Where do you think some of the elite teams will be further down the line? such as moorehead, centennial, holy angels..... <p></p><i></i>

i go to centennial and have friends in the system but i see Centennial being a huge powerhouse, they have a few kids coming up in the ranks, including the final of the Flynn brothers(Greg one of the other ones play for Air Force and Ryan the other brother plays for the U.S. U-18 team in Ann Arbor), can't wait to see what this one has in store. <p></p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... dberg45</A> at: 12/28/05 2:14 am<br></i>

Looking at the LPH rankings for Bantam and Peewee A, I'm seeing a lot of WBL, Edina, Duluth East, Blaine, and Roseau. We can throw in Centennial as well <p></p><i></i>

THere's really no mystery here. Look at the size of the amateur programs - numbers wise, and you'll get a gooidea of where the top programs are going to be. Centenial is good now not because Centennial is "special", they just choose from many many more kids. <p></p><i></i>

Theres a lot of truth to that puckjazz, but most associations (including Centennial) only develope about 30 kids. The rest are lower b/c level players that get dads for coaches and play for fun. <p></p><i></i>

Right, what I mean of course is that from the 500 kids in the program eventually 30 come out. The chances of those 30 being better than a community where they have 100 kids is - duh - 5 to 1.<br><br>That said, there is more to it than that. Obviously many programs have great amateur programs that really do a lot for to encourage kids to play, recruit good coaches, etc. That's the other side of the story that doesn't get much play. <p></p><i></i>

I think that Moorhead and Duluth East will always be considered power houses. They have both had great teams and players for the last 20 years and it looks to stay that way. <p></p><i></i>

In reference to the Edina youth program. Edina will not be able to get back to its peak again. They can't keep anybody there. Just look at Finley, Hagemo, Milo, etc. None of those guys wanted to stay and play. Had all the players stayed from their Pee Wee A state title team they would have walked through state untouched in 2005! If you can't keep the big dogs you can't win. Your 3rd, 4th, and 5th lines can't win the big games for you. I give Edina no hope unless they are able to keep their kids from leaving. <p></p><i></i>

Next year Moorhead will dominate section 8AA, and will probably be the best team in the state...but will probably have to settle for a 2nd place trophy at state if the trend from years past continues. But, after next year, the future looks dim for Moorhead. Their bantam and peewee teams are good as always, but Roseaus are better. A lot can change in 2, 3, or 4 years, but from the looks of it, Roseau is going to take over section 8AA. <p></p><i></i>

7AA will always have a Duluth or Duluth area team in the hunt. Look for a run from Grand Rapids within the next few years and Brainerd might sneek one in, in the next three.<br>8AA is set up for Moorhead but Roseau has a good chance of causing them to hick up maybe the next year or so. Roseau is like Grand Rapids as far as a good Soph class coming in.<br><br>You can say all you want about numbers and numbers are good, don't get me wrong, but you take programs like Warroad, Roseau and you can toss in Grand Rapids and no matter what, they'll give you a game. If a person would look at the percent of players going on after high school, you might find that the smaller Northern programs would lead. For example, Cloquet, three nhlers with two winning the cup, Roseau, one line in the nhl at the same time. How many metals are hanging in Warroad. You can say the same for the Range. Edina and Jefferson have a hold of the other end of this argument. How big was SSP when Housley went from the Civic Center to Buffalo.<br>The problem or convience of open enrollment is not as much as a problem in outstate as it is in the metro. It maybe only a matter of time before youth programs will become what the high school is, when that happens, grass root or community based programs will only be a memory. The beginning on the end. <p></p><i></i>

SSP was huge when Housley was there. It goes in waves a community gets old and has a lull until things get going again. Look at Lakeville, EP, they are the Jeffersons of old. Look at the downfall of the St Paul city schools. Woodbury will be a force in a few years. <br><br>Feeder program numbers has a lot to do with it. The Northern teams benefit from the same group of kids sticking together. metro teams lose out do to private schools and open enrollment. <p></p><i></i>

I would think that would be the biggest hurdle to overcome for a young program in the metro area. The temptation would be there to go out and buy a team to create excitment and the want to be a part of something good, then work on building your feeder system. But then as mentioned before, is your Youth Program a feeder system to your High School. If it is, how do you keep your investments at home?<br> You got to hand it to HM for how long they have been able to keep competitive with the changes in coaches over the years. It might be interesting to follow AHA after their builder leaves. <br>How do the other sports fare in open enrollment? <p></p><i></i>
