The Edina Squirt program as a whole is extremely healthy with 13 teams, up from 9 just a few years ago. They have made a conscious effort to have more teams at the A and B levels ( 2 and 6, as opposed to 1 and 4 in recent years)' resulting in slightly lesser results than in previous years. Time will...

Squirt ref. Very young. It was the second obvious missed off side on that shift. Had a civil word after the game in the handshake line and said he had to call that one, and he came up with that explanation. I was bemused, to say the least.... The good news is that we didn't lose the game because of ...

Thanks for all the info, ref22. One more for you. Puck is cleared from inside to 6' outside blue line by defending team where it hits ref, then bounces back inside directly to offensive team, who have yet to clear zone. No whistle is blown, and offensive team scores. Ref explains lack of whistle by ...

I'm not that concerned about the girls either, except for them having to put up with unethical parents and school staff. They aren't children anymore, but well on the way to being adults. They knew what was going on was wrong and an attempt to stack the deck in their favor. Good riddance to the whol...

I've seen 1,2,1,2,1,2,3 shifts for large parts of a season at the Squirt level. To me, that is flat out wrong. At the PWAA I can see unequal playing time in playoffs, though I still hate to see it. Definitely is OK when a goalie is pulled, though. At Bantam AA/A/B1 I can see specialty teams, especia...

So ILL has decided to completely cut off the bottom of the pyramid when it comes to participation numbers? Good luck with that. It's not hard. Look at the size of a Mite compared to a Midget. About half, right? Why not cut the ice in half, also? Money figures into it also. Here in MN they pay $160-2...

Harding arena in St. Paul is nippy. Old rink in Roseau. That crazy little rink in Fargo (SunMart?) by the train tracks with all the religious stuff on the walls. MacDonald arena on the old McGill campus in Montreal. Numerous rinks in northern Canada... One in Elliot Lake sticks out, as does another ...

I take what I need and leave the rest. Some of it is pretty silly, IMO, and designed to drawn in players from non hockey markets. My experience with the full ice 5 on 5 for Mites differs from some of the above posters. I find the strong players dominate the puck more in that format, and the lesser s...

I don't know what constitutes Boarding right now. It seems to me that it is called if the person being hit falls into the boards rather than stays upright or semi upright? I am seeing it called in some games and not in others. Keep in mind that I am not talking about hitting from behind, targeting t...

Two things- as time goes on, PDF's tend to suffer. Word gets around about what a PITA they are, and coaches would rather take a player with lesser talent but good attitude. Was In a Tourney recently with my fun, but under talented team. We ended up playing against a more talented team that had beat ...

If a stick is slashed out of an opposing players hand (very obvious, strong slash) but no contact with the players body is made then is it a penalty? I know they call it most times in the NHL now, but never used to. Yes, it is a penalty. The purpose of the stick is only to play the puck. Thought so...

Carolina looked very good. Medium sized, quite fast. What stuck out about them was their passing, discipline, and puck support. Coach told me that one of their weaknesses was goal scoring. Over the weekend the only team that beat them was Tonka. I think a top MN AA team will be at the same level,espe...

Back to the original topic, just met a Dad whose son is with the 99 AAA Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. They are playing Stillwater, Buffalo, Tonka, and Edina BAA this weekend. They are no joke....ranked #6 or 7 nationally, and the head coach is a former Mr. Hockey, ably assisted by a certain Rob Brind'amo...
