Last year's #'s are meaningless. This rule did not apply last year. Like I said before, lots of actions have unintended consequences. Time will tell on this one Meaningless? There was no checking in squirts last year, and only 3 girls from EP played squirts - the rest played 10U. I cannot for the l...

Minnesota's hockey culture is much different from what you see in competitive youth soccer. Girls are separated out by age 9 and are never seen playing with boys past age 11. Minnesota has enough girls playing youth hockey. A cultural shift that saw travel coaches cut all girls that try out would e...

Immediate off-sides does teach puck control. If you have a forechecker coming at you, you have to create time and space by either passing the puck more moving your feet. If you move your feet you buy time for your team mates to get out of the o-zone so you then can pass it to them. We I played yout...

Re: Summer?
Is it just me that finds it odd that 11 programs still haven't named a coach. The summer contact period has started, and is critical to the development of a program. I would say it would be a big disadvantage to not have a staff in place to run a summer program. May have something to do with no sta...

I fail to see how changing the checking schedule makes hockey harder or easier. As in all sports the degree of difficulty is determined by your opponent. If we agree that better competition makes you a better player, then we should all want better competition. USA Hockey's proposal is an attempt to ...

luckyEP, In making the assumption you are from Eden Prarie, have you seen your Bantam A team lately? Many players on that team (and others) are great skaters, great playmakers, and they know how to check to gain advantage. Checking in peewees hasn't seemed to be a deterent to their development. Bet...

This is not about safety. The original purpose of the proposed change was to promote development. As crusaders are like to do, proponents of the rule change began searching for evidence to support their cause. It was then that they stumbled across the concussion data and the Canada checking report....

Totally agree. Now the picture is so confused that nobody really knows what they want and worst of all nobody really trusts them to be after what they say they want. I think they need to scrap it and start over. Come out with a unified (not a Facebook advertisement of what they want to ram through)...

Re: AP Player of Year: Minnetonka goalie Julie Friend
My sister played with Friend in some all-star tourney after the high school season had ended, apparently when she doesn't have the Tonka defense in front of her she's not all that she's cracked up to be. Imagine that, huh... Gee, goalies play better when they know what to expect from their defensem...

Re: Openings 11-12
I don't want to be the board mediator here, but would it be possible to move the EP talk to another topic, like the "EP" one I brought to the top, so those who don't care about it, don't need to see it when we bring up the coach opening topic, as it's not open, and most likely won't be th...

Before I would answer the question, I would ask why girl’s hockey is the sport that has the most players suffering concussions of any sport played. As we all know, girl’s hockey bans physical checking at all levels. I think the main reason for that is because girls are more willing to take risks an...

Re: Top 75
And, I seem to remember a Bloomington Lincoln school that was pretty darn good too. I know they made it to state at least once in the 70's and had many good teams after that. Good thing that back in the 70's,80's, and 90's that Bloomington wasn't just one school!!! That would be a crime. I look at ...

Re: Top 75
I am still completely failing to understand the point about weighting the AA achievements of teams small enough to be in A as if they were A achievements. Are you trying to say their achievements should not be judged based on who they beat? Duluth East getting 2nd place this year by beating Edina, ...

Re: Top 75
It's amazing how accurate and right these rankings seem to be. This is a fun list and brings back memories of these great teams, their players & coaches and their state tournament successes. The final four must be 1. Edina/Edina East, 2. Roseau, 3. Jefferson, 4. Hill-Murray. Close, but I think ...

Even under this scenario--which I expect everyone will agree is over-optimistic about what a number of these teams could have achieved--Class A schools won 17/80 possible trips to state. That's 21.25%--a figure substantially lower than the .36 Lee used. If you assume that class A teams win 21.25% o...

Class A points were calculated at 36% of Class AA points. The 0.36 I came up with was the result of comparing the PageStat ratings of every Class A team to every Class AA team over the past eleven years. This was a huge sampling of over 83,000 comparisons and gave me a certain amount of confidence....

Yes I was and I stand by what I said. The 12 U A team was average at best and the 12 U B team did not win a handful of games. EP's 12 U A team consisted of half first years including 2 first year goalies. The core of the first year parents maintain they will make the jump if the rules changes. The ...
