HM should win but they also should have won in the playoffs last year. But I think because of that lose HM will come out with something to prove and win this hockey game.

Game in Review

Post by Sparlimb »

North St. Paul came out and played a very good first period. They had as many shots as Hill and they buried their chances. #7 for North must be the guy you've all been talking about, because he had 2 of the 3 goals and was easily North's best player. #2 for North played his usually 40 minutes in the game. But when Hill decided to take over they did with a vengeance. They dominated the 2nd period completely and most of the third. NSP was up 3-1 after one, and Hill scored three unanswered in the second to go up 4-3. They buried one on a bang bang play on the faceoff midway through the third to ice the game. Hill took a penalty with 2:30 to play and NSP was unable to gain the Hill zone during the penalty long enough to pull their goalie who never did get out of the net. So while one might say Hill needs to quit taking periods off, after watching this I'd say opponents need to play 3 full periods if they want to beat Hill. Best Hill team I've seen in 8 years.

what i know is why is that #7 ben arnt not on the roster for NSP? they had a different kid listed as #7...anyone know anything about that? but the game in a whole was decent, hill could have played much better and NSP had there chances to come back after they got down 4-3.

I thought that Hill could have easily won my 5-6 goals. They had a lot of quality chances, way more than NSP. The polars goalie played well. After a rocky first period, O'brien settled down and played better, he didnt have to make too many other saves though, Hill dominated the play...good solid win...

the game

Post by CllgeHockey »

hmmmmm.... hill fans .. no offense but you have the same posts before and after every game... before the game you say hill will dominate and win by five goals easily ... than after the game when they dont blow a team out you say they could've had many more goals.... the difference is could've scoring those goals is not scoring those goals ..they have trouble puttin the puck in the net... . and for hill to be a #2 team in the state .. they didnt show that against st thomas or north st paul ... you shouldnt have to fight back and beat st thomas or north st paul ... you should be beating them from the get go if you're a number 2 team in the state .. all this game showed tonight is that hill still has problems in goal ... ben arnt for NSP is the best player in the conference as a sophomore .... Section 3AA isnt going to be a walk thru for white bear and hill ..... remember last year? .. everyone already looking forward to a white bear hill game .. oh but wait hill doesnt make it outta the first round... and what all you hill fans say is that was a fluke that shoulda never happened ... even last year hill didnt have the best players on the ice in that section game... CJ Willms, matt french .. and ben arnt as a freshman for NSP ... those three in that order lead the conference all year in scoring... im not trying to rip anybody or anything but show some love to underdog teams ... hill is not dominate enough to have a walk in the park in their conference or sections... remember every team is gunning for them .. The CSC isnt all hills yet ... i mean theres not much of a chance a different team will take the thrown but on good days teams like St thomas and NSP can beat hill .. NSP beat st thomas... im not sure if hills played tartan yet but for the past few years tartans had hills number.... hill is obviously the favorite because they have such depth.. but they're not so unbeatable

CllgeHockey - They've been unbeatable so far.....
I agree they do need to learn to play three periods of hockey. One of these times they are not going to be able to come back. Arnt played a very good first period but Hill did a great job of taking him and his line out of the game the rest of the way. They thoroughly dominated the second and third periods. On a number of NSP power plays, Hill had the better scoring chances. If they could play a full game that way nobody wiill touch them. Playing partial games has been a Hill hockey trait for decades though.
A comment made by my 6 year old son during the second period, " Daddy, why won't the green guys let the red guys have the puck too?"

BTW, Hill beat Tartan 4-2 last week.

Ive only seen HM play once this year. I agree with sparlimb that they are the best HM team Ive seen in a while.

That opinion is not just mine and sparlimb's. As a result, the teams you play are going to be fired up to play you and may look like they can win for awhile. But being fired up is one thing and being good enough to win is quite another as has been shown.

HM is good enough to beat anybody and everybody they play all year. The manner in which they do it is unimportant.

Ben Arnt

Post by bob »

Ben Arnt is #7 for NSP. The program last night had someone else listed & left him off by mistake. He is a very talented player. HM paid more attention to him in the 2nd & 3rd periods last night. He had far fewer chances and was not allowed to skate in alone. He was on the ice every other shift, and almost every minute of power play or penalty kill. #12 Borndale too. They appeared to get tired as the game went on.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... nhs>bob at: 12/23/05 11:25 am

Both players are very good & both would look great wearing a Hill jersey next year (early xmas wish for next year). Imagine those two along with Hoeffel & Larson...

arnt

Post by CllgeHockey »

just to make this water under the bridge.. im not a player for neither team ... furne is a good player and will get better as he gets older but arnt is in a different class than furne .... and like tenders said ... just look at the numbers.. and not to damper your wishes nolook but i wouldnt see either transfering to hill murray ... NSP and tartan kids both hate hill murray .. and obrien was 1 and a hundred ... furne will stay right where he is most likely and arnt is unknown but rumor has it he will be leaving for michigan

You all make good points, but Arnt is without a doubt better than furne and probably the best sophomore in the state. Whether or not he remains at NSP after this season is still up for grabs, but hopefully he doesn't get sold out to hill. and why is it always a fluke when a team gets close to beating hill?! cllgehockey is the only one in here that actually talks sense. anyone every think about the other team? maybe North has a pretty decent squad this year, and sections last year was def. not a fluke. North had an off 2nd period but they have some guys that can put the puck away on some very weak goaltending. Horner of the polars keeps them in every game. look at the first period: 10 shots each, obrien let in three. the only reason why hill goalies seem so good is because they never get tested. thats why hill won't win the big games when they count, and why they lost in the sections last year, horner stood on his head.

I was at the game too and saw a very fired up NSP team really take it to Hill in the first period, before the Pioneers put on the clamps in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Hill's backup goalie was very shaky and didn't look very confident, while NSP's sophomore goalie was exceptional and kept them in the game. This might have been more of a blowout if Philippi had been in goal for Hill.

One reason that Hill may have trouble early in games is because the other teams are fired up to play them. Someone did mention this but it was clear in this game that the Polars were amped up at the start. For some reason the teams entered the ice at the same time before the start of the game and there were some pushes and shoves as the players tried to get around each other, fortunately things didn't go beyond that. By the third period though Hill had completely stifled NSP whose breakout had been reduced to no.7 trying to carry the puck through and around Hill's team.

Chris,

I was there too, so I wish I'd of known you were going. Although you probably sat on the NSP side. The goalie was a transfer from NSP, so I thought maybe he was a bit nervous. He did seem to settle down as the game went on, but the tea did also which made a huge difference. What impressed me was when Hill decided they were going to take over and win, they did. And there wasn't anything NSP was going to do about it. NSP is a good team and could upset anyone, but they aren't on the same level as this Hill team.

Sorry Sparlimb, it was kind of a last minute decision after I had finished my Christmas shopping. I had planned on trying to go to Braemar to catch Grand Rapids again but between traffic and shopping it didn't work out. Since Hill isn't part of the Gold division in the Schwann's Cup this year, I thought it would be a good chance to see them again and from where I live getting to Aldrich at 8:00 is a lot easier than driving to Braemer at 6:00.

Hill did not get rattled even though they got behind against a big rival and their goalie was not having a good game. With their goaltending NSP is a tough team, but Hill just kept plugging away until they went ahead and rattled NSP with their forecheck so the Polars were just throwing the puck down the ice.
