If rolling 1-4 evenly for the last period or two of an obvious blowout is what is being down down in Cardville, then last year those lines must have been insanely uneven given the number of blowout games and goals scored by lines one and two compared to three. Obviously the top two lines are expecte...

Thanks for the update. I heard from a colleague in Moorhead that Luverne held its own for whatever that is worth. He also said that all teams (as expected) were rusty and not firing on all cylinders. Specific to Luverne, he thought the lines were very balanced (top 3) as opposed to last year which m...

Just thought I would take a look at 3A for some scrimmage commentary. I think you must have to be from that area to understand all of the side comments and backhanded sarcasm but I still cannot get any real handle on how the scrimmages went? Redwood? Do they have a team? Sarcasm? Help us OOT people ...

Wow, as someone who also played in 'the tourney' some time ago, and as someone who has had a kid play in it, I have to say that despite some hockey experience after high school, the MSHST remains a highlight of my hockey life and my players. The drive to get back, regardless of who else is going to ...

Just a T-hawks faithful chiming in here. All programs lose quality players to graduation etc., but losing the caliber that GR lost in the previously mentioned players will test that defense that had an exceptional goalie in net last year. They must learn to take better care of the puck in their own ...

HAHAHAHA! Wow, if you were trolling Herb, you got a few bites! While I am not sure why people are questioning the leadership that has helped build the program in Luverne, (wasn't he coach of the year last season?), I totally agree that the comparison to the storied small town programs in our state i...

Why would they stay in the Open Division?! Anyone in the know out there have some insight here? From what I have seen of the Reebok and Elite leagues the Luverne programs at several levels are all about getting some recognition out there in scoutland? Why back away from potentially tougher competiti...

Perhaps I should have said 'tuiton' free as the families that choose to attend private schools still pay state taxes. But again, that is their choice. If you do not feel that the quality of MN public education is a good investment, I encourage you to explore states with no income tax or countries wh...

I would be interested to hear how BE academics end up as well, as that is clearly not the focus of that program. As for bashing the public school system and comparing it to other developed nations, be careful. The free public education FOR ALL model is NOT what you have in many other countries. They...

Also chiming in on probably the wrong thread, but so happy to see some people out there supporting the Mn HS model. I stand by the 'if the player is good enough they will be noticed' mantra. Hopefully enough people in MN are thinking BIG picture which isn't what path to take to the NHL, but what exp...

Yes, exactly. A player putting up multiple points against a weaker opponent means little. What they can do with good competition ie usually late section/state tournament games is a better measuring stick for how they will fare later. The ability may be there, just have to see it in tougher games. Wi...

Pretty defensive. Sorry if one of those players that didn't put up numbers late in playoff run or tourney is close to home (or in it most likely). Just looked at some numbers after people start mentioning d1. D1 prospects put up numbers against the best competition typically which I didn't see out o...

Guess I was thinking more of section semi, final, and state tournament. Didn't see anything from the early rounds. Olson was productive, but is NOT the kid all you 3A people rave about. The 8th grader had a couple. Otherwise not much out of the ones you mentioned. Early playoff games in 3A are prett...

Ouch! Be careful SouthernFan to practice what you preach. Talent is indeed a tricky word. 3A does have some very talented players. I would say that only a couple of those are d1. The rest of them tend to disappear when they play against better opposition, like a couple highly touted players from bot...

Can you co-op between states? I don't think so. If the kid lives in SD wouldn't they at least have to move to MN? 3A seems excited by the possibility that this kid may not be playing for Luverne in high school. Not being from the area, I would love to understand all the Luverne haters down there. I ...

While I completely agree that this system needs some revamping if it is going to be considered legitimate and not just another money maker for some group, the exposure is good for the kids that participate, which can lead to greater opportunities later. I will also say that although the tryout proce...

almost as happy, in reference to your quote, that was the best laugh I have had since..... well I don't know.... the last time someone said these checkbook, handpicked teams had anything to do with the kids performance over the eval sessions. These groups are pretty much picked before the so called ...

Where ya been?? Some very talented team players are overlooked every year for many reasons, few having to do wi...

Wow, I agree with some of these later posts. If you really follow the top HS teams in MN and pay attention to SSM, you have to see that they, like other top programs of any type have up and down seasons. SSM would no way win the state tournament 'easily' every year, come on. They would be a top seed...

Comment on the statement about 'pro' hockey players or semi-pro? making more money that those with a college education. If you are thinking about an NHL high draft pick going right to the big show they probably would. For a few years, or less as statistics clearly show. Your overall earning potentia...

I agree blueline! While I know successful people who went to college, and many who did not, face facts! The employment world is changing and you better have either a college degree or a degree from a technical school or program with a skill these days. Go play some post high school hockey if you can...
