u14agoalie, sounds to me like you are making excuses. I would question if your weaker skaters with fresh legs could make any difference compared to your starters who are tired. Are you saying that your team made it to state without shortening the bench? And if not, are you then saying that you coul...

OntheEdge flat out gets it! The physical side of the girl's game will be discussed this summer at MN Hockey & Districts statewide. The girl's game is no longer a love fest! Let it evolve! Crying, shortening the bench, etc.......I hope you are not serious 17! Play to develop & win! You can d...

Phish, I guess our opinions differ on what is the purpose of the state tournament. I don't agree that it is designed to crown the best team at each level. That's just a side effect. The purpose of the tournament is to promote youth hockey in Minnesota. The important thing about youth hockey is that ...

What's wrong with a simple rule that says: If you don't field an A team, your B team cannot play beyond Districts? That way the top "true B" teams move on to Regionals and State. End of controversy. It would then be a choice each association must make: Field an A team and finish middle or...

Maybe Edina learned something at the boys AA tournament this year. The last few years Edina HS boys played with a short bench to get the most benefit from a select few "greats". The were selected to win, but didn't bring home a championship. This year we saw more even playing times with su...

BTW - the 2 A team scenario is not a good idea. Edina last year and other associations past and present found out that playing upper and lower A teams retards the hockey growth of the players. They learn to dump and chase to stay with teams, the puck control lacks significantly because the speed &a...

Eden Praire clearly has some A-calibur players playing at B. Why don't you suggest they create 2 A teams and one B team....if you think it's good to field a watered down A team I had to give credit to Edina last year for fielding two 12A teams. I would like to see that trend continue. We don't quit...

I don't mean to be disrespectful to any players, but wouldn't this whole discussion about playing A or B be avoided if there were no state tournament for B teams. If the purpose of the state tournament is to recognize the best teams at an age level (maybe this isn't the purpose?) then there is no n...

Eden Prairie defeated Edina in overtime to win the U12A championship. Anyone watching would agree the game could have gone either way. EP scored on a couple of fast breakaways that caught Edina flat footed. Edina's tough defence prevented EP from mounting any kind of attack during most the first two...

The divide between boys and girls hockey is shrinking. There are several u12A teams that would crush any peewee C team I've seen and give most B teams a good game. And the girls I see coming from boys teams don't have any advantage over girls who always played on girl teams. If you don't think girl'...

If last year's 12UB banquet at Breezy Point is a guide, having the parents and families in attendance added to the experience for the girls, coaches, and managers. Hopefully they'll have a better speaker. It was bad enough that he was unbelievably boring, but the self promoting made it very hard to...

I'm only observing here so don't get your undies in a bunch here Tartan fans. Did anyone see the Champlin Park vs. Tartan game on Sunday morning, CP won 2-0. Is it possible that Tartan 'threw' this game in order to stay out of the lower bracket and not have to play the Woodbury Blue or Pequot (Nort...

I see no value. Only because it creates systematic play that lacks creativity. It is the same type of coaching that demands their wingers go north & south and always stay wide. The same coaching that requires the defense stay on the points and not be part of the offense. Girls need to expand on...

EP's main weakness may be too many strong players. They can play poor team hockey and still win. It was nice to see St. Cloud give them a wake up call. Maybe we'll see a pass in the offensive zone sometime soon.

If your daughter's 10U team spends a minute of practice on PP & PK you should give your coach a slap. I'll give you the secret of a good PP that you can pass on to the coach...have the girls play with their heads up and make plays. Any and every line can do it at that age level. So you see no v...

Re: Clash of the 12UA Titans: Edina v Eden Prairie

It was after my daughter's practice so we stayed around and watched. Forgot how fast the girls game can be. Either team would give the EP JV team a good game. Hate to say it but Edina may have had the best player on the ice. Fast and great stickhandling. Sorry but my memory is bad when it comes to n...
