Brian Arrigoni
Brian was a great player at Hill-Murray. Very speedy and very feisty. I remember the mid ice hit he put on Jay Bariball in the 2006 3-3 tie game with Holy Angels. He knocked Bariball out of the game. He had 30 goals that year. I am glad to see he is still playing and is in college at Hamline. He wil...

Letter to the editor
"Hill-Murray teams are all-star conglomerations of star players recruited and drawn from many east metro neighborhoods, weakening all the other teams around them by using those communities' best players against their home schools." This is the first I saw this. This guy is a weenie. I didn't know th...

Johnson - I Falls state finals in 63 & 64. I was a little kid. Those were my sister's junior & senior years at Johnson. Johnson won in OT in 63 & Falls clobbered them in 64. I saw a lot of great Johnson - Harding games at Aldrich & at the Auditorium in the late 60s - early 70s. You could stand down ...

Dave Spehar
Dave Spehar probably had the greatest state tournament of all time. No disrespect to the Brotens or Phil Housley but they didn't win championships. Those early Eveleth teams were great but how many high school even had hockey then ? Spehar had 3 hat tricks and gave Duluth East it's first championshi...

Hill-Murray Pioneers
Congratulations to Coach Bill Lechner and the Pioneers. Bill is a class act and a great guy. He has worked 27 years as a coach and given his heart and soul to Hill-Murray and to all of the kids whose lives he has touched. I couldn't be happier for him. It's a great night for all of us Hill-Murray fa...

Private schools
This is the discussion that apparently will never die. OK - but there are no decisions left to be made. The MSHSL and the private schools decided 33 yrs. ago that private schools can be members of the MSHSL and will participate in tournaments. Conferences and section assignments will go on as they a...

STA
STA is all male and has 550 boys in grades 9-12. They double it on the MSHSL website to equate it with co-ed schools. It's not the first time the Pioneer Press has it's facts wrong. However it is a large class A school because it is the same size as a 1100 student co-ed school.

I liked Cretin's sign 2 yrs ago when they were winning the AA title after St. Thomas had won the A title earlier in he day:

HM
Dec. 22 at Aldrich vs. WBL was HM's reunion & celebration of the 1983 team. Aldrich was completely packed plus standing on both sides & ends. WBL did not have a pep band Friday. I too miss the demise of pep bands. You would think a school of 2,800 students would have a pep band. I have noticed that ...

HM didn't play Roseville and Johnson. And yes they did have bigger crowds than WBL, MV, North, Tartan & Mahtomedi at games this year. No I'm not blind, but I am apparently insulting your "intelligence".

HM
The biggest pile of crap on this board the past several weeks is the nonsense from the Johnson, Tartan & North crowd that HM has small crowds, weak student support & only show up for the playoffs. HM has 850 kids in grades 9-12 - that is 1/3 the size of WBL & MV and 1/2 the size of North, Tartan & M...

HM - STA
Hill-Murray has played more hockey games (72) vs. St. Thomas Academy than any other school. Historically it's pretty lopsided at 59-13. They have had 6 great games the past 3 yrs. HM is 4-2 in those games. They have played WBL 67 times (plus 4 more against Mariner).

HM
Hill-Murray played a more defensive style last night that will serve them well if they continue it next week. Their forwards got back, back checked and stayed in the defensive zone. They had few turnovers in front of Phillippi. He's very good when he can see the puck and play coming at him. WBL had ...

Just home from the Coliseum. It was another great HM - WBL game. The Coliseum was packed. It was a very tense game. Hats off to White Bear Lake. Owen Collette was great in goal for them. HM had the advantage in scoring chances. Joe Phillippi was also very solid. The HM D played much better than they...

HM 1999-2000
The Kehlers moved from Edina to Woodbury. He and his sister enrolled at HM. He wasn't stolen from anyone. That 2000 team is one of my favorites. They lost twice to WBL during the regular season. Kehler and the Pioneers played a great section final game winning 2-0 with an empty netter.

I took the liberty of editing your photo. Let's not forget the great victories last night by our brothers from St. Cloud Cathedral and Duluth (Cathedral) Marshall. Looking forward to Rochester Lourdes, Hill-Murray and St. Thomas Academy also slaying the pagans. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii2...

The surest signs of spring:
1. Pitchers and catchers report in Florida.
2. The swallows return to Capistrano.
3. Tulips pop out of the ground.
4. Hill-Murray and White Bear Lake play for the Section Championship.
