sam buttwieler has no shot at even being nominated he plays for a st. cloud tech team that was only decent do to charlie doth there goalie they had no fire power at all.
as for the real mr. hockey that would be Jay Barribal from Holy Angels this kid is amazing he took it to moorhead in the championship last year, the only kid that I have seen get around Brian Lee, very fast skater and a snipper the gophers are lucky to have him.

Common Sense

Post by Hckyfanatic »

the way i like to base it which is of course only pre season but is the best thing you can go by before the season starts is the elite league because i although this league maybe junk its got good players and if they weren't in this league what can you possibly be relying on. Although this may all change during the season some one gets hurt or just doesn't show up their senior year this is what I am basing it on right now so enough with the central minnesota kids, no one has ever heard of. How bout some kids like Fulton, Arrigoni, Grun, Peterson, Canzanello, Fischer, Indreiden, LaBombard, and please stop promotin your own guys like 3 from eastview.

based upon previous years, the forerunner has to be who ever had the best junior year, who comes into the season with the most hype and who has the best press agent. The performance during the regular season really doesn't have anything to do with it like it did 5-6 years ago. I'm going with barribal. Not saying he doesn't deserve it because I think he is the best. but he does already have the first 2 criteria, so lets give it to him now.

What do you mean he doesn't deserve it?
The winner has forever been someone who ends up playing at the U. Not always but look at the past. Barriball will be at the U in 2007, he has the skills and the experience. I am voting for him.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Nick Oslund from Burnsville has 5 goals, 12 points in his first 4 games. At three points a games, playing in a conference with some depth to the teams, maybe he might be an early front runner.

Are you telling us that since this kid already has 12pts in 4 games, that he can continue this throughout the season? Plus, the Mr. Hockey Award usually goes to someone on one of the very top teams in the state....sorry guys that have 5 cities on there team.....either grun or barriball

Mr. Hockey 2006

Post by Ibleedgreen »

i say we let them play and see what kind of season they all have. it's shouldn't be about what you did last year, whose pumping you up this year, or who writes you should get the award before a game is ever played. it shouldn't be about reputation because some clearly get a reputation from constant promotion. how about we let the eventual recipient earn the award throughout the season and decide in the end based on all the criteria of the mr. hockey award.

oslund should be a contender

Post by sloppyice »

Unlike many of the other names posted, Oslund doesn't have the supporting cast. He has great strength, good speed, and excellent shot and practices good spacing on the ice. He has the ability to disrupt any offense and will proably be shadowed the entire season.

Put him on a team with a stong line and he would rack up the points and be in the top 3.

Mr Hockey -Fischer

Post by hockey1964 »

I saw Chaska - Apple Valley Saturday. Chaska took too many penalties, but it was obvious...Best player on the ice was Fischer. Dominated the game.

2 goals..the second of which he put a move on the D and walked in and nice backhand move...very smooth. He seems to never leave the ice but AV doesn't have much offense without him. Looked up his stats 4 goals in 5 games for a very defensive minded team. Gets my vote if I had one.

Mr. Hockey

Jay Barriball of Holy Angels will win it, without a doubt. He is committed to the U for 2007, but the only reason they are making him play juniors is because he is 5'7'' 140. In his first USHL game this year for the Sioux Falls Stampede, he had 2g and 1a as they won 3-1. He was player of the week. He will also play for Sioux Falls after his season is over. All of you so called High School hockey lovers should be falling over about a kid like Jay, as he chose to stay in high school so that he could captain his team for a second year in a row, to try and return them to the state tournament. As a junior last year he was first line all state, and both of his linemates are back for this year. Another thing that people are forgetting, is that it is less common for a defensemen to win Mr. hockey, especially when there is a dominant forward such as Jay. The only thing working against him is that he goes to a privfate school, but I feel that he is most deserving to win Mr. Hockey this year.

kdavis20 -

fyi- staying in high school is a no-brainer for barriball. any kid that has been given the opportunities that he has and belongs to a winning program with a great coach like trebil would be foolish to leave high school to move up his college career a year.

i've said it before but the recipient of the mr. hockey award should earn it this season on the ice. it should have nothing to do with hype from coaches or performances from past seasons. unfortunately i suspect that a top 10 finalist list is already a foregone conclusion with 2 or 3 players already having the upper hand. good luck to all that are deserving of consideration but let's not jump to name a recipient before most of the games are played and the phantom assists help to bolster a player's stats.

Mr hockey

Post by hockey1964 »

I agree to let it play out. I was just noting Fischer is off to a good start. Scoring as a Defensemen, centers on the power play, controls the game. At least the ones I have seen.

kdavis - Fischer also stayed with his high school after being offered a spot on the NDT. He will also be a Gopher.

I think the Mr. Hockey may have the forwards bias similar to the Heisman when they look at RB's and QB's. It was refreshing to see a Defensemen on a team with not great offense control a game as he did and score to boot.

I saw Baribal play Elite League - yes he is very good too. Its early...good luck to all the players.

Hockey1964 do you mean NTDP? Because if you are, you are out of your mind. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I personally know people at NTDP and there is no way Fisher could play on that team and even be their worst defensemen. Fisher is not as good as any of the NTDP defensemen and I believe that he did not get an invite to tryout for NTDP two years ago. Also he did not get invited to join the team this year as the only two that were invited to do that were Forward Tony Mosey and Defensemen Nigel Williams, they both accepted. So gets your facts about Fisher right.

Fischer was invited to tryout this spring in Ann Arbor for the NTDP. He was one of five 88's there trying out for the U-18 team along with 40 89's trying out for the U-17 team.Taylor Mattson was also an 88 trying out. Fischer started the tryout at D and after the first day was asked to move up to forward. He was then offered the spot on the U-18 team as a forward. He turned them down because he felt that his future was as a defenseman. The NTDP decided that they didn't want any of the other 88's at the tryout and offered Tony Mosey the spot, who then accepted. Don't believe me? Here as a linked to prove it.

MN Hockey Journal Article
Look at the top of the 2nd paragraph.
