Elk River/Anoka

Post by Grinder075 »

These two teams meet tonight at Elk River. Elk River is coming off a very big overtime win, and Anoka is coming off a dissapointing third period meltdown in which they were ahead 4-3 and lost 9-6 to Osseo. Peterson, and Martell for Elk River grew up playing in Anoka throughout youth hockey. Should be an exciting game, but Elk River seems to be the highly favored team. Can Anoka walk away with a win tonight?

ER To The House

Post by EREmpireStrikesBack »

You know who I think/want to win, but Anoka is a very good team even though the Osseo game score says differently. This will be a great game with both teams being very solid. I'd predict them & Blaine to be 1, 2, 3 in the NWSC.

Go Elks!

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

Are you serious. Anoka really isn't that good. peterson & martell obviously made the right decision coming to ER, because now they are learning how to become winners.
Empire, if your going to continue to talk up other teams (such as anoka) please take the er off of your name. We all know your from rogers anyways.
In memory of verb1999!

Don't Try That

Post by EREmpireStrikesBack »

I'm from Rogers? Went there, but not from there so don't try pulling that stuff on me.

And Anoka will be better than people think. ER is and always will be #1 with me, so don't say crap like what you did. I can be all ER all the time, but what's the point in that? Then I'd be just like you.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

The final was 4-1 elk river, but anoka played very sloppy throughout the game. Personally I did not think Elk River looked very good as well. They didn't look to be anywhere close to a top 10 team. Elk River had around 25 shots to roughly 15-20 for anoka. Very small team for the Elks this year. Anoka hit some pipes, and missed on some good chances. It's gonna be exciting watching this section play at the end with Blaine,Elk River,Osseo,Maple Grove,Wayzata, and Anoka all possible section winners!

Actually, the MSHSL moved ER into 7AA. Elk River has to compete with Duluth East, Cloquet-E-C, Grand Rapids, and Forest Lake.

You forgot about Brainerd, there GR19. Im sure it just slipped your mind, right. O and by the way, Brainerd is ranked 10th in the state right now, and GR is ranked 14th. Just an observation.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... slife19 at: 12/10/05 11:33 pm

Well, let Tuesday's game decide who is the better team. I am still confused what inspired those voters to make Brainerd #10. I understand droping GR a bit because of the loss to a very good Virginia team. But Brainerd doesn't have any WOW type of win. And they lost to Forest Lake.

JLS 81, you got something to say, I'll let you know when I'll be at the IRA and you can say it to my face.

Haha, I love the whole my team is ranked #8 and yours is #27 so my team is better than yours. ER This Year

Post by EREmpireStrikesBack »

Haven't gotten to watch them yet, but from the reports I've been getting I'd say they are about on par with the last two years. Obviously '99, '00 & '01 were pretty damn good. I'd say they might be the weakest of the past 3 years, but not too shabby at all. If they were in 4AA again, I'm nearly positive that they would be returning to State, but in 7AA it will definitely be harder.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

elks

Post by stickplayer »

Im pretty sure Elk River dominated Anoka the other day shots were 34-13 final and Anoka hit one pipe and didnt have many scoring chances. Elk River however hit 2 pipes and had a goal disallowed. Overall I think Elk River will be toward the top this year in the confrence with maple grove blaine and cenntenial. not Anoka.

both teams played pretty poorly, both hit pipes and both missed some pretty easy shots. however anoka looked like a total joke, towards the end they werent even skating hard like they wanted to be out there. they do have some decent size but they didnt look like they have any scorers, at least nobody stepped up during this game.

Anoka has 2 sophomore forwards (19 & 29), one freshman forward (9) and one sophomore D (26) skating on their top 2 lines...they are a very young team that will only get better with time. Also, I'm not sure how good you eyesight is cause 19 missed a breakaway after he blew by the ER defenders and 29 created several odd man rush scoring chances with his speed...including the ER penalty which resulted in PP Anoka's goal.

For ER, 7 and 15 are excellent junior D, no doubt, but your remaining top players are mostly seniors...so you better get going on recruiting very soon...because its going to be pretty quiet at the ER Arena in a couple years...when these young Anoka guys put the Elks on running time - LOL!

shots

Post by Grinder075 »

Have you ever played at elk river? I'm guessing not because for every 3 shots you get, they put up 1 and for every shot elk river gets they put up 3. Trust me the shots were not that. Elk River had around 25 and anoka had around 15. And the pipe issue... Elk river's pipes were pucks that hit the side of the net from corners, ANOKA's was a inside crossbar corner that bounced straight down and out. There is a difference. Elk River was the better team as I and everyone else viewed, but they are a smaller team, and not as good as years past.

Quote:
but your remaining top players are mostly seniors

As I have said before. After this year, it will be interesting to see how the Elks do. I think the split affected the sports programs a lot more than people expected, at least this quickly. If anyone saw what happened to the football team this year, this is the kind of thing that ER can expect with most of its sports in the upcoming years. Eventually they will rebound some, but I highly doubt we will ever see the '98-'01 types of teams again.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls

PIPES

Post by ELKSHOCKEY »

so last time i played hockey (which was recent) pipes didnt count towards the score. so im sure they didnt matter. also one of the pipes for ER actually hit on the inside between the padding and the pipe cause i hit it. And the penalty that Anoka scored on was caused from one of our players pointing to the scoreboard at the 4-0 score so no one from anoka had anything to do with that.

ER seniors

Post by NeedsMoreCowbell »

hey BobbyOrrFan, i'm not sure if you've noticed, but ER has made quite a better living than Anoka the past few seasons sending their teams to the big dance, and they've done it with a LARGE SENIOR CLASS each year. lucky for 4aa they don't have to sweat the Elks for awhile...until MSHSL decides to bump ER around again.

shots

Post by stickplayer »

I think that grider is pretty upset about his anoka team this year because he comes on here and tries to make them sound like they played awsome and it was a close game. Oh and i have played at elk river. and im pretty sure they dont add 3 shots for everyone they get because they would have got out shot by anoka if i did my math right. And they penalty was unsportsmanlike not a trip or hook because of any anoka player doing anything.

Martell pointed at the scoreboard in another players face after play had stopped, which is what the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty came from.

penalty call

Post by BobbyOrrfan »

#20 for ER got the penalty for high sticking on the back check...following an Anoka rush...Anoka then scored a power play goal with about 5 minutes to go...#15 may have also got a penalty for pointing at the scoreboard at some point...but it did not result in Anoka's goal. ER has the upper hand for now...that will change in the future. I will say that the atmosphere and fans at ER Arena were great and ER has a strong team this year led by Malzan, Peterson, Martel & Slavick...but the clock is ticking...and Anoka's day will come.
