They say Krause is responding well to treatment, so it sounds like he will be OK, but he did lose consciousness. Spuds score to make it 2-1, goal by Dietz.

Spuds dominating but kill themselves with penalties again. East scores on a power play to make it 2-2.

Geez...Spuds are worthless at killing penalties...another pp goal for East to make it 4-2 East. Nine seconds later Spuds score to make it 4-3. This is for sure not last year's Spuds team. I think the Spuds penalty kill is about 60% now, pretty pathetic.

Final, 4-3 East wins. Spuds outshoot them by a large margin but ran into a hot goaltender and couldn't kill a penalty with a howitzer. Congrats to East on the win. Wonder how the Spuds would be with Beau Christian in the nets?

Game Over

Post by Mnhockeygod »

4-3 Duluth East. Moorhead couldn't even get there goalie pulled. Moorhead out shot them badly, but they couldn't kill power plays. They are going to have to work on that, and they need one of there goalies to step up. The seasons early still and they are a young team I'm sure they will only get better.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeygod at: 12/17/05 4:32 pm

Nice job by the Hounds in this win. I believe Moorhead led the shots 40-19 but that doesn't matter if you can't put 'em
home. There were a lot of big hits in this game, and East showed their heart with this one. Josh Turnbull put the hit on Krause in the first period. Krause was moving his feet and hands, but they took him to the hosptial to get checked out to make sure there were no spinal cord injuries or brain damage. I hope that he is ok, great game from both teams though.

Way to go, Hounds! I wish I could have been there, but at least I'll get to tape it tonight while wifey and I are at tDECC watching tUMD (hopefully) wrestle a win from the Pioneers.

Glad to hear that Ben played well between the pipes today. The kid has serious potential.

btw, off-topic, if you live in the Duluth area, check out the Tejas Texas Grill & Saloon, just opened up a few weeks ago on Miller Trunk near Haines Road. I just had arguably the best pasta dish it's been my pleasure to gorge myself on (it's called Voodoo Chicken and has a bite to it). Damn....good stuff.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

FSN

Post by Mnhockeygod »

After watching this game on TV I feel better about the Spuds. They looked pretty good most of the game. They are going to have to play smarter and stay out of the penalty box if they can't kill them. It looks like they just ran into a hot goalie, and they got a few bad breaks. Christain looks really good, I'm suprised he didn't get more playing time last year. Also, I would be suprised if Duncan gets the call in net again anytime soon. Duluth East is also playing a lot of young players like Moorhead, so this should be a good match up for a while to come.

Yeah, watching that game on FSN it seemed like most of the best players on the ice were sophomores. Not being a Moorhead or East fan, its a little scary to think of how good these two teams could be in the years to come.

If the Spuds could have just had ANY form of a penalty kill!!!

All in all a great showing this weekend by a young team that is growing leaps and bounds every game. At the beginning of the year, I was not very confident in the Spuds. Seeing them play three games now (missed the first two of the year) against high ranked opponents (Roseau, GR, Duluth East), I can't wait to see them play in March (before you Rams Fans start thinking I am guaranteeing a spot at state, remember that section finals are in the beginning of March!)

what did i tell you all before the roseau game...."if the spuds want to stay undefeated much longer they need to stick with Kunde in net" they had kunde in net for the roseau game and the Grand Rapids game, but then put duncan in for the DE game...they are no longer undefeated.

It also has to be remembered that Moorhead was worn out by two tough games earlier this week. Morhead looked out of gas all night, it's bound to happen without rest...

The spuds didn't run into just a hot goalie...Ben Leis has
proven himself over and over through the years...Won state
as a pee wee and took second to these spuds at the bantam
level...great game by the hounds and by the young group
of sophomores

Ben Leis

Post by Mnhockeygod »

I wasn't trying to take anything away from Ben Leis I'm sure he is a good player, and I'm sure anyone from Moorhead would love to have him on our team. If I remember right East had a good goalie last year as well. I think he had around 45 saves against Moorhead at state. Also, no one is denying they lost, we're just commenting on a game that if you watched on TV just got over a couple hours ago.

Spuds/Hounds

Post by CitiesSpudsGuy »

Congrats to the Hounds on a nice win. The story of the game was obviously East's power play and Moorhead's inability to kill off shorthanded situations. Don't blame Duncan for 2 of those power play goals. Duncan was hung out to dry on them and had no chance when his teammates either didn't cover the backside or they got caught flatfooted. Nice passing by the Hounds on the power plays though. They looked sharp and the Spuds looked slow on the penalty kills.

Solanum, I don't know alot about DE or Moorhead this year, but I did watch the game on FSN last night. You cannot blame this loss soley on Moorhead's goaltender. The first goal in was a miscommunication by the two defensemen in front of the net, two more were PP goals (and we all saw what Moorhead's PK looked like last night) and I didn't see the final goal, so I can't comment. I will agree that Moorhead's goalie did look shaky at times, but Moorhead's team has alot to learn yet in front of their goal. I thought the team as a whole played better against DE than they did against GR, despite the fact that their captain had been taken away in an ambulance.

From what I saw of DE last night, they struggle getting it out of their zone, but Leis was there for them. He had a few shaky moments too, but anyone concentrating on finding fault with the Moorhead goalie likely didn't notice them.
I liked the perseverance of East last night......it will take them a good distance.

It was a good game, all in all they just couldnt pull it off. Hats off the Duluth East. I think it is great that these teams play such a tough schedule.

_________________
www.fmhockeytalk.com
