no doubt zach is one of the best goalies in the state, but hartzell should get some time in the nets. keep the kid active and make him feel he is a part of the team because HE IS!

All goalies do have a chip on their shoulders, but it's a fine line they all walk. Anytime a goaltender comes up with his own little celebration for his team's goals, that's crossing the line. I have nothing wrong with jumping up and down in excitment and all that good stuff, but what Faust does is as stupid as the kid who thros his glove in the air and acts like he's shooting it down.

I will always take a goalie with a chip on his shoulder on my team. I want them to have a chip, but as I said, there is a fine line and I'll let that goaltender know when he crosses it.

In my mind Faust is so far over the line he can't find it.

BR goalie who the hell are you to determine if they have crossed that line? When WBL scores all he does is drink his water and skate to the boards and back.
Quote:
but what Faust does is as stupid as the kid who thros his glove in the air and acts like he's shooting it down.

Whats is the reason that you hate Faust so much? Faust, Beggs, goalies

Post by One Smooth Operator » Thu Dec 08, 2005 3:34 pm

Need to be positive about these kids.

Faust is obviously a very good goalie. He played well on his Elite team and has done well against some tough teams in the regular HS hockey season.

Matt Beggs is a very good goalie too. He was definitely helped in Eilte this past fall with the defensemen and forwards he had with him. They were great players and helped the SE team have great numbers including GAA and saves (preventing scoring chances as much as possible).

The message is you can't do it alone. Stats reflect what the team can do in total but also reflect the skill of the goalie.

I have to slightly disagree. The stats do reflect what a team can do, but when you get to GAA's this is where the stats get skewed. Goalies playing for defensively strong teams are going to have better GAA's than those playing for defensively weaker teams, even if their save % is the same. You simply can't measure a netminder's "greatness" by GAA alone....and so many wish to stand in judgment of goalies under that very stat....makes no sense to me if you think everything through.

Faust better then Richards come on, he is playing D-1 hockey now without juniors give me a break. Faust will not do that. He is a good high school goalie. For some reason lets in some stinkers.

For the faust bashers out there i will tell you that this team will go as far as he can take them. Sure they have Grun, Hanson, Kleidon, but this team will go go as far as zach takes them. At peewees they road him all the way to the state tourney. At bantams he was a hell of a goalie with some great help in front of him.

Faust has always been the kind of goalie that makes the saves that he shouldnt make, and once in a while let in a softy. It has always been his "knock." The kid is easily a top 5 goalie in the state! If you think he is overrated your kidding yourself! If you believe Fox Sports was overhyping him, you may be right, that is there job, to create interest and get people to watch there program.

As for Hartzell Vs. Faust Comparison, you are kidding yourself if you think Eric is better then Zach. Eric is a solid goaltender. But, if you think faust makes poor decisions, you dont want eric in net. He does things that make you sit back and say to yourself what is he doing??

why would white bear be saving faust for duluth east when you have a cloquet team who has been picked to win that section and will probably be tougher than the hounds .... you keep mentioning that? why dont you give hartzell some credit for earning a start

hey there wblbears06...no need to call a kid who leaves White Bear a reject. You are a die-hard Faust backer...no denying that. But will you do us all a favor and agree that he is cocky, does give up big rebounds, and makes some extremely bone-headed plays???? Cmon kid, take the orange and black blinders off and realize that because of his "antics" he has lost some big games...remember last year at State, against Duluth East?? WOW, you can blame Faust for that loss. The "curse lives on" becasue of the little things that prevents the Bears from becoming a championship team....one might be Fausts actions in the net....

