Another topic beaten to death, but fun.
Aldrich is one of the best. Let's exclude the Xcel and Marriucci. What arena could compare to those two in Minnesota?

I love my home teams rink the IRA. Hibbing is fun because I've watched so many play off games there, lots of good memories, hmm, lots of bad ones too. Actually, I've watched Rapids there in the playoffs like 8 times and they've won 2 of those 8.

1993 loss in OT to Denfeld
1994 win over Denfeld 9-0?
1995 loss to Greenway 2-1 GR outshoots 56-14.
1997 win over Hibbing 3-2
1998 loss to East 2-0
1999 loss to Hibbing 2-1 in 3 OT's.
2000 loss to Hibbing 3-2
2005 loss to CEC 5-1

Also watched I Falls beat Hermantown in OT in the 7A title game a few years back and last season watched Virginia swamp Silver Bay.

Sorry for the history lesson but I was thinking outloud.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>GR19 at: 12/4/05 10:25 pm

Burnsville's main rink. Wooded barrel ceiling, seating on both sides, good lighting, comfortable temperature.

Besides the excel which is used one week for highschool games I would say TRF i believe that was made by Ralph. Its the nicest highschool rink in the state.

Alrdich is one of the best to play in....lots of seats, neutrally based so a lot of people come, decent ice, and low glass(more passing and less "chips" off the glass) And a good place for rowdy students to chant and yell

I think Hastings has a beautiful arena. The wood ceiling and the old wooden bleachers are great!

Bloomington Ice Gardens Rink 1, seating close to the ice allows the fans to be close to the action (jefferson fan actually took an eastview kids stick last year)...overall great atmosphere...rich in tradition as well (Old scoreboard still on wall although it never is on) also has very good ice to skate on...

Unfortunately, I haven't made it up to any of the arenas up north.

For the metro area, I'd have to say Aldrich, with Braemar a close 2nd. The sight lines on almost every seat in the house are good, the seats are plentiful, they've got an organ that they use for some of the bigger games and the parking's good. While Braemar's got the atmosphere, seats and sightlines, it has a more cramped feel to it and the parking can be messy, but I'm being picky. Other good metro arenas are the BIG, Richfield, Roseville, Hastings, New Hope, Woodbury. Not so good are St.Louis Park (if I remember right it has a beam or something on the red line that ruins a lot of the sight lines) and Centennial (it's rather small). Eden Prairie and Apple Valley are among the worst, with walkways between the ice and the stands and at Eden Prairie a single entrance and lousy parking.

elliot, what's the deal with the HS playing at Nymore anyway? When I did my coaching practicum there we had practice at Nymore and played all the games at the Fieldhouse. Has the college grown too important that they won't allow the HS to play there or is it the Women's hockey or what. Frankly, my opinion of Nymore is that it's a dump for spectators but the players like it because the ice is hard and they don't roast. Thank God for the Corner down the street or it would have no redeeming qualities.

Hibbing Memorial Arena

I have to say that this rink as the best to play at. Feel like the chicago blackhawks when u walk up the stairs from the lockerrooms. And the seating on both sides makes it great too.

How about Greenways arena, its usually a pretty god atmosphere, but probably not this year. I like the catwalk for the goal judge.

Best Arena

I think roseville is right up with aldrich or richfield. If roseville had better rink boards it may be even better. The coliseum has my vote for worst place for hs hockey. Too bad so many sections finals are played at that place.

To watch a game, Nymore is great becasue you can stand along the boards. You can move to what ever end to watch offense or D or a specific goalie.

City rink (Nielsen) does not host high schol games.

As far as amenities - zilch, bathrooms are small and smell, stairs to the lobby are steep, concessions offer the usual plus a little BUT...

...to watch a game it is great - you can hear the coaches, the players and the refs. You can feel the checks and the puck is coming right at you.

The HS plays there because BSU's John Gals is not always available and I think the players like Nymore becasue of the ice and it is their home rink.

And the Corner is within walking distance.

The new arena in cloquet is nice but can never replace the barn for the atmosphere of a high school hockey game.
