Re: 2023 Ms. Hockey Semifinalists

First, I can't speak to those teams not scheduling them. I'd assume it's not what they want....but it is what they have. Second, I totally disagree with you about regular season not mattering. Ask Edina the cost of losing 1 game to Blake. Now they have to get through BSM instead of Armstrong Cooper...

Thoughts go out to Deanna Fraser. I can't imagine dealing with a concussion and Ivy League coursework is easy on the psyche. I hope she is alright.

Re: 2023 Section Seedings

Edina gets totally hosed. Not a big Hornet fan, but what's right is right. They have 19 wins vs 14 wins. They beat Tonka (shut them out) Yes Yes tonka didn't have 5 players but still. Yes Blake beat them, but that won't happen again. Clearly the section saw a small tiny crack and chose to exploit i...

Re: 2023 Section Seedings

Currently there are 61 AA and 50 A teams. I'd prefer they cut off AA at 48 teams, 6 per section and put the remaining 63 schools in class A. Let the New Prague, Armstrong, Hopkins, Princeton, Sartell, etc. smaller schools play in class A where they belong and avoid 15-0 games in the quarterfinals o...

Re: 2023 Section Seedings

It's absolute nonsense that 6AA has only 6 teams and 7AA has 9. A team should have to win the same number of games to get to State at AA, no matter the section. I vehemently disagree with the A / AA structure for girls' hockey, but if it does exist, the MSHSL has to set up the brackets so each Secti...

Ah yes, the fights focusing on the 02 Machine Orange (later the 02 OS ELITE SELECTS) and the 01/02 Ziegler Selects (and their goalie) and Miracle Gold teams. Fun times.

On another note, Blake and Gentry should be irrelevant for a long long time after this year.
They could reload quickly though, right?
One more likely than the other, given its institutional advantages (academic strength, location, etc.)

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

JG, you make a great case for Ella Hause. Hill is having a phenomenal season with the only blemishes a 3-1 loss to Edina on Dec 1 and a 2-1 OT loss to Minnetonka at Pagel in mid December. Like some other Ms. Hockey candidates, she missed four games while playing for the USA U18 team in Sweden. In h...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Who's the current front runner for Ms. Hockey? Also, has girls' hockey died this year? about one post every fortnight I would argue the winner should be Hause. She's third in scoring on YHH's current #1 ranked team, despite having missed five games. She is one of three seniors on that #1 ranked tea...

It will be interesting to see if the absence of the girls playing in the U18 Worlds will have any significant impact over the next couple of weeks.
Biggest impacts will probably be on Hill-Murray's defense, and the lack of activity for whoever runs the Tonka penalty box.

Re: Games of the Week

Looked like 15s was a 2 minute cross check and 10 for complaining, but I'm not sure. The initial hit was from behind, but it was more shove than a real crosscheck. If they gave the 10 for the hit, that seems like overkill - 2 minutes seemed about right. 14s was yet another dirty, dirty play. Very a...

Re: Spring HP Rosters - By the numbers (and schools)

Also - Miami would make a lot of sense if a school was considering adding a D1 Women's program. Close enough to MN and Chicago that they could attract talent and would make a good addition to the WCHA, maybe one day giving Ohio State a nearby rival. Beautiful campus and hockey facilities, and a rea...

Re: Spring HP Rosters - By the numbers (and schools)

I'll say the Miami campus is a little more centrally located and the campus is an upgrade from SCSU. Newly renovated dorms and the Arena has two sheets and is pretty tricked out. The campus area is really nice and safe - plenty of food and stuff is walkable. It seemed like the kids in St. Cloud wer...

Benilde-St. Margaret's vs Blake- Can the first line of Blake get it done? Roseau vs. Moorhead- Great Match up of northern teams. Moorhead by 3 Red Wing- Gentry Academy- I'm torn. Part of me likes that nobody will play Gentry. The other part says shame on them for playing one of the worst teams in s...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Comparing Lindsay to Mobley is apples to oranges. As noted, Mobley had 73 points during the regular season. She also had another 23 points in sections and state according to the MN Hub. She could have easily had another 30 points if Breck had kept shooting in 3rd periods, but their coach constantly...

Re: Ms. Hockey 2023

Hah, no idea why I wrote Reetz, yes I meant Bartz. We're on the same page, is Lindsay THE best senior in HS hockey this year? Debatable, I'd argue along with you that the answer is no. If I'm a D1 coach and can pick any 2023 girl right now, she wouldn't be the one for me. Again, NOT a dig on her, s...

Seems like the West side of town is attracting players at every level. This last week from the Orono Girls' Twitter feed: "Breaking News: Sophomore Kali Schmidt has been cleared to play for the Orono Varsity Girls Hockey team. Schmidt is a transfer from Delano and led the Tigers in scoring (22g, 15...

Re: Congrats Minnetonka -- 5 players selected for Under 18 National Team

I agree - it doesn't look like a player chased down a ref. So either the ref manufactured two assists on his own (or the scorekeeper in the box did), or it was adjusted after the game by the coach, but before either of us saw the game sheet. High school stats are often wrong as reported at game tim...

Nice to see Holy Family picking up right where they left off. On pace for over 400 PIMs. As usual. I've said this before but if you ever watch Randy on the bench it's absolutely insane. The screaming at officials starts from the drop of the puck. I can only imagine what tonight's game was like with...

Re: Congrats Minnetonka -- 5 players selected for Under 18 National Team

This is quite an achievement for 1 HS team to have 5 players selected. At the same time, one can only wonder how all these players ended up on the same team and somehow did not grow up through the Minnetonka Youth system. Many boys teams get raked for "recruiting". How is it that some girls teams e...
