Hockey now vs. then

Post by Minolta »

I have been noticing this year that the quality of good hockey in teams is done from the past few years. So far, i've only seen a few games but when i saw the Hill-WBL this year, dont get me wrong there are some quality players on both teams, the hockey wasn't impressive considering Hill and WBL are both rated in the top 5 in state (or top 10). If you took one of those teams and played a top 5 team from the past few years, they would get beat by at least 3 goals. Im not bringing down the state of hockey, I still think High School hockey in Minnesota is still the best, but it just seems like this year is a down year for hockey, except of AHA (no i didnt play for AHA). Just wondering what everyone else thinks about this?

I think its way too early in the year to make that assesment. Teams are still working out line combinations and haven't had time to learn to play together and get into hockey shape. The quality of play is always higher in February & March than it is in November & December. There does seem to be more parody around the state this year though, in both classes.

I agree. Look for teams with good coaching to improve as the season goes on. Grand Rapids and Duluth East have a lot of young players, and both teams have good coaching. There certainly seems to be more parody. In 7AA I think there are potentially 6 teams that could reach state. To be honest, I feel Cloquet is probably the hottest team currently and have all the ingredients to go to St. Paul and do some damage. That does not mean CEC should be currently seeded higher, but they seem to be currently the most solid.

Then you look at 7A, and I Falls gave Virginia a scare. I think most people thought it was a 3 team race but now you have to throw the Broncos in there for playing Virginia so close. The semi-finals in 7A and 7AA will be unbelievably competitive this season.

I am sorry, but isn't the word supposed to be parity?

Main Entry: 1par·i·ty
Pronunciation: 'par-&-tE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ties
Etymology: Latin paritas, from par equal
1 : the quality or state of being equal or equivalent

not parody

Main Entry: 1par·o·dy
Pronunciation: 'par-&-dE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -dies
Etymology: Latin parodia, from Greek parOidia, from para- + aidein to sing -- more at ODE
1 : a literary or musical work in which the style of an author or work is closely imitated for comic effect or in ridicule

what?

GR19 if thats how you think they should seed teams, by how close they play each other like your example of Ifalls and Virginia than you might as well say that about section 8a...since people believe that its going to be a race between EGF TRF and Warroad than you might as well put Park Rapids in the running as well since they BEAT EGF....Your reasoning sounds a bit ludacris, teams have off games

Yes, hawkfan, I meant parity. I guess I didn't take the time to proofread my post. Although, Lee makes a good point.

Hawkfan,
Ranger made a great point, and their was no need to get into the spelling of P-A-R-I-T-Y. Get a life or find a new board to post your dictionary threads on. This is hockey talk, not your 11th grade English class at Chaska.

Yes, and teams have off games in the playoffs. But one thing you have to look at is what a huge boost of confidence that must have been for I Falls. Games like that can inspire teams to play above their heads.

I agree about the Hill, White Bear Lake game. Both teams did not look too sharp that night. Hockey may be done a little this year.

But then again watching Moorhead play I believe maybe it wont be a down year. Both Moorhead and Duluth East looked sharp this weekend.

One reason the Hill game may have not been that good is because its still pretty early in the season.
