Not whining pan. Please realize that the MSHSL is very clear in what programs need to provide for compliance. Booster money can be used, but in the end it is the school districts responsibility. Sponsors are sometimes harder to come by for girls programs, that's why it is clear that funding comes fr...

No Froggy, by public I meant not their own- you know... the kind you get when you book ice. We will have our own next year, but it seems that like other programs the boys rooms are far superior to the girls. The MSHSL handbook on title IX is clear about locker room equality...even in amenities. We ju...

Girls locker rooms versus boys locker rooms
Curious what different teams have for their girl's locker rooms. Is it comparable to the boys? Does JV have their own? Co-ops, do you share costs on improvements? Reason...up here in the Hinder-lands our program is just beginning to get our own locker rooms after 16 years of existstance. We have had...

I can see not much has changed since last year. Pepper- there is no cookie cutter answer to any of the this. My daughter attended the WCS tryout (as a goalie) several years ago just to have the experience...it was a great time seeing the different kids from outside MN. She was asked to go to Europe ...

Totally agree Wolfman. The Xcel does nothing to enhance the experience. I would even suggest switching locations every other year between Ridder and Amsoil. Amsoil is a fantastic venue for the tourney, and I'm not sure anyone could argue with a better setting than Duluth. I know it's a stretch, but ...

Ever wonder why Duluth has a Greyhound and Hibbing has an anchor? A Cliff note in jersey history- Duluth's Greyhound was originally supposed to be Hibbing's mascot- home of Greyhound Bus (same logo). The Bluejackets was meant to be Duluth's- paying homage to the worlds largest inland port and its se...

Herb Brooks Award
With all of the hoopla directed at the Ms. Hockey award, I thought it would be good to give a shout out to the young ladies that won the Herb Brooks Award. This award exemplifies the values, characteristics, and traits that defined Herb Brooks. Quite an honor in the State of Hockey. A hearty congrat...

MN Hockey operates much like an upside-down pyramid in that the power, in this case, falls in the lap of associations. USA Hockey won't recognize a MN Tier program without MH's blessing. If an association views it as a threat, it won't go anywhere at MH. It's pretty clever the way they have it order...

Marshall was a MH approved Tier1 program, although it was a dogfight to get the affiliate agreement in place. Duluth is a wonderful hockey town that easily attracted girls to move there and attend a quality prep school. It didn't work out for reasons having nothing to do with the model or numbers. I...

Never, you could argue that it was a pivotal season for Duluth, coming off of a mass mutiny. I won't find fault in the old coach as all of the info on what happened is purely rumor. I also don't like mutiny. That being said, it was a year that needed a glimmer of hope that winning ways would return....

Duluth vs. Htown vs. Marshall vs. Cloquet
While sitting around the rink the other night, the perennial "what-if" question came up. What if the powers-that-be allowed a game between East and Hermantown, or Marshall? Throw Cloquet into that mix. These teams have as much of a rich history as any other part of the state, but due to th...
