Which arena is the wrigley field of HS hockey?

Post by gr19 » Thu Dec 08, 2005 12:22 pm

I would have to say the Hibbing Memorial Building. The place was built in 1929 if my memory serves me right. It's just an awesome building to walk up to during the playoffs. I love the atmosphere in there. To me, HMB is the wrigley field of Minnesota HS hockey.

Sad to say, I've never been to the hippodrome.

Rosea Memorial

Post by HShockeyFan4life » Thu Dec 08, 2005 2:35 pm

Roseau Memorial Rink

Hands down , it may not have been built in 1929, but the tradition and state championship trophies are absoultely mind boggling. That place just makes the hair on my arm stand up thinking about it, if anyone in the state of hockey should see a historic landmark, they should make the trek up to Roseau

The Roseau Memorial for sure, got to get the trophy mess cleaned up though finding those plaques from the 20's & 30's in that shape was great. They give a full dose in your toddies across the street too!

The Hippodrome would be hard to top. There is just an aura about that building that is unexplainable.

I will say that I loved playing in roseau, great place, but because of the heritage in Eveleth, I give it to the Hippodrome......

I agree that roseau takes the crown in this field the memorial gives you an overwhelming feeling when you walk into it expecialy downstairs where the locker rooms are, just look at the walls of their varsity locker and you will know what i'm talking about.

The Hip might have the tradition and old school feel; but man I'm willing to bet it hasn't had any imporvements since it was built. I personally think the place is kind of dumpy...just my opinion. I've played there, and coached in that building....personally I can't stand it. Hotter then heck when I was a player; and just a dark, dingy feeling.
www.rebelhockey.com

What does playing there have to do with anything???

Perhaps you should re-read the title of this thread! It didn't ask what is your favorite arena to play in?!

Or, perhaps your just not familiar with the whole "Wrigley Field aura". Wrigley Field is centainly no pristine palace by any means, and if it didn't have the history behind it, it would be considered a dump!
