Im not surprised. Been waiting for them to break out a little more. Theyve got a top 10 metro junior, couple top 10 sophomores, probably the top freshman Jack Olsen, and from what Ive heard a reasonably solid base behind that. Havent been down to Highway 70 to Hasse this year, but I am interested i...

100% They are the greatest public school team ever recruited - oops I mean assembled – oops you know what I mean  North would have had more new players this year but 3-4 players from South decided not to make the jump (follow the North assistant coach). But that is another thread. North has 3...

South’s young defense will not be able to handle WBL’s physical play. Plus South is having a hard time finding goal scorers. I will give South one for being at home. 5-1 WBL.

Nick and Jack Poehling absolutely, positively need to be mentioned in the Mr Hockey discussions as well. Nick the finisher with 3 hat tricks already...(against Edina, HM and a solid Farmington sqaud) and Jack the dynamic set up man..watching all 3 boys play together is something to see. All seeming...

What is transpiring at Ames Arena tonight is a joke in the poorest of taste. In an already small arena and advance notice that ticket sales would be capped at 800, the geniuses at Lakeville North went and cordoned off 1/2 of the visitors seating for THEIR band & assorted student hangers-on. Cal...

Green4 and Sats81 With Bellows and Zuhls gone, what is your assessment of comparable talent level, without considering dynamics, coaching, good night/bad night, and other issues? Seems to me LVN actually has better raw talent at each position on 1st line, D pair and goalie. Your thoughts? Your thou...

Can't beat Edina shorthanded. If I'm the Lakeville coach I tell my players they'll sit if penalized. I don't care if it's any of the three types of penalties. Accidental, stupid or not worth the risk. Only way for LVN to win is for Edina to take more penalties. Zero penalties for LVN has to be thei...

Froggy, I meant open enrollment in its purest forms. No having to switch schools, no nothing. Go try out for and play with whichever associaiton you want. Complete free market, free choice. Updates on the Duluth transfers: Cam McClure has been ruled eligible, and will play varsity for Denfeld this season. Luke Dow's situation will not be resolved until the December 4 MSHSL meeting at the earliest. For preseason ranking purposes, I'm assuming he's not eligible. (Those will come out tom...

OTB, I reposted my final picks on Nov 5th, with EP in and DE out. Reposted below. So we have all the exact same top 10 teams, albeit some different order. At that time Bellows and Zuhlsdorf were unannounced departing, but I still think Edina and LVN would be tied for #1 anyway. Posted: Wed Nov 05, ...

You said the biggest risk is that we're losing our best athletes to other sports, "Way back at the start of the pipeline." And that it's not just Winter sports anymore, but all sports that kids are specializing in. The start of the pipeline in Hockey nowadays is roughly age 4-6. A few kid...

We are our own worst enemies when we talk about the cost to play hockey. When recruiting it's the first objection we get because the perception is out there that it costs so much to play. Truth is that hockey, while expensive, is not much different than any other travel sports these days, or dance,...

I do agree, though, that the cost of hockey is the biggest issue in the long run. It will continue to loom over the sport and, if unchecked, could turn hockey into a niche, country club style sport. Again, that's something that is far beyond the MSHSL's purview. It's hard to fight the market. Yes, ...

Re: When the golden goose gets aggressive

I have been lucky enough to attend nearly every state tourney over the last 30 years. Over the last 5-10 years the charm of the games has faded because the stars are not there. People want to watch a superstar kid score goals for the underdog team. The last time people really got excited and on the...

The whole premise around the non-stop preaching on this topic is in my opinion flawed. HS coaches and the MN hockey royalty all talk about how it's best to stay in the nurturing environment of the home until they graduate. There is one problem with that however. It only applies to a percentage of b...
