauk Rapids-Rice 1 at River Lakes 5 Kind of an ugly loss for Alex. Brainerd is down this year, and Cathedral and Hermantown mauled them. Yeah, Alexandria has not looked good coming out of the break. Mahtomedi pretty much handled them, and even though I...

Re: 2010s All-Decade Team and Awards
Great post!
I could see a category like best individual performance, or break out performance - Just so I could slide Jack Powell of Alexandria in the Class A slot. His game against Hermantown in 2018 was jaw dropping.

Re: Section 6A 2019-20
The question was and is can any team in 6A upset SCC? If Warner is in the line up, it will be fairly long odds. Probably only Alexandria has a shot and only if one of their solid goalies really gets hot that time of year. If Warner is out, both Alexandria and Little Falls have a shot at taking them...

Re: Top 20 single A teams since inception (1994)
Anyone have anything on Red Wing or Fergus Falls? I scratch my head a bit on Fergus. A few years back they had a very strong team that was right there in a strong section with Alexandria, Apollo, Sartell. Unfortunately, they are in a tough stretch with multiple classes of low numbers and not much f...

Once again you have a problem. Hermantown only has 650 kids enrolled. You cannot go by enrollment Virginia, Hibbing snd the likes have almost double Hermantowns enrollment.making it 3 classes solves nothing Ummm... yeah there would be no way Hermantown or similar programs would be willing to stay i...

Re: The Hermantown Thread
I am not defending Hermantown or any other school, the point is if you use enrollment to oust Hermantown you achieve nothing, they have similar numbers to the other schools. If you want them out so you dont have to compete against them then rank the teams and go back to tier 2 hockey.Or the other o...
