Edina comments Thursday vs. LV N

Was bit worried about LVN putting the metal to the Hornet and was proven correct within those first 4 minutes - I thought it was time to find out what Edina is made of and/or this will be good prep for DE. Then "blink, blink" - in an instant an Edina rout was on! The Hornet is 23-0 (I beli...

Good info on Tonka perspective and their play on large sheet. I hope Im in good mood and stay for Tonka/HF...If things go south from 6-8 Ill have to put my maturity cape, order some cake and deal with it.

Good luck and health to all!

Can we wiretap O'Leary ?

while practicing at PIC? See what the strategy will be versus the Hornet? Same as last two years - 'no breaky, no fixy'? or deploy something else? Doesn't matter...right Curt? Wayzata was better overall team last year although their record doesn't show it - they had better team chemistry and believe...

Agree with '59'

Tonka 4-2 over HF...might be 5-3 if larger sheet allows for more open play and speed...which favors Tonka bit more. Should be good game. IF it does tip to the extreme? Its Tonka in a blowout, if anything.

Squirt C '00 game to attend...

be cool if you went to Wayzata/Blake to provide some scouting for us in Sec 2 - as I can't make any Thurs games due to prior commitment. Does Wyz turn it up a notch? Does Blake play spoiler? Maybe most interesting would be a take on Aaron Frankel (and Jack Sabre) for Blake - two former Edina kids - ...

Edina @ EP 2/15/18

As OTC put it - this was definitely an odd game. A microcosm of Edina's worst and best. We saw the Hornet float around nonchalantly early thus finding themselves down 2-1, then 3-1 in a blink. The BB turnover was especially poor, having turned to survey the landscape, grab puck and w/o looking for t...

Google Schmoogle

ummmm yeah - nobody arguing who his Daddy is or getting 2nd opinions on the 'diagnosis'...just reporting that 'word on the street' collectively stated that when YOU DO GO DIRECTLY to the team trainer opposed to the school nurse or family Dr. its different protocol. Apparently, once to team trainer a...

LetMeEatCake Edina summary looking ahead...

I hear you loud & clear. Giles SHOULD use this to teams advantage. We SHOULD see top-flite effort and pure speed versus EP and Wyz. Let it fester and let it burn as you prep for Sectionals. Hornets SHOULD get that Wyz curse off their back and head to state! Try as I might not to be a metro homer...

come by as a true love. Yeah - I tilted my head like a newborn beagle then lowered it in a state of speechlessness (rare for me) when I heard MV went to the team trainer/team doc for a 'slip and noggin bump' - on the car door? A-pillar of car door frame? Huh? Wha? - this from not one source, but thr...

clarity or more confusion?

Again, these teams have provided best hockey matchups Ive seen live at HS level in maybe 3-4 years...so evenly balanced w/ Tonka having the edge in net for sure. I was behind Tonka net for Edina double-attack and that was Glockner in net - unless he and Atticus Kelly swapped teams for the weekend......

Edina opponents week of 2/12

its mentioned that both Edina opponents, Eden Prairie and Wayzata 'were competitive in their first games' with Edina. Not so...their first games were blowouts. Embarrassing blowouts, for EP anyway. This week Thursday at EP and Saturday home vs. Wayzata will be EP's 3rd matchup of the season and Wayz...

Post Edina / Tonka vibe

As much as Karls take is completely valid lets not forget a few things; Edina has been tested versus the 'Wayzata Way' e.g., trap & collapse and hope your goalie plays well as seen in LV South, WBL, Centennial & Wyz tilts and pulled through to win so no worries there - simply too much talent...

A flawless ranking, Karl

Perfect rankings and backed with logic and feel. So fun to read. Ok, thats enough kissing up. From the games Ive attended Tonka, although down Luedtke, met its match physically in DE and ended up simply bit over-powered as game went on. This is exactly what Tonka did to Edina. Drawing parallels, St ...

Yes, back surgery. Bone spurs...last couple games before surgery he would lay flat on back before during (intermissions) and after games...slow, tough recovery. Godspeed coach!

late musings on Edina/WBL

Lot of positivity flowing post-game versus WBL, but Im staying Costanza on this. I still felt the Hornet was sloppy coming out of their own zone and saw, yet again, a slower, more lax and non-fundamental display from their defensive leader. It seems teams new approach on aggressive forechecking is s...

Snapshot you are correct...

Tonka with the Bantam AA title followed up by WBL this past spring, 2017. Yes, Fall 2017 Elite league, Team SW, had 6 MTKA players including Glockner in net. One of strongest Elite teams I have ever seen. The Tonka kids fore-checked, back-checked all over the place and its that attitude that seeming...

DK & Crosby POV from Bville tilt on 1/2/18

Yes, the announcement at game had DK w/ the goal and Malmquist with the assist when opposite occurred. DK made slick pass to LM and LM buried it for the cross-ice goal, thus giving DK 4G/1A for a 5pt night. DK definitely feeling better and playing more confidently now post-concussion. DK even had a ...

I posted a ramble on Tonka/Edina game within the "Schwans Cup: injury status" post, but as usual, Karl and OTC are spot on. Edina CAN get very sloppy and go through the motions...its a result of an early season schedule, featuring normally strong teams, yet whose teams are down this year a...

The rule of 2

WOW. 1st period 2-2 and as even a match as one could hope. 3rd period 0-0 and as even a mach as one could hope. 2nd period 3-0 Tonka over Edina. 2 of the 3 Tonka goals scored in 2nd due to careless, sloppy, lazy turnovers with one committed by Brinkman leading to a breakaway shortie... #17 had a rou...

Schwans bracketing...

So, #1, #2 and #5 in one bracket and STA alone in top bracket? Maybe this is slotted earlier in the Fall, but wouldn't you bracket this about 7-10 days out and balance brackets for a (theoretically) higher quality tourney? Interested in seeing Centennial...Having seen all the STA and Tonka kids at F...

Edina injury status

Been searching for this info since last Wed 12/20...dug deep, scoured sources - but nothing and for obvious reasons I suppose. DK held out for 'concussion' precautions but was in attendance w/ family at the CDH tilt. Looked fine. Rumor has it the Edina 'team doctor' normally declares any head injury...

Captaincy

Original question: Presumably Brinkman and Walker (Sr and Jr)...Brinkman is solid as they come but I agree a So. captain is pushing it. He will achieve enough and receive plenty of accolades in his HS and college career - does he 'need' a 'C' as a sophomore? Probably not. Then again - IS that what d...

Mackays #

'0' would be kinda cool...however I think he's wearing #30. Edina goalies usually don '30' or '1' depending on who the starter is, upperclassmen chooses, etc. Willie Benjamin wore '1' title year of 2012-13. Mackay may well be the key this year. On paper, Edina loaded and ready to go...Karl calls it ...

Reply to Bonin2121 re: Williams at Edina

Best as I've seen/heard is that Nick (Nicholas) Williams is loaded w/ potential, multi-sport athlete, smooth skater and steady head on his shoulders for his age as he just turned 15 this past Sept as a 2002 born. However, even for a 9th grader - he's undersized. I believe he's approx 5' 8" / 15...

Hockey on Fire...question

as you seem to be in the know... You mention D. Koumontzis as forward for Edina...so he is officially returning from Arz for '17-18 at EHS than off to GB Gamblers for '18-19? At least thats what Ive heard...maybe S. Walker convinced him to return to 'The Bubble' for a title run. They'll need Sammy t...
