I think they will be pretty good, They have that great foward in GRUN, and they are returning the goaltender, Zach Faust, and they have a bunch of young players returning. I think they will do very well this year, and it will come down to them and hill murray in sections...WBL. IS THIS THE YEAR???

They should be just as good, if not better, than last year. They have a lot of people returning and a few up and coming young stars to look at.

Who are some of the underclassmen who might step up for the Bears this year?

Jake Hansen who I believe is going to be a first or second line forward. Then there is Josh Hauswirth, Sean Galloway, and Taylor Johnson. They should all do something.

How about Tom Kleidon? I thought he was sometimes the best player on the ice last year at times. Is he poised for a big year and do you think he is D-1 material?

I heard White Bear scrimmaged Anoka yesterday and won 4-1, but I heard Anoka missed on many good chances including a penalty shot. Anyone know how Anoka will be this year, and or if they are a contender?

That scrimmage with Anoka could just mean nothing. Anoka might have been playing to win while White Bear was playing to figure out right line combinations. Either way, Anoka should be a lil' better this year. If I am correct.

i went to the scrimmage against mahto, and wbl looked great against them considering it was their first scrimmage. I would imagine that the 2nd scrimmage they looked even better. We have 8 days left until it really counts. Next sat vs rochester century 8pm at aldrich.
The curse lives on.....

it's not a curse,... it's "coaching" or lack of it. how many times does the 4th line see the ice? if they are good enough to wear the the uniform, they should be good enough to play.
how many players have have left the program or gone to other schools because of the bears "coaching"?

That 4th line crap, i bet 2 or 3 teams out of 10 play 4 lines for an entire game. WBL's fourth line isnt all that bad, and you cant tell me what every player in the state of MN plays, everyone see's the bench. By the way why do you hate WBL so much. anyonebutwbl, to be honest wbl has never really accomplished much, they usually do have a great regular season though.
The curse lives on.....

ok there have been 3 kids that left wbl and they all went to hill. Mike Scott left because he wouldnt have played because Faust is better. Mac Garceau, I dont know why he left but has been at hill since he was a freshman. Nick Kohler left because he wouldnt have made the team and has been there since freshman year. So people have left white bear, but not because of sager. You can not blame the coach for this curse because he has coached the team throughout the year with a great record. That means the coach has done a great job, but what it comes down to is the players. Sager really does not have much control in the game, it all rides on the players. Out of all of the reasons to blame the curse on, I cant believe you chose the curse as your target, please shut up. What the hell is with all of the WBL hatred anyways?
The curse lives on.....

alright, I will look at it that way instead of getting mad about it. Sager is a great coach, and you are probably a WBL reject or something and are jealous that WBL is good, even though we have had a rocky season this year.
The curse lives on.....

the curse is more or less of a joke. But 17 trips to state, and not one first round win...... I only got mad because I dont think you can blame the coach for this situation. But I also dont care if you or anyone for that matter hates WBL or thinks they are bad, because there are a lot of people out there that do like them, and they will still have a succesful season even though they already have two losses.
The curse lives on.....

Alright.........Lets settle the matter of the coaching for the reason that players have left white bear.

Coach Sager is in his fourth year as head coach at white bear. Here is a list of what Coach Sager has been able to put together his first three years.

1) 2 State Tournament Apparences in 3 Years, Most Coaches Never even go there first 5 years with a program and Coach Sager has gone twice.

2) A total of 71 Wins 20 somthing losses and only a few ties. Now thats impressive for three years of coaching. Dont care who you are.

3) Been able to send at least one Player to the WCHA every year.

Coach Sager knows his stuff, knows what he's doing and knows what it takes to win. When he first came in he made some changes and the players had to adapt to it. Coach Sager for as far as Im concerned wants to stay in White Bear Lake. White Bear Lake hasn't had a coach that has stayed with the program for more that five years in the past twenty years. I believe that Coach Sager is just the man to put together a series of state tournament runs and a much bigger list of accomplishments.

BEST OF LUCK TO THE BEARS!!!!

Ah... BEARS06

White Bear Lake is one of the most hated teams in high school hockey for the sole reason of everyone wants to beat white bear. Every year no matter what has been done in past years......there is a HUGE target on that bear logo. Don't get me wrong people still pull for them but the opponents hate white bear....(Soon the "Curse will be gone")

I for one like the way the Bears play under Sager. They take care of their own end first. Play physical and forcheck hard. They Bears also play a tough schedule year in and year out and out and develope their own talent. Pretty good program if you ask me.

The WBL high school teams are always good because of WBL youth programs....they are always ranked in the top 10...so the kids that go on to play High School hockey have all played together and know how to win, even at a young age. Its a direct corelation...example: Forest Lake youth hockey-a joke overall.....WBL youth hockey- always ranked in the top ten....FL High School hockey-still a joke......WBL Varsity-always a state tournament contender...

i think the curse is incorporated into the mental psyche of each and every wbl hockey player. curses dont exist, but the pressure of being the first to advance in the state tourny may cause players to misplay. the mind is a very powerful thing. in order to beat the curse, wbl players must TRULY convince themselves that it doesnt exist.
