Re: Dream State=Dream Curse.

I agree warmupthebus. I can’t believe they are continuing to do HDMN after a kid got bad frostbite this year. Not worth the hype IMO. Maybe move it south to Mankato, Rochester, Winona, Marshall or somewhere along I-90 like Luverne, Albert Lea, or Austin? It would more likely be warmer, still winter,...

Re: Ryder Donovan to Wisconsin

Here is the question I have. Why would a player agree to spend a year in Juniors and then put pen to paper committing to a school that wants him to do that? The way I see it, that school can keep recruiting and upgrading your position group, defer you off one year of Juniors, two years of Juniors, e...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates

Jumping in at the end of this. I have some perspective because my kids are pretty spread out. I have a 16 year old, May 2002 birthday, who is a Junior this year. He started kindergarten at 5 and he was fine. My youngest is 2, August 2016 birth year. There is no way we will start him in school at 5, ...

Re: Hudson WI is 2-0 vs MN teams, 0-2 vs WI...

I think Wisconsin hockey is like hockey in out-state, especially southern MN, the sport is growing and the talent is getting better. It's kind of like hockey everywhere in the country, the talent is getting better and good players are being produced in many different places. It's not a case of MN sl...

Re: Bullying at Hill Murray?

My take is that no institution wants publicity like this. This story lead the local TV news the other night. That is not a good look for H-M, no matter what. For the administration to dig in it's heels and oppose the transfer eligibility tells me either; A) They've investigated the claims and do not...

Re: Elk River senior F Jack Perbix commits to Gophers (former ND commit)

"Additionally, Perbix said that his college team wanted him to play for the Gamblers, adding they are willing to let him play collegiate hockey as a true freshman pending a good season in the USHL." Not very good optics for the U, encouraging recruits to leave school and go to the USHL. N...

Re: Minnesota Hockey state meeting June 22-24 2018

There is something a certain group wants to pass, in a different sort of method, perhaps sneaky would be a good word. And many of us oppose it. Should make for an interesting weekend in Brainerd, both in meetings and out. Hopefully, I ma not the only one to stand against it (them) again. What do th...

D3 athletics, some of you may laugh at it. Here is how D3 schools that have money really work. I graduated HS and was recruited for football by several D3 schools. The financial package they all put together were chock full of every type of scholarship name you could think of other than an "ath...

It's all about the numbers in your youth organization. I don't think they have the numbers to support 3 HS teams. Let's hope that changes. Hosting Hockey Day won't hurt them any, hopefully it helps in recruiting. Thinking about this, I mentioned Duluth, Rochester, and St. Cloud in this conversation ...

It would make it harder to make youth teams that could compete at the AA or maybe even A level. Not exposing the top players in your association to the top level of play in the state would have negative, long term, cumulative effects. That said, it would force the individual school communities to t...

Yep, I didn't even mention the USPHL teams. In no particular order.

Hudson (WI) Havoc (border city, I'll include them)
Minnesota Blue Ox (Coon Rapids)
Minnesota Moose (Blaine)
Minnesota Mullets (Forest Lake)
Steele County Blades (Owatonna)

Re: MN Junior Hockey pecking order....

......Is there a current pecking order of junior hockey teams in Minnesota as far as overall success? Look at the NAHL standings from the last several years, I suppose. The other measure of success is player advancement. I would put them in this order, personally. Austin Bruins Minnesota Wilderness...

Again, I still don't understand the hate for the Big Ten Hockey Conference. 4 NCAA berths with 3 teams making it to the Frozen Four. It's the best conference this year and poised to be the best conference going forward. Over half the teams in the BTHC were once in the WCHA. So what exactly is the pr...

I understand that, but there is nothing stopping the U from scheduling SCSU, UND, etc out of conference. And they do, and people still complain. I went to the Saturday night Wisconsin game this season and it was fun, the students made the atmosphere, but there were a lot of empty seats. I think the ...

Blueliner and I mean to say in my original post..more in state kids than out of state. Sorry about that. I would like a balance. I don't think any of us would really pay attention to gopher hockey if it was 10-12 23 year old kids from Canada wearing the gopher jersey. If you think we have an attend...

Here's what I don't want (and I'm guessing many will agree) 1. A team of a bunch of 22-25 year olds 2. A team of more out of state kids than in state 3. An arena that supports a 60-75% season ticket base (I'd like to see at least 1,000 free tickets for students...and at least 200 free tickets set a...
