That is funny. And you registered for the Duluth tourney, not the Cloquet tourney, correct?hockeychopper wrote:Maybe staying in Cloquet is better since I believe we played 2 out of our 4 games there both before 8am, yet stayed in Duluth.

I love visiting Duluth, but everyone wants to go there. I think the Icebreaker tourney has gotten too big. If it's a 4-game guarantee, I'm pretty sure that's a new policy. Last year, we were three and out. Done by early afternoon on Saturday. Be prepared to ask your team to take Friday off of school...

Okay, I'm old-fashioned. It used to mean something to play for your local high school. It was a source of community pride 20 years ago to say your community had the best hockey team. All that has to be thrown out the window if you can just switch teams whenever you want. Maybe it just doesn't matte...

Some great thoughts already expressed. I think associations need to be more cost conscious, and conscious of the time commitment that youth hockey (at 10's and above) requires. Cost and time commitment are barriers to participation. But again, starting at the 4-8 age level with free or low-cost opti...

... Yes, there should be more interest (i.e., physical attendance) by hockey dads and hockey moms alike. ... so I'd say our dads are incredibly involved (not only attending games, but coaching and managing youth teams, serving on boards, etc.). .... sinbin, I agree with you on all counts. I want to...

I mentioned this in another thread, but it bears repeating. Part of the reason for poor attendance is bias by hockey dads. Some of the very individuals who encouraged--or allowed--their little Natalies to play the game are apathetic about the biggest thing for girls in this great State of Hockey: Th...

Well, Amy got a little recognition this weekend.Bandy wrote:...
Amy Peterson ranks above Bowman, Rooney, Menke, Flug, & Wolfe in KRAPPI. If anyone missed the mark, I'd say they missed it by not putting Amy anywhere in the top 3 lines. She's a great player who seldom gets the recognition she deserves...

A test of your assertion is to compute the KRAPPI rating for subsets of a players games. Using Amy Peterson from Minnetonka as an example. Compute here KRAPPI rating against BSM, Warroad, EP, Hill-Murray, Buffalo, Edina, Blake and Hopkins (13 games) and compare the result to games against Apple Val...

Bandy, I like your thoughtfulness on the SOS-adjusted PPG, but I think you need to come up with a better acronym than KRAPPI. Just sayin' . . . Not that KRACH is the best acronym, either, but just sayin' . . . Got something better? It came to me in a vision, and I didn't want to tempt fate. ...

...The days of a 9th grader slipping on the skates and giving it a try are long gone. Girls now start at 5 years old just like the boys. The only way to grow girls hockey participation numbers, no matter where your daughter lives and goes to school, is through recruiting 5 and 6 year old girls to y...

Good suggestion to de-politicize the seedings!hockeyfan21 wrote:I'm curious how many section seedings matched up exactly with KRACH rankings. Also, why don't the sections mandate that they just use KRACH so there isn't any malarkey at seeding meetings.

Lucky, that clears things up a little. Your comments were thought provoking--more than you might think at first glance. Yep, that's the problem. SOS uses the average of the KRACH rankings, not the average of the KRACH ratings. Rankings are qualitative measures. Then tell you team N is better than te...

Just to make sure we're on the same page, I use AVG (3rd column in http://www.bgoski.com/KRACH_SOS.htm). MV has an AVG SOS of 41.3; Benilde is 38.5. They're really similar SOS. EP has an AVG SOS of 19, so about twice as tough of a schedule as Benilde (lower AVG = tougher schedule). This is where I ...
