Xcel ice sheet

Post by mnhshockey89 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 6:26 pm

Since the goalline and blueline are moved for the new NHL rules are does anyone know if they are going to change it for the state tournament? I noticed it was not changed for the schwann cup this week and I could see it maybe being a slight advantage for some teams. I think they need to change it back but anyone with information please let me know.

It can't be done because the Wild play on Tuesday the 7th at the Xcel and then Sunday the 12th at home as well so there would be no time to change it.

Each year they change the paint under the ice for the tourney. I assume they will also change the goal line and blue line.

I guess that's a good point PuckU126 they do change the advertising in the center of the ice but is there really enough time to go back and change the blue lines and goal lines back to it's old spot?

No time to change a couple bluelines? I bet the Xcel staff could do it back and forth 10 times before 3:00 AM. They're used to doing a lot more than changing bluelines over night.

The Wild are too cheap to spend that money to change the blue lines. It'll stay the same

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... hockey6 at: 12/30/05 6:46 pm

Nobody is going to have the answer to this so it looks like we'll have to wait till March 8th to really find out.

You have a good point GR19, these are trained blue line movers.

But I serioulsly think they can have this one down. They know what their doing.

Well to work in a professional rink you have to be able to do the unexpected, so I'm sure they'll get it done, but who knows because I don't work in a pro rink:-p

I would think that if the State High School League requires the changes, they will be done.

moving the wild logo is alot easier then the red line and blue line, the ice and logos are made in layers and the top has the logo, does anyone know how the lines were for the US girls game friday night? im not 100% sure but i believe it takes 2 days to make a sheet of ice at excel and the wild play at home tonight.

Just my 2 cents

they don't need to take the whole sheet of ice out, they just cut out what needs to be replaced. also ,I think Neagle is owner of the Wild and Excel, he may have partners in both ventures or not....

blue lines

Post by hockeydad » Sat Dec 31, 2005 1:32 pm

Naegele owns the Wild and is head of the company that operates the Xcel. He does not own the Xcel, the city does, but they gave him a sweetheart lease deal. All this talk about moving the bluelines is crazy.... A few coats of white paint will take out the old ones, and a coat or two of blue paint will put in new ones. It's not as hard as some are making it sound.

Not a Big Deal

Post by BSU Beavers » Sat Dec 31, 2005 2:22 pm

I don't see the lines being a big deal. The center red line is still at center ice and you still have to be aware of where the blue line is. They are the same for both teams, so I can't see them repainting it.

My concern is if they do repaint, will the ice in the repainted areas have sufficient time to have a quality set up. The Wild will get done around 10 pm on Tuesday and the Class A Quarters start at Noon on Wednesday. Then the Class AA Final will get done around 10 pm on Saturday with the Wild playing on Sunday. By the time the cutting out and painting is done, will less than 12 hours enough time to get a quality set up? I realize that ice can be frozen that fast, but at what quality?

USA Today had a great time line graphic on Wednesday concering the Georgia Dome this week. They had to convert the Pro FB Field markings over to college for the Peach Bowl on Thursday. They then had to convert back over to pro for the Falcons on Sunday and then back to college for the Sugar Bowl on Monday.

Why should the lines be changed? What's the difference between playing on pro lines or playing on an olympic sheet other than rink size? The 5 & 6 AA sections finals are played at Mariucci and the teams figure out the big ice. Figure out how to adapt!

No Doubts

Little bit different than Olympic ice compared to standard ice. My guess is that they will no doubt have the blue lines changed and that the ice will be awesome. The Xcel staff is great at what they do and there is a reason the Xcel is one of the best out there.

Elk River AA State Champions- 2001 Boys & 2004 Girls
