Elk River #1 team in state when Paul Martin was a senior who did they lose to? Was it first or second round?

It was pretty big when Spring Lake Park beat St Louis Park a couple years back. St Louis Park had a very solid team that year and was just looking past Spring Lake Park. Section 5 always has some surprises come late February
there'd be no hockey if the water wasn't FROZEN

minnhock is correct.

Post by Minolta » Mon Dec 19, 2005 3:13 am

I agree with minnhock, eastview beating jefferson in 2001 when i was a freshman, i couldnt believe it when it happend, I believe Jefferson was #1 in the state at the time too. I beleieve that was the year when eastview went to state for the first time. Wasn't that also the year they had a story on how two brothers, one played for eastview and one from apple valley who played eachother in the section finals. anyone else remember that?

Ya that game between Elk River and Osseo was a pretty big shock, weren't the Elks up 3-0 or something like that going into the third? That was a pretty big upset. Didn't osseo end up losing in the section finals?

Eastview beat Jefferson in the semi-finals, not the first round. That year also Apple Valley beat AHA in the other semi-finals. AHA had a tough game, Rob Rankin was mugged most of the game and nothing was called, Connor Phippen scored on his own goalie and both teams had goals that were goals waved off. Wierd game... AHA and Jefferson were like the number 1 and 3 team at the time.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Richfield beat breck when Breck had Peter Mueller (8th grader). Breck out shot them about 60 - 10. Richfield goalie was amazing.

In the Guyer/Sertich days Greenway was shocked in OT in Coleraine by Forest Lake. That was my senior year at GRHS, so 1998-1999 season.

The Brian Bonin led WBL team from 91/92 was beat in the first round by Mound (if memory serves), and they were ranked top three most of the season. They let Bonin be a color side-line guy during the state tourney that year.

Majin

Big upsets in the past seven years

Post by east hockey » Mon Dec 19, 2005 9:20 pm

In recent years (since 1999), the following are games where a #1 or #2 seed lost their first game.

1. 1999; in 6AA, #8 Chaska beat #1 Wayzata
2. 1999; in 8AA, #7 St Cloud Tech beat #2 Moorhead
3. 1999; in 7A, #4S Duluth Central beat #1N Eveleth
4. 2000; in 5AA, #7 Eastview beat #2 Apple Valley
5. 2000; in 8AA, #7 St Cloud Tech beat #2 Apollo
6. 2001; in 7A, #5S Duluth Denfeld beat #1N Intl Falls
7. 2002; in 2A, #7 Pine City beat #2 Duluth Denfeld
8. 2004; in 5A, #7 Spring Lake Park beat #2 St Louis Park

In my opinion, the 1999 game where Duluth Central upended Eveleth was the biggest upset. In 2006, in 7AA, #7 Cambride-Isanti defeated #2 Elk River as Goldsmith made 140 saves through 13 OT's...oh, wait, I forgot this is a thread about the past not the future.

North St. Paul over Mariner 3-2 in the 1983 section 3 quarterfinals has to be one of the biggest first round upsets.

North was the number seven seed with Mariner number two.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... md>wbmd at: 12/24/05 12:26 am

1997 Brooklyn Center upset Simley who was #1 and I think BC was like a 7 seed in section 3A. BC won in if i can remember, 2 OT and Ben Sundeen had over 60 saves for BC. BC then made it to the section final vs. Mahtomedi...that was a good game too

In 1995 in 2A Chisago Lakes Were either #8 or #7 seed beat an amazing Proctor squad then went on to beat Mora and Princeton to go to State. Both Mora and Princeton swept them in Confrence play that year. Princeton was up 3-0 going into the Third period of the Section Final and CL pulled out the unbelievable comeback winning 5-3. That team was the defination of Cinderalla.
