IMO, this idea that closed tryouts are warranted to take the pressure off of the kids is just perpetuating the trend to over shelter them from the real world and results in the loss of a prime teaching opportunity in dealing with pressure. I can maybe see it at Squirts but not at Pewees or Bantams. ...

Re: Northern Educate
Yes, i can see your point, however Achiever Academy will not be a recruiting powerhouse for some time. I say give this team a chance, and if they become a force in the A level, move them up to AA and let them compete. Don't bash this school because it is new and different. Or go ahead and bash it, ...

At $1,300 - $1,500 for association hockey, would that be due to non-parent coach salaries? Bob, according to my family who lives in suburban Minneapolis, MN area and has hockey playing boys the main difference in our association costs in WI and the ones the folks in MN pay are the salaries to paid ...

I like the idea of a AAA winter league. I feel we should be free to play wherever we want and find the best hockey that is appropriate for our child's interest and skill level. It really sucks to be in an association that sucks and has no real desire to not suck. I shouldn't need to sell my house a...

Remember northern MN has some great hockey players, some of which can out play any kid on both the machine and blades. But proximity keeps them from playing on the brick team. The 25 June practices requirement will keep the top end Northern kids out of playing for "TEAM MINNESOTA", unless of course...

Interesting topic so far. All of the companies that you have mentioned are good. There are several things that you do need to know though in order to do your job in developing your goalie. First, the best coaching that your kid will get will be from his own team mates. He will receive coaching tips...

Mn Flames (St. Cloud) Each level sets their own schedule. 99s last year: About 25 hrs of practice and dryland. 5 scrimmages. 1 mini tournament (4 teams) 3 tournaments. About $750-800 It's too bad that there's not more programs like this out there for the kids that want to play traveling baseball. I...

Re: WBL A Coaches
Some dad with a grudge because his kid doesn't make the A Peewee team his 1st year gets himself elected Traveling Director of the WBL Hockey Association and fires all the A coaches. Including probably one of the best coaches in youth hockey Scott Hambly the A Bantam coach and USA Select 15 coach......

Bo, I agree. What you have described is a localized issue with the association. Minnesota Hockey has an obligation to provide playing opportunities. I see them having a responsibility to provide an environment where all associations can be strong. It is a tall order if they are responsible for maki...