ok hill alum for the record mike scott is a white bear reject. He left WBL because faust was better than he was, and mike thought he would stand a better chance to play for hill. he didnt even make hills team which makes him a wbl reject, sorry facts are facts. As for Faust being cocky, i agreed to that, every goalie is cocky it comes with playing that position. Is faust more cocky than other goalies, possibly. But Flip does the same routine anytime hill scores, so to call faust cocky would be making fun of your own goalie.Until I see him give up a big rebounds which he lets in, im not going to make any accusations. I wouldnt call his plays boneheaded, I would call them gutsy. If anyone remembers Jon Anderson from a few years you know what im talking about, he was all over the place just like faust is, i think it makes the game more exciting and gut wrenching to watch at the same time. And, no I will not blame Faust for losing the Duluth East game because he didnt let in any crap goals, DE earned their 3 goals. Fausts "antics" have never cost WBL a game, they have just made the games closer than they should have been. Now you are going to say that he cost wbl the game against HM which he didnt. You cant blame the game on the goalie if your team loses 1-0 no matter how bad the goal was, in that case you blame the offense for not putting the puck in the net. Faust will also never hold wbl back from winning bigger and better things.
The curse lives on.....

WBL Bears

Post by Hill Alum » Fri Dec 09, 2005 4:16 am

First of all, the whole Mike Scott thing is questionable, because I don't know why he got cut...I can give you a guarantee that the reason that he left WBL was not because of Faust...that is a fact! As for Faust "making the game more interesting." what is your logic behind that one??? By playing "gutzy" do you mean shooting a puck off of a defender so it goes into your own net? or trying to over exagerate a glove save and then lose it in your own net?(not entirely talking about the HM goal)...sounds idiotic to me....I never played goalie, but why wouldn't you want to make the "for-sure" save? Why would you even want to risk costing your team a goal or the game? Hey if he wants to play "gutzy" this year i have noo problems with that....better chance for Hill to make it to state....

stop the antics

Post by bigasahouse » Fri Dec 09, 2005 9:37 am

I have seen zach play six games in his career. Good goalie, seems athletic, good hands and decent feet, but I have rarely seen him control a rebound with those 96 inch pads and his antics are so overboard that it affects his game. He seems so worried about getting himself on TV, that he forgets about the task at hand. I can't wait until he figures it out because he could be pretty good. I know it is a maturity deal but this is his third year at the varsity level, everyone knows who you are and unfortunately what you look like, just stop the puck.

Faust

Post by easty905 » Fri Dec 09, 2005 12:26 pm

You guys can sit here and bash Faust all you want, but sit down with the kid sometime and talk hockey or anything. He is the most level headed kid I know outside the rink. Ive seen alot of guys think there the big man on campus. For Faust to play well he pumps himself up and by doing that it brings his confidence level up. When Faust was on his game his confidence level was WAY up there. He would come to me after the first period and tell me that he was "ON" and for the rest of the night he would carry the team. He is one of the greatest people that I know that would always put his team and winning infront of getting himself on TV and making himself look good.

don't know the kid but actions still speak louder than words. play hard and have fun, play to win, put your game face on, zone in, whatever but for godsakes do it with some class.

Faust is a good goalie, but not a great one yet for the reasons mentioned, the fat rebounds and weak goals in big situations. easty's point that Faust is levelheaded off the ice is interesting because my impression has been that he sometimes gets too worked up for his own good. I think he could eliminate some of the lapses if he brought the levelheadedness to the ice.

Personally, I'd like to see him succeed, the mental part of the game can be the toughest part to overcome but it's always nice to see someone who's made some mistakes figure it out and turn the corner.

Easty had the good point that off the ice Faust may be a good kid. I'll take his word as I've never talked to him, only watched him play. Actions do speak louder than words, but we all know players who are "different" people on the ice. I played with a kids that looked like he'd kill people on the ice, but off the ice he wouldn't hurt a spider becasue he didn't have a mean bone in his body.

I've said some things about Faust, but we have to realize he's still only a high school kid and has plenty of time to mature and grow up. It's expected that he and every other high school player we mention on this site have some growing up to do, no matter how mature they are at the moment.

Yes he was at their tryout he was graded in the top three goalies there he had a heck of a tryout... he is a good goalie... and to confirm your guys' question i do believe that Eric has a pond in his backyard it is quite large actually complete with new and improved snowbanks to keep the play going... also there will be more obstruction penaltys called this year making it a more fast paced high scoring game...
