joeGOPHER...I put the whole FSN schedule on an earlier post, it should be on the first couple pages.

About the game, HM's goalie had one of the best saves I've seen in a long time...I was in awe. Great game all around, WBL was in control for most of the first period but HM seemed to put their game together and even it out. I think HM had a couple more quality scoring opps than WBL, but pretty much an even game. Good job to both teams.

WBL HILL

Post by brickwall33 » Tue Dec 06, 2005 11:00 pm

I think Hill played better defensivly that people expected. Hill's defense were very calm and moved the puck very well. I would rate them at least equal with White Bear's. Hill's top 4 defenseman were very strong. The suprise to me was the play of Phillippi. He played with the poise of a veteran. He played very calm. This game could have went either way. The game was very defensive minded. From what I saw the only line that put on pressure for Hill was the Hoeffel, Skarda, Larson line. The key to a future matchup is that with Arrigoni back on the second line, would have two lines that could put on pressure.

The game was fairly even. White Bear was physical as expected. Hill threw their weight around also, which I did not expect to happen. The game was sloppy at times, but really never lacked excitement. Both teams had strong spurts where they put on pressure. Very even game. The goal Faust let up was fairly soft. Watching the replay, if that didnt hit Faust's glove I feel it may have gone wide.

I look forward to a rematch at the Colliseium later this year!

Wow, fun game to be at! I got there at about 7:45 and had to drive around for awhile to find a place to park, the lots were completely full. It was pretty much SRO, so we stood for the first two periods but then my son got tired so we found a spot right next to the glass on the Hill side.

Things were a bit sloppy especially in the first period probably because both teams were pretty amped up. With the TV and the crowd it had a playoff atmosphere and this early in the season you can't expect play to be as crisp as it will be later. Still these teams really went at it without letting up.

For me the difference may have been in goaltending, Philippi made a great save to rob Grun and Faust couldn't quite make the stop on a shot that he probably should have had. It's a long season though and come late February this game will be a memory as these teams will likely square off again with more at stake. It was a great way to start the season though.

not the game winning goal-just overall effort- being picked for awards means little at the next level, especially for a goalie on a team that wins most games with few shots. I wish him well but he plays on a team that hides most of his errors.

wow, stop talking. Faust is a great goalie, he only let in one goal. His GAA was under two last year, and yes he has let in some soft goals, but what goalie at any level hasnt let in a soft goal. Also WBL normally does have a tremendous defense which makes things easier on faust.

Quote:
just overall effort

did he let in a rebound goal? so you dont have an argument there until it actually happends
The curse lives on.....

Well I'm glad I decided to go instead of taking my sick rear home to watch on the couch. I knew it would be a good night when the JV game ended up being a thriller. Hill had a 3-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the third period only to give up a powerplay goal and then 20 seconds later take two penalties on the same play and give WBL a 5 on 3 advantage to finish the game. Hill ended up hanging on 3-2.

WBL really came out and hit Hill in the first period and I think outplayed Hill. How H-M had the advantage in shots in that period is beyond me. I thought H-M had a real hard time clearing their zone as WBL had a great forecheck and was using their size. I think the total opposite happened in the second as Hill came out and played a very good period. Not sure on the shots, but I thought they carried the play to WBL and figured out how to clear their zone. The third was very even with the one unconscious save by Philippi on the power play and then the wide shot on the breakaway. I thought the third period was very even. This is a good thing for me to see as a Pioneer fan because the fact is we've been a step below WBL the last 4 years.

My fact of the night, through 3 games, Hill has given up 1 goal. Through 2 games, WBL has given up one goal (and is 1-1). Hill may very well be 17-0 come Jan 21st and Holy Angels.

It was a very exciting game, the goal that Faust let in was not a good goal, but hey @#%$ happens it happens to everyone. Phillippi I thought played very well, but Grun should have had that goal in the third he shot it on the ice almost in the middle of the net, don't get me wrong phillippi made a great save but Grun should have put that away. congrats to Hill on the win.

Had this game on at the Peanut Farm Sports Grill in Anchorage on a 10' projection screen. It was an entertaining game for those that appreciate good defense and goaltending. Obviously the high scoring games are fun. What a nice save by the Hill Murray kid on that cross zone pass on the PP. The WBL kid shoulda got that one up a little bit. Oh well.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hs>GR19 at: 12/6/05 11:56 pm

Everything I have read on here so far as been true. Little Phillippi played great. It reminded me of the Hill/Moorhead game last season. Great play by both teams. Yeah Grun should have got that shot up a couple inches, but ohh well that is hockey. That is why it is such a great game.(hill/wb). Hoeffels got was lucky...Faust had it in his glove then lost it and it trickled in...but oh well. We can only wait for later in the season when the rematch comes around. It was a great atmosphere.....Nice job Pioneers!!

Good post, if everyone before talking about how Grun has to get that shot up, then Hoeffel had several fairly good chances to bury some more goals, and Skarda could've netted a wide open net but fanned on it, if these people are trying to get at it could've been a tie if Grun would've got the puck up then u have to consider all the missed opportunites for hill, which easily could've yielded a 3 or 4 to 1 game.

Great game Pioneers
McCallum was easily the most composed and smooth player on the ice tonite as well

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... enKid21 at: 12/7/05 12:55 am

While he didn't have any assists or goals he creates space and breakout opportunities everytime he touches the puck. Just because he wasn't rushing the puck up everytime and blowing past the WBL team don't say he didnt do anything. Rarely gets beat, always comes out of the corner with the puck, and Hill's offensive rush starts everytime with McCallum moving it up. What game were u watching btw Grizz

WBL's top line of Grun, Roth, and Kovacs was shut out, and who was Lechner matching up against that line all night, not Hill's top forward line, but Hill's top D line of McCallum and Guentzl.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... enKid21 at: 12/7/05 12:59 am

I agree with the GREEN BREW MAN....Every time #9 touched the puck in the defensive zone, he created space...his ability to counter on a defenders forecheck opened up the break out....that last part was true as well...Lechner had Hill's third and fourth line out there against WB's top line, with Mcallum and Leir, or Guentzel. I am suprised that no one has complained about the lack of ice time that Pryor got in the game. I will not be the one to complain....(nothing against the kid)

That is true, I do not care how old you are if you have a verbal committment to play D-1 hockey you should be able to play in situations like this. I did not even notice he was out there. McCallum was Hill's best player out there. FSN should have mentioned he also is a future gopher for baseball. They mentioned Hoeffel and Grun's plans about a thousand times.
