... So, the differences should be in the algorithms... Yes, and I see nothing wrong with the fact that the three algorithms yield slightly different results. My favorite ranking is the average of LPH, QRF, and KRACH rankings, which is essentially a miniature multi-model ensemble. http://en.wikipedi...

Wins over Cloquet, Eagan and Chaska in the Eden Prarie Tourney to go along with a win over S St. Paul. Add that to the fact they play in one of the tougher conferences. Anoka should be ranked up there. Teams that may not be ranked out of this conference are very good-Andover, Blaine and Centennial ...

Come down hard, come down NOW-when sentiment is on the side of officials. Sit offending players for ten minutes, or throw them out. Do this often, do it too often, but do it now. If, and only if, the consequences are unilaterally severe will behavior change... Agree, and I'll add that for any chang...

I watched the video about 50 times. It's not possible for me to say for sure that she was hit from behind based on the video. Can't see it. The ref down by the goal line should have seen the play. I would have a hard time believing the linesman could see it much better than the video cam--he appeare...

Current newspaper articles on Hockey Safety
A worthwhile read:

Personally, I believe coaches in Minnesota should have to have an HQ (Hal Quotient) of 80 or higher to be able to coach the game.
Changed subject of thread, to include other news on topic of hockey safety.

The young lady hurt this weekend was in a no checking league. Accidents happen. Can you hit someone after a football is thrown yes (but not more than 2 steps and not in the head). Therefore charging. Accidents happen and the game is physical, not cheap. If that is not in your liking your son should...

Re: Rules changes for safety
Not to be cold, but...............1,000,000+ drive by my window anually and once every 3 years there is a accident (1 of 3MM) and sometimes someone gets hurt badly, but normally just a fender bender. Do we start arresting and pulling every one over who is 1 Mile over the speed limit? Slow down all ...

Re: Rules changes for safety
In my opinion, there need to be no rules "changes." The changes that need to occur are in enforcing the rules as written. This change must occur in many stages: 1. The refs calling the rules as written. 2. The coaches allowing the refs to call the rules as written. 3. Parents/supporters s...

...No checking behind the goal line... I strongly advocate cleaning up the game. I'm not sure that no checking behind the goal line is the way to do it. If the existing rules and standards were strictly enforced, that would go a long way toward solving the problem. I'm not sure any rule changes are...

Thank you for posting. The Strib story now has a video of the hit. I'm still numb from the Jablonski news. There was a lot of discussion on what to do about cleaning up the game on the boys high school hockey board, http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=32 . Aside from the fact that girls doe...

There is girl hockey and then there is boy hockey. Nothing is going to change there. This is an unfortunate freak accident that happened. Just like an unfortunate freak car accident. Illegal checks have gone on for years and years. It's not right but it's a part of hockey. The players need to be co...

I stand corrected (at least at the ncaa level). It is obvious that checking makes the game safer. There is checking in girls hockey at all levels, starting with U8's. Just not legal checking. I have two girls, both have had concussions, both from checks that are illegal in all hockey. One a ...

Agree with most everything that's being said in this thread. I hope people at all levels are inspired to clean up the game. You'll never completely remove risk, but you can greatly reduce it, and that should be the goal. I agree, but USA Hockey like most sports oversight bodies is slow to react and ...

Re: Injured Benilde hockey player
Strib reports about two players checking the JV player. Now he's paralyzed -- at least temporarily. Anyone know what penalties, if any, were given? Curious about the game circumstances leading up to the telling blow and how a repeat of such an incident might be avoided. Very scary. My thoughts are ...
